A security company has suspended an employee who told two Muslim women that they could not pray in a Dublin park.
The incident happened at Griffith Park in Drumcondra.
Security company Manguard Plus, which enforces park by-laws on Dublin City Council's behalf, has apologised unreservedly.
Managing Director of Manguard Plus Bill Brown denied the women were told they needed a permit to pray, but said they were asked to move on.
He said he had a meeting this morning with the worker who approached two women.
Mr Brown said the worker came to him at around 9.30am and recounted what had happened.
It was then decided that the worker should be suspended pending further investigation.
Mr Brown said he had contacted the Irish Examiner newspaper this morning in order to try to get in contact with the women in question.
He said he wanted to listen to what they had to say and to ensure that they felt their views had been heard.

Would he feel safe praying in a Christian manner in a Muslim country?

We'r getting carried away with this human rights carry on. There's a man out of work now because of red tape and political correctness.

That's completely irrelevant to be perfectly blunt.

They are not harming anyone so i'd say let them pray all they like. In regards to the suspension of the employee in the security park firm, i think a suspension was over the top, a caution would have sufficed.

We shouldn't really aspire to the standards of some of the other countries you have in mind.

Isn't Ireland supposed to be a country who respects all religions and a supporter of multiculturalism etc?

if that's the case, then the Parkie should have been honest: no prying becuase you're Muslim and I'm a bigot. None of this "you might hurt your backs" crap.

If you're gonna go down the Human Rights denial road, then stick to this society and call a spade a spade.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

So seemingly the worker told them to stop praying in case they injured themselves and then would presumably sue the council.

Either horrific training by the private security firm, stupid arse covering policies by the council or a bit of good old fashioned bigotry from the worker concerned. Which one is to blame? Place your bets here.

Praying in parks one day; the next on footpaths.
Is there no church these women could go like the rest of us.

They should have been allowed to pray. I think suspending him was a bit OTT, but I'll reserve final judgement until I know exactly how he told them they can't pray there.

He was wrong, company has disciplined him appropriately and apologised to the people affected. Pretty well handled I think.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

The bigger picture with not allowing kids to play football is that while playing football you have many folks in the game and running all over the park after the ball and not much room for other walkers to move freely.

It's a hell of a lot different when a few folks are just sitting there praying minding their own business not obstructing anyone.

Oh they'll let themselves be known, you can be sure of that!

    "I'm an atheist"

    "Thanks but I didn't ask"

If people want to pray let them go to a place of worship, there's enough of them around.

Well Wacker did ask, and people were only answering his question - while also showing him how his seeming suspicion that anyone who is an atheist supports people being forbidden to pray... is incorrect.

The fashion of assuming any atheist at all is a smug, arrogant one is getting really boring now.

I'm an atheist, I think people should be allowed to pray, and I think comments like this are stupid.
