OKAY Mr. Pedantic, you just carry on there failing to see the logical point being put forward. You come across as the type of chap who would argue over rain drops rolling down a window.

I am not pedantic in the slightest and not argumentative either, perhaps defensive in some areas.

You see ArtyBoy I'm a regular contributor to the Emergency Services forum here, one of my aims is to help people with queries regarding recruitment, point them in the right direction for example, give tips on exam and interview preparation including the arranging of visits to stations and control rooms. Many people take these tips from myself and other contributors and they do well in all areas, job done really.

Then there's the minority of contributors whose aim is to slate and attack one of the state agencies or recruitment processes, I feel you belong to this group.
This group of people are usually ill prepared for entrance exams and/or interviews and when it doesn't go the way they want it to go they come onto forums like this one or shout from the barstool spouting that the recruitment process is a farce or irrelevant to the job title. They often feel that their point is the only logical point.

ArtBoy I do wish you well in the entrance exam process. But if I can offer you some advice it would be to advise you to research the role, perhaps arrange a visit to the control room then research some more for the interview. I would also aim to lose the negativity, it wouldn't sit well in front of the interview panel.
To borrow an old cliche 'Fail to Prepare, Prepare to Fail'.

I have to say BANG BANG is spot on regarding foreign nationals living here the people next door to me are from the Philippines across the road we have Indian& Hungarians up the road from there is people from Asia etc,Also the DFB have pocket guides that if called to an incident involving a foreign national they have pictures of country flags were by the patient can point out their country flag,So that the lads can go to a particular page with that person language and ask them the basic questions.

    Hardly pointless....your post however....

Totally pointless when you have no idea what you are talking about. You have no clue about the amount of pre-planning that goes into these things and DCC's HR department only really gets involved when it comes to the interview stage. They're facts, not opinions.

Oh, hit a nerve have I?
I have more than a clue as to how little goes into these campaigns, using foreign tests not relative to Irish environmental conditions is a classic example.

If you don't like people criticising your work for DCC HR department, either make more effort or change jobs.

Yes, but call takers don't have that and certainly it's not used during the relevant tests, so again, pointless argument.

Your criticism is mis-directed that's all. I don't know how the PAS decide their methods. The DFB have their own HR section which are involved in everything.

Well all I just hope is that the test is localised a bit. It would be bad form if it wasn't.

how many applicants are they taking to stage 2?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 344 ✭✭spygirl

Holy crap, she talks fast. Keep getting as far as the last window on the call center test and then I run out of time, still will give it a bash and see how it goes when the actual test comes up. If nothing else learned how to type since applying, vast improvement on my two fingers only antics of old lol. Just hope my beginner typing speed will be enough to scrape into next stage

You couldn't be more wrong with your assessment.
But then again, anyone who thinks they could come to a reasonable conclusion in regards to a persons suitability for the ES based on nothing more than a couple of posts on boards.ie is far too deluded for me to have any reasonable discussion with them.

You know nothing about me, at all.

The test is ridiculous and many people are complaining about it.
It should be based on the most common circumstances and without doubt in Ireland the most common circumstances would involve Irish place names and Irish surnames, anyone who tries to say any different is talking nonsense.

Oh, and just for the record, I am acing the pre test material with nearly 30 seconds to spare. Still, this doesn't mean the test is fit for purpose.

Done the assessments just now went OK I think. Had 5 minutes spare for the written reasoning but didnt get to the end of the audio test but think I was on the last screen and there were more fields to fill in too so not to fussed.

Sorry for all the questions :-).At least your writing something positive and not arguing over matters of oppinion like some others .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭djor88

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 217 ✭✭bono_v

Any idea on numbers who applied in the end?

Nightmare..Had the practice questions down to a tee and would get all 8 done with a little time to spare..
Then attempt the real thing and there was double the info needed per page and in a completely different format, and couldn’t understand any of the places or names, threw me completely off.
Only managed to get through 5/8, I’m assuming that’s me done already, anyone else the same?
I got through all 4 rounds in the CFB recruitment last year and won’t even get by the first here, disaster.

Yup, same as myself... I guess everyone would of found it tougher than the practice exams though so we might all be in the same boat!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭djor88

Yeah was defo tougher than the practice exams lads, i think i made around 5 screens or so too. Everyone will be finding it harder! No idea on when we'll hear back, hoping it won't be too long anyway.

quick question , did anybody go for complete accuracy or (guessing at places and names spelling and speed )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭djor88

I went for accuracy and speed but there was one or two placenames that I didn't bother re-listening to it or asking for spelling, didn't want to sacrafice the time! Yourself?

I had to re check one spelling and I was that caught up in it I cant remember what it was now , I went for accuracy and got 4 done , I knew from the practice that the spellings were not as they sounded . e.g driskell / church(space)meade(space)road
