It makes people who "condemned" him look a tad foolish imo. Ultimately, if your opinion is he should be condemned, so be it, but I think a more proper response would be to be frustrated and nervous, and as time goes on, those feelings should grow and possibly develop into the level you're at. But you've been angry and furious for weeks now, in a way that looks completely over the top for the situation we're actually in. There was no gestation period; you were screaming bloody murder from the day he came in...

Is it? With midfield sorted out, our next weakest area would be left back. Evra had a great season last year, and would be my first pick for this season too, BUT if he gets hurt, we're screwed; Buttner isn't good enough to be our first choice for any length of time, and Fabio obviously didn't inspire confidence in Fergie et al, given they sent him out on loan all last season.

We need cover for Evra. If Moyes gets Baines for less than 10m, given he's English and one of the best left backs in the country, then I'll be thrilled. He'll be brilliant cover and have time to settle (something you so strongly desire) before Evra moves on next summer or the one after.

And if we don't get him, then meh. Not a disaster. Just a luxury that, if available, I don't think we should turn down. Especially when I think some other names, like Shaw, would be twice as expensive and not half as proven.

You're away with the fairies if you think Baines would be happy to play second fiddle to Evra.

Ugh will this Summer just end, need to put out of our misery at this stage.

The most embarassing bit about it for me though is
    BBCSport wrote:
Former Toffees boss David Moyes offered £16m for Fellaini, whose £23.5m contract release clause expired at the end of July.
United had a £12m bid for left-back Baines knocked back in June but have come back with the same offer.

You have to seriously question the man (men) that bids £25 million for Cesc Fabregas and then bids the same amount twice for another player. Full article here

Just saw this on Sky Sports....

Eduardo Hernandez, the representative of Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez, has told El Universal that he has held talks with Valencia over a possible summer switch, but has told the La Liga outfit that the Mexico international is happy at Old Trafford.

"Valencia were really interested. I had the opportunity to talk to the sporting director but Javier wants to consolidate himself in Manchester."

We cannot ever lose Hernandez. He will be the best striker in the world some day.

I'm not saying people changed their minds but it's amazing how many people now say we don't need Baines all of sudden.

I agree btw. Although of he comes with CM ill be happy.

Can any one tell me what the story is with Hernandez? Is he injured at the moment?

you do realise that we will have to pay around £15million for him, at least? so im not really sure why your talking about being thrilled to get for £10million when weve already had 2 bids for more than that turned down.

I said "IF". IF we got him for that, then well and good. To be honest, even 15 million, for a player of his caliber and nationality, would be a steal in my eyes, but that would then be verging into paying too much for a back up. I wouldn't want to see any more than that though. As for if he'd be happy playing second fiddle or not, I don't know him personally. At the very least though, he'd have to accept he'd have some strong, strong competition for his spot, but as a team, that can only benefit United...
lol, i f* king knew this was going to happen. so, even though i still expect us to sign players and have been clear about this all summer, i will look foolish for condemning him for doing a job he is paid to do, but 4-8 weeks later than he should have done?????? thats laughable. its like a player being utterly shi*te for 3 months and then playing one good game at the end of that run and people lording him for being greate.

You seem content to try and misrepresent me, and I have a feeling this is breaking down into a battle of semantics at this stage. To me, "condemning" someone should be reserved for someone who has utterly failed in his job. To me, Woodward and United have not failed in their job; namely to buy players within a given window of time that will improve the quality of the team. You want to condemn him because he's not doing his job quick enough. And to me, that is completely foolish. The transfer window lasts from x to y, and there's no bonus points awarded for buying quickly.

Once the players come in, and they improve the team, I'm happy. I'll be nervous until then. And I'd have been happier had the additions been quicker. But to condemn someone should require something more than using the allotted time to do their business.
good grief, if your that easily bought then there is no point debating with me any points about transfers as your are never going to agree with me on how the club should work.
there has been a litany of errors this summer. i see them, most of us do, but for some reason you seem to think that we should forget about them.

Again, misrepresentation. I've never said we should forget about any mistakes. I simply don't put the same weight on their "devastating consequences" as you do.

Though, please, if you don't want to debate the points, please feel free not to make the same posts day in, day out. In the meanwhile, please realize that when you come onto a public message board and go so extreme in your condemnation of some people, there's going to be people who reply with opinions that diverge from your own. ;)

I was at the airport stopping him. YOU SHALL NOT PASS

If we brought him in now, have back up to evra and also play league cup games. In 2 years we have the Best left back in England.

he is the best left back in england as we speak and i would say sign him now or never cause he's 29 in a couple of months like.

12 million for a 28yo left back its enough.

id be very surprised of we hand to go above 32 million pound for both.

As an Everton fan can I make a few points in relation to this double bid.

Firstly €28m is completely insulting For me its at least £10m less than what would be acceptable.

However, remember Moyes knows Evertons financial needs, board and most importantly , players better than anyone on the planet. So I imagine that the aim of this bid is simply to unsettle both players to such an extent thst they either declare their desire to leave or even better for Utd , put in a transfer request.

I think , realistically, this will work with Fellaini, and Utd will get him for a cut price, around £18-20, I still think Baines will stay and, as good as he is, I don't think that's neccessarily a bad thing for Utd

Everton have called the bid embarrassing.

seen as Martinez confirmed the release clause expired on 31st of July for 23.5million, it would suggest they value him higher now and will hold out for more.

It really isn't. Fellaini cost Everton £15m in 08, so now 5 years later, he has established himself in the Premier League, played nearly 200 games for Everton and improved immensely as a player and you think his value has increased by £1m? Give over. Baines has been one of the best left backs in the league over the last few seasons and is worth at least £15m.

Anything under 35m won't get both I'd imagine

This strange summer is getting stranger by the day.

Subsequent £25m double bid now being prepared.

Need to go at 35 million to get both I reckon, maybe even more.

I assume the bids will rise, negotiation tactics etc etc.

So yea, everyone hating wellbeck still ?

25 for Fabregas and now 28 for Fellaini and Baines? Someone at united needs to reevaluate what other players are worth.

    An embarrassing offer.

The valuation we put on rival players is in the same realm of insanity as where guards calculate the street value of seized marijuana. :pac:

you are actually contradicting yourself here. the later it goes, the more desperate we get. look how we got f*cked over with the Berbatov deal. panic is leaving it until two weeks to go.....

I don't think we are desperate at all. We have identified targets surely, and they most likely have been prioritised based on a number of factors. For all we know dealings have been ongoing all summer, and something in the pipeline for the last 30 days comes out today, or something months in the making only appears new now, we don't ACTUALLY know.

There is just as much chance of this windows ending with Modric, Fellaini and Baines, as Ronaldo, Bale and Mata. Despite as much information as people "try" to get on transfers, realisticly we are all clueless

The problem is we base our opinions and assumptions on essentially nothing. There is most likely a handful of people who have the genuine transfer stragety for each window, outlining players, targets, and the relevant financials.
Panic buying is spunking large amounts of cash on average players, to simply appease fans wanting the club to make signings that really have no benefit to the team.Signing for the sake of signing.

And Berabtov was far from this category. He was an identified target months in advance, and Levy did his usual money grabbing ****ebag ways, that in the end damaged his own clubs chances of progress. Berbatov was identified as someone to improve the squad, unfortunately SAF completely mis-used him (by his onw admission). How easily forgotten Berba stepped up to take Rooney's mantle when he hit his barren patch + injury, to score 20+ goals and grab the title.
While still regularly being left on the bench for big games, without making a moan.

If anything Berbatov was a poor researched transfer fromthe club, as it was assumed he would be able to do A. when infact he was best at B

So basically I checked the phone this morn... was still waking up...

Seen Utd make 28mil bid to Everton! I was like woo hoo! Fellaini!!!!!!!!

Then I read it, good god Everton are dead right to be insulted.

Bad summer is getting worse, no signings at all will cap it off nicely.....
