Ibe would have been a shrewder introduction today, instead of Sterling, in my humblest.

Happy with the 3 points but massive improvement needed.

We need Siarez back in the mix asap.

Mingolet was the hero but up until that he was very poor. Hopefully it was nerves.

    Harsh on Sterling

Thought he was awful. Added nothing at all when he came on. I'm worried that his development was stunted last season.

Well I think that this is a game that we could easily have drawn last year and we held on for the win, and that is progress. Albeit with a bit of luck with the peno save.

Regarding Agger, I have said on this thread before that he is over rated and prone to errors.

We could have easily drawn the match today. They hit the crossbar and had a penalty saved in the last 2/3 minutes of the match.

On Agger, I probably would have disagreed with you over the past year but really am starting to come around. I love the man though so I find it difficult to be impartial on him.

All in all, I'm happy with how we played, thought we played with good style and purpose and they showed a great attitude.

Pressure was on to start season with a victory and they have delivered.

    Agree completely.

All this micro - analysis here serves no purpose.

I expect them to improve as season goes on.

How does an attention to detail not serve any purpose? That is what the difference between actually knowing what is going on versus wilful ignorance.

Glossing over glaring issues is not the recipe for success!

    Sterling looks very incomplete.

Seems to be a lot of dislike building up towards Sterling from folks in here.

He's going to be a fantastic player. End of.

Not good enough yet for the first team tbh.

Yeah Rodgers broke him, you could easily tell that from the 15min cameo today:cool:

We could easily have won the game 6-2. It just depends on your outlook.

He won the ball off pennant and ran half the pitch with the ball. He gave away one stupid foul

Of course his development hasn't been stunted. He was excellent in preseason and played well for England U21s this week.

My view is that 'Sterling's see development has been stunted' is nothing more than another attempt to criticise the manager. Just my opinion, of course.

Still dodgy as **** on defending the crosses and corners but did bit better 2nd half. Lucas was fantastic today no wonder we bossed that game

Not a lot of dislike building up from what I can see. He just simply had a bad game today and people are saying it. He was excellent first half of last season then lost form. Seems to have had a good pre-season but a disappointing first appearance in the league.

I'm not going to start slating the lad or think he'll amount to nothing. I think we're all allowed to criticize a player after a poor performance and this is all that this is.

Sterling was badly managed last year but after not playing the 2nd half of the season and a pre season behind him that shouldn't have stunted him.

Imo however, he's not good enough yet to play for us bar an odd cameo. I was hoping he'd be loaned out tbh this season.

    That's football. They didn't score.

People seem to expect teams to win without the opposition having chances. a ridiculous expectation

He's a great guy and a great attitude but he has flaws.

    Hurrah!

Over analysis of errors is too much and expect players who are human beings, despite how skillful they are not to make errors the odd time is just asking too much in my opinion.

When they become consistent is a different matter but slating Sterling for a foul or keeper being nervous on his Anfield league debut is not fair.

He didn't have a bad game. He gave away one free kick. Aside from that he did fine in the 15 minutes he was on the pitch.

Lads ffs , it was only a few minute cameo for the lad, sure he gave away a stupid free but we were on edge at that time of the game, not a great chance for him to shine imo.

I thought he was very poor on the pitch and didn't offer enough. He came on for Aspas, which was the wrong call but not Sterlings fault.

    How so? By playing games?

Remember last season lads we didn't get our first win until September 29th! So we're ahead on that score.

I'm gonna inject a bit of positvity in here for a minute........

It took us 6 games to break 3 points last season :)

Wow. Everyone is being incredibly harsh on Sterling and it's unfair. He was not awful.

Looks like they'll need to add a lot more than 1 striker to their team !!

He's just become a figure of disdain for some. Much like Lucas was when he first arrived.
