Bought a '97 one last year as a stop-gap. Paid €300 with valid test. That one's seriously overpriced!

Any chance that SAABs could be barred from Bangernomics after Unkels one is sold ? Please

After all Autocar journalist James Ruppert, the originator of the term Bangernomics , his theory is that, the bangernomics car can be sold on at its original asking price after a period of free ownership.

SAABs are goin the way of rovers, and as such

could nearly considered Wedding Rings at this stage,

ie very hard to gent rid of ! At any price !

so therefore Saabs NOW fail the main rule of bangernomics , which is zero cost of ownership after resale.

    Only 4 months test.
But if it checks out it has to be decent bangernomics.
    Bit dirty, but nothing serious.
    111k miles
    T/B done
    Asking €695

I think I promised not to post another of these unless it was less than €500 but this looks ok..

    T/B done
    Test until May 14

The BMW purists probably don't approve of these but thought I'd stick it in as there aren't too many left in such original condition and what would appear to be in really good shape.

    New "cluck"...new clutch I'm guessing

It's come down to Kilkenny for the quiet life, much like its new owners!!

Big thanks to unkel for all the advice & to Bangernomics too, for highlighting just what can be had for a relatively modest outlay.

This is slightly over bangernomics money but im sure it could be got for a little less. Granted it's not an exciting car, but for simple a-b reliable and maintenance free motoring one of these will be hard to beat.

That part highlighted is what's wrong with the average Irish motorist. Believes in zero maintenance of a car. I want to run it as cheaply as possible. A cancerous attitude to have.

Every car needs maintenance, regardless of what it is. To suggest otherwise is pure and utter drivel....

Nice car. They've aged pretty well. That one looks to be in good order with low mileage. The one thing about the 1.6 litre models is that seemingly they are alcoholics on unleaded so just to be mindful of that....

seen as the owner is looking for a smaller car it must be fair heavy on the old arab water, one would hardly get 100 miles for a score, perhaps i am wrong.

Obviously what I meant by maintenance free was that those cars give very little trouble outside normal servicing and changing of certain consumables.

They're obviously going to have to be serviced and obviously consumables like brakes and tyres are going to need attention now and again but outside these small few things those Corollas will hardly need any maintenance of note due to being simple and well engineered.

No doubt. Its probably not overly heavy on juice I'm sure but you know the way people are now, all wanting to be driving the most efficient little diesel as possible, ignoring the fact they are spending thousands in depreciation and costly repairs and maintenance for the privilege...hence it may be heavy on the juice in todays world....anyway I'm rabbiting on a bit now, its a story for another thread.

If you were getting 100 miles for 20 quid that would be about 36mpg at todays petrol prices....I'd consider that not too bad for that car really...

That wasn't very obvious with the words "maintenance free motoring". A better statement could have been "would require less maintenance than a number of similar sized vehicles" as that covers most angles. But to suggest no maintenance is a no-no

The worlds worst marketing spiel in action, like something out of the Sunday Indo. Drilled in over years of brainwashing thanks to Irish sheep mentality. Should be "Simply engineered for simple people" :pac:

really itching for something like this! sick of the general ****ness of the glanza, will maybe try to sell when it passes the NCT.
