I've a question myself actually for those who are involved in club boards, how many tickets do clubs get for the AI final if their own county isn't in it? If Mayo get to the final I'd like to get a ticket, but as far as I know it's 2 tickets with those going to the board members (and rightfully so) for all the work they put in throughout the year.

I'm in a hurling club, we generally get 2-4 tickets for both finals, more if Galway are involved in a final. The club sponsor is almost always offered tickets (the only exception is when they tell us they didn't want them, sounds strange but it does happen). How the tickets are distributed is up to the club, but we have two general scenarios:
    1) If Galway are in the minor/senior hurling final we set up a full swap with a club from a county involded with the football finals to get their hurling tickets. Club sponsor is 10 of the allocation are held for the committee(s) for a draw, the rest are open draw for the membership
    2) Galway not involved in either final day - depends on interest, there can be a draw or given to people that show interest in going.

Agree completely. Wouldn't give them my money. I remember seeing a "special offer" for a chicken burger meal that was either €11 or €13. Insane prices. Luckily there are plenty of shops around the ground and they don't stop people bringing outside food in.

Absolutely. The only thing I ever buy inside Croke Park is a programme. Any food and drink I want, I bring with me. After all, you can't beat the oul' hang sandwiches! :)

I have four tickets got for section 329 lower Hogan row p....anyone know what they are like?

Just off the half way line, fantastic seats, will get wet if a shower of rain. I had tickets in 330 for a final last year, super viewing!

Buying food/drink inside a ground is lunacy imo, would never do it. Eat before and after, or bring food in...stop in a shop outside the ground... there is no benefit to buying it inside really.

I got my lower Cusack tickets last night section 306 row FF

Only thing that would make me happier now is a crystal ball to see the result :P
Nerves really starting to kick in

Will there be a thread for people looking for spare tickets for the final. Supporting Waterford in the minor game so getting tickets on the day in time for the minor game could be difficult

There is a good restaurant at the back of the cusack stand lower section 301 where you can get a proper dinner beef and potatoes or chicken and salmon- ie the same dinner as the premium level for about 12e - better value in my opinion than other stalls throughout the stadium.

Most people don't even know that that level even exists and is open to regular ticket holders

Its a carvery- normally three mains of either beef , salmon , chicken, lamb etc. and there is i think a place that has chips beside it. There is also a bar there as well if you want to have a pint. They have TVs etc ( no sound) of the game so that you dont miss out on any action.

You can sit down and have your dinner. Its the only place I know of around Croke park where you can get a decent dinner before the match. Cost around 12.50 for a main, 4.50 for desert but a bottle of water is 2.50 like the rest of the stadium.

Its not located on the concourse or when you walk around so you wouldnt see it if you came into the cusack normally but rather when you go into the actual stand go up to the last row and then past the wheelchair section and then walk down towards the 301 /302 section. You will be walking along the back rows of the seats and eventually see it.

Looking for advice on getting from heuston train station to croke park - maybe by using dublin bus?? what would be the cheapest way or what would be the quickest way?

Luas from outside the station to either Abbey Street or Bus Áras, walk from there. Easily the best option, getting a bus to Dorset Street or Ballybough Road is pointless imo, and a waste of money. Unless you have mobility problems of course.

if its next sunday, the luas will be jammed full from the red cow stop! get the bus! got on the luas last sunday morning and it was packed! about 5 or 6 people managed to squeeze in at hueston.

Agree that the Luas to Abbey St or Busaras is your best bet. But if it is jammers (and it probably will be) any of the Dublin Buses that stop outside Heuston, will be heading towards town. Jump on any of those, and they will get you at least as far as Westmoreland St/O'Connell St. It's then up to you if you want to walk to Croker or get another bus. The buses that head over that way depart from the Dr Quirkeys stop, just across the road from the Gresham. I'd walk though. Mingling with the match day crowds as you walk is much better craic.

Mick Wallace (I know, I know.... ) has a really good Italian restaurant just up from Jurys Hotel, as you head towards the NCR. Really good grub, at good prices too. It's only open from 5pm on Sundays, which isn't much use for a 3.30 champo game at this time of the year. But I've eaten there before & after league & champo games on other days & times, and it was dead handy. Then there is Jurys itself. Food can be a bit hit and miss there imo & it certainly ain't cheap for what you get. There are also several decent restaurants in Drumcondra, up near the Skylon Hotel & across from St Pats. 10 minute walk from the top of Clonliffe Rd max.

Depends on the time, I got a seat myself last Sunday around half 1. Even if it is jammers I just find the Luas the handiest, and if the ticket inspectors aren't around either it's free:pac:

Eh, no it really isn't free. Fare dodging results in regular, paying punters (like me) having to pay higher fares just to keep the whole shebang afloat. So thanks very much for that. Feel free to watch games at home from now on !

agreed,it wont break the bank from hueston into town.

As regards taking the Luas from Red Cow, isn't the car park there always full very early? If Dublin or any team south of Dublin are playing, is it a realistic option? And with the 2 teams on Sunday both coming from south of Dublin and most them coming in on the M7, wouldn't you have to be there at the crack of dawn?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,569 ✭✭✭✭ProudDUB

There are also 450 spaces at the Tallaght Park and Ride location. It's off the Belgard Rd, just before the Red Cow exit. Just follow the signs.

You can park at Maynooth and get the train in, it stops right in Drumcondra. For people looking for tickets, especially for the all Irelands the season ticket is the way to go.Too late for that now for this year, but if you are in a county shirt and get in to town early, there may be people willing to sell at face value. The Gresham (outside it)is usually wortha try.

Cheeverstown could be a better option?

One thing I dont like about the season ticket is that it caters almost exclusively for people who only follow their own county. I like to go to a lot of games where I am a neutral. Sometimes, I think I actually prefer going to a neutral game cos it means that Galway's performance won't be putting me in a bad mood! But a season ticket doesnt really cater for people who go neutral games, does it?

This. Going to neutral games, I've always done it but I only get as far as the semi's. I wish they could have some sort of loyalty scheme that would reward fans like that. I've been to every QF and SF so far both codes, along with a load of league matches (along with the vast majority of Galway games), yet going to either final will be difficult. Luckily I've got my ticket pretty much sorted for the hurling from a Cork friend, but the football is the one I want to go to and I don't think I'll be getting one.

@ProudDub relax there a small bit, I've got a leap card myself, it was just a passing comment. No need to take it so personally! From my experience on the Luas on matchday I'd say about a quarter of the folk don't pay, if not more. Direct your anger at them. And as for telling me to stay at home, lol.

Well apart from the championship it does. You could theoretically go to dozens upon dozens of league games if you wanted to, the season ticket gets you in for free to them all. Nevermind the club finals.

I suppose they could let you get a fiver off any championship fixture if you're a season ticket holder?

Luas is def the way to go.

Used the Cheeverstown P&R before - you even avoid Newlands Cross.

All kids are also free on Luas every weekend at the moment
