Loyalists rioting again

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/northernireland/10234703/26-police-hurt-in-Belfast-riots.html

It seems nearly 30 people have been hurt so far. So why are they doing this? Surely attacking what is a british police force (I don't mean that in a bad way or anything - it just is) kinda goes against the whole "loyalism" thing?

And I'm not just referring to this incident, but more generally why are the loyalists acting up of late? Why now? What are they trying to achieve? Surely in many ways, they've won - NI is still part of the UK and looks to remain that way, all sides except a tiny headbanger dissident element have essentially accepted that.

So what have they got to complain about?

As an aside, is anyone else sick of this trouble surrounding parades for one side or another? How about this -ban all parades for 5 years until they learn to be mature about it and live & let live

Why, because they are scumbags with nothing better to do.

There's many reasons. Having terrorists in stormont doesn't bode well with them.

And having criminals and gob****es in the Dail doesn't bode well with me either - still don't feel like attacking my own police force about it

....yes, appalled by the message this sends out about law and order, they decided to batter the peelers.

The rioters are little scumbags. But they're the tip of what the general feeling is within large sections of the loyalist unionist community. .

They feel their culture and identity is under attack

That's not quite true, is it? They're fine with terrorists in Stormont as long as they're loyalist terrorists. Let's not forget they're also deeply unhappy with the likes of Máirtín Ó Muilleoir, who has a squeaky clean rap sheet, and Niall Ó Donnghaile, who is far too young to have "terrorist" accusations flung at him, representing them even at a local and mostly ceremonial level.

...that's been the case more or less continuously since the foundation of the statelet. The difference now is they can't take it out on the minority.

Water and oil don't mix, its same on both sides, living too close to each other, individual cultures, always going to be a clash at some stage unfortunately

56 police injured and they're trying to claim the cops are being heavy-handed? Hilarious.

    The rioters are little scumbags.

I'd agree with scumbags, but little? Some of the people being put in jail for rioting are grown men and women who really should know better.
A woman who threw three stones at police during a flag protest riot has been jailed for eight months...

Jailing the 51-year-old at Belfast Crown Court, judge David McFarland said despite the fact she was the main carer for her disabled adult children, the courts had issued repeated warnings that those who attacked police will go to jail...

A prosecution lawyer described how the organised flag protest erupted into violence and that the mother of three had been seen by three different officers throwing a total of three pieces of masonry at police....

Leathem was arrested at the scene and during police interviews admitted throwing one stone but claimed that had been aimed at her friend's son who had daubed graffiti on a wall.

If you watch the videos of the parade stand off at Twaddell Avenue, those are middle aged to elderly men jumping up and down on the police landrovers. Those are middle aged to elderly men attacking the police lines. Those are middle aged women down at the lower Newtownards road dancing and singing and claudding at the cops under the water cannon.

You can't brush this one off as simply disaffected youth with nothing to do. The footage and the court reports prove otherwise.

Loyalists are the scum of the earth.

In fairness there's scum on both sides, be they nationalist or loyalist. That said, its easy enough for us to say "why can't they all just let it go, they're living in the past etc.", but this attitude really is part of who they are, its bred into them from an early age. Its a case of if you're not from there, you simply don't understand, and probably never will.

They're not Loyalists as such. They're scumbag criminal cavemen who just happen to be Protestant but they have no loyalty to the Queen or anyone else. They use loyalism as an excuse to wreck their own country and cause as much damage as they can. The vast vast majority are uneducated brain dead pathetic people that don't actually know what they're fighting/rioting against they're just thugs hiding behind a flag.

"Waaaaaa, our culture of supremacy and identity created through hatred and sectarianism is under threat!"

There's no place in Northern Ireland for these people and the sooner they realise this the better.

Their rioting because they are not allow express their hate for other people in front of them. They can still do just not in front of them.

In this thread and previous threads about riots, someone always says "They're not real Loyalists".If they're not real Loyalists, why don't Loyalist politicians condemn their actions? After every riot,Loyalist politicians blame the PSNI,the Parades Commission, and anything else under the sun they can think of.Until Loyalist politicians put the blame where it truly lies, with the rioters,I'll consider every rioter as much of a Loyalist as the politicians that protect them.

The main two unionist parties have been involved in stirring up trouble particularly the DUP but they can't condemn it as they are a hard core vote they don't want going elsewhere.

They are desperately trying to stem the advance of the alliance party particularly in Belfast but they don't seem to realise that a bug chunk of the alliance parties voted are actually from the catholic community who are only going to be pushed toward Nationalist parties by these actions.

It's also worth pointing out that the likes of Willie Frazer should be ignored he talks of the 1 million Protestant unionists in Northern Ireland when the last census should there to be closer to 850,000. Then it doesn't take into account that Protestants are much more likely to be republican then Catholics are likely to be Unionists even if we are talking a small percentage.

We all know how that feels.., so its come a full circle.

They really need to get an education and move on. Rioting does nothing for their cause and only discredits them.

I can't wait for the day in the not too far away future when Ireland reunifies using peaceful and political means. There will then be all out Civil War and the Irish Gardai and Army will be assigned the duty of controlling these bigots.

Scotland will be independent also so their entire Union is dissolving before their eyes and the English will soon be a minority in their own country. Playing empire has really backfired upon the English. Sinn Fein are a rising power in the Republic and are the biggest political party on the island of Ireland winning continued democratic mandates. In a United Ireland Sinn Fein will dominate Irish politics.

Brain-dead bigots who have not got a clue what they are 'fighting' for, when you see 50 year old men and women acting like wild animals it really is pathetic. How much has this already cost in damages/repairs/policing? No surrender my arse....

The lunatics running the asylum!!! SF will never get into power on Kildare street. They have no credible economic or development policies other than tax those with a job and give it to those without a job and without a leaving cert.
