and what if you dont have a credit card  sure I don't. So I should be hauled into the cells?

But what if people disputed the fine too (which most would) throw them in cells too?

Seriously MadsL, guards carrying Credit Card machines? :pac: It's a stupid idea :pac:

If you were committing an offence you would be arrested you would be taken to the cells ANYWAY!! Then you would have to pay the fine anyway.

The fine is a quicker way to deal with public order offences and keep Gardai on the streets at busy times.

It would save the State hundreds of thousands in paperwork and police time.

Surely you have a debit card.

In my view, it is time Gardai were empowered to levy on the spot fines with credit card facilities to deal with anti-social behaviour.

Pissing in the street = €125 Sir, and here is your bucket and mop to clean it up.
Vomiting in the street = €125 Ma'am. Visa will do nicely.
Aggressive anti-social conduct in public = €190 or a night in the cells, your choice.

They carry them in the vans Barcelona, as I had the displeasure to find out when bursting for a shíte one evening there

    Lesson learned no doubt.

So, instant karma. 10 minutes of police time, and no nonsense about charges being struck out when the Garda fails to show up with the associated court costs.

    Win win?

Nah, better than that, was actually arrested, throw in back of the van and being brought to a cell unless I could instantly pay, no pussy footing about

I have never seen a public toilet in Dublin.

Might be a while since you've gone out in Dublin then? The council do put out urinals on Westmoreland Street and Camden street (maybe more) on weekend nights.

I go out a couple of nights a week. I've never seen one. I'm usually on Camden Street once or twice a week.

Even if they brought those fines in and I had to pay 100 quid for pissing in a Lane. I've a really weak bladder so what am I meant to do? Piss myself? If I went toilet before I left club I'd say I need to go inabout 15 minutes. Your Idea is flawed.

No he isn't. It would be an option, just like paying a fine is an option for a whole range of offences now.

But its already illegal to piss in the street. How does this change anything?
Its just a more streamlined way of collecting the fines.

Trying to remember the last time I went to post in a thread and it wasn't started by you...

Anyway: no - won't work. You don't see your credit card as "real money" so people will be more likely to take the risk.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

You don't see your credit card as "real money". Be very very careful with your finances if that is the case, surefire way to get into debt.

That's kind of the point of credit cards.

I don't really see your idea as workable until a proper public toilet system is (re) introduced to the city, but there will be the inevitable arguments against the issues that they give rise to as well.

The public vomiting - while I would assume is mainly drink related - can be related to actual medical conditions. Were I in that situation, I would hate to have to appear in court to argue my fine while also deal with whatever it was that was wrong with me.

This is funny. The Garda don't have guns but you want to arm them with visa machines.

Wouldn't look good if you were applying for a loan and there was a few fines on your account.

Also a lot of people don't like paying electronically, they prefer cash, so third
parties, like insurance companies, can't access you lifestyle habits.

Pissing in the street is a lifestyle habit. Hmmm.

Best not do it in the first place if you do not wish your 'habits' to be shared with your insurance company. Or go to court and pay full whack.

If you want to pay in cash or postal order, you have a right to. Hat the hell? The state not accepting the official currency of the nation? That's hoo ha.

    No it isn't.

If the full fine is €500 in court, a fixed penalty gives you a discount for immediate settlement.

This could be €125 at the time of the offence paid through credit card to the arresting officer or by payment at the fines office (in cash, postal order or fuppin' stamps) within 7 days on production of proof of name and address.

Not the slightest hint of hoo-ha...

Your argument is that because some people do not see credit cards as "real money" they are more likely to piss on the street as any fine is not "real money".

    I see.

Has the introduction of fixed penalty speeding fines payable by credit card led to an increase in speeding as "sure, fuckit, it's not real money"???

What a strange line of reasoning.

... has it actually led to a decrease?

Anyway, people when drunk lose all perception of money. Handing over a piece of plastic is not going to sober them up.

Would you be happy to have a discount on your speeding fine if it were, the savings the State makes on processing it being passed to you as a discount for early settlement?

    I know I would.

If you're going to fine someone for breaking the law, fine them. None of this "discount" crap.

Special offer this month - get caught three times, but only pay twice!! :D
