Assuming Bale does go to Real, this could well be my team for GW1. I'll have 3 DGW'ers so I'll have to sub at least one of them out for GW3.
    Thoughts, suggestions?

    Mignolet

    Zabaleta --Coleman--Mertesacker----
    Hazard--Walcott--Coutinho--Koren---
    Lukaku--Benteke--Negredo

    Boruc--Whittaker--Dikgacoi--Shaw

He's not suspended, IIRC him, Mata and Torres could all be off playing in a Spanish friendly a day or so before the season opener.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

They almost certainly will be off playing for Spain - Mourinho has said as much (I'm sure if you search Google you'll find the quote).

I wouldn't risk it unless he comes out and says they are starting.

Cech in goal for the DGW. After that, he'll go to either Hart or De Gea. Personally I think United will be strong at the back this year, and De Gea is only getting better and better. For the sake of .5m he could be a very good shout, especially after United's opening fixtures.

Coleman, who should go forward all day long under Martinez, Toure who'll be a the heart of the Liverpool defence I think and Mertesacker, despite being a lumbering giant, had a good season last year. If Toure doesn't hold down a place, he can be upgraded to someone like Nastasic by sacrificing .5m from the bench.

Coutinho, Mirallas, Kagawa, Hazard and Walcott will all score goals. The only uncertainty here is Kagawa, whether or not he'll actually starts and plays 90mins remains to be seen.

Dzeko and Lukaku up front, now that Pelligrini has said Dzeko will be his main striker and Lukaku gives me the DGW and an instant swap to Wolfie/Bony/Hoop/Berba/Bent if he fails to impress (although I reckon he's #1 for Chelsea up front this season)

Benched I have Boruc, who'll be #1 at Southampton so I have an instant back-up should Cech get injured or shot or something. Anelka, proven goalscorer - again, perfect backup in case something goes askew with my first two and then Bassong and Turner offer reasonable cover at the back if needed, although I doubt I'll ever need to use Turner.

All in all, I think this is a very good team through and through.

I might downgrade Snoddy to get better defenders.

GW 1 Cech -> Hart or Benteke-> Soldado.

Negredo is too risky for me, they have 4 strikers and Dzeko is playing a blinder in pre-season. 2 Goals & 2 assists for Bony tonight. Benteke, eventhough he has a double gameweek, he has 2 tough fixtures, i'd look elsewhere personally.

Too much money tied up in defence. Leaves your midfield and forward line without any attacking cover from Utd/City/Arsenal/Chelsea.

Id probably start by taking at least Evra out of your defence and possibly zabaleta/hart and 1 city should be enough

2nd drafts lads tried to take advice and got a cheaper defence only reason 3 Chelsea is dgw

Might aswell get this going again while people are tinkering with their teams.

I present to you Hat-Ricky FC version 1.0

Guaranteed to change at least 72 times between now and August 18th. I'll need to have a better look at this new BP system as I think it may favour defenders more, in which case I may need to bring in the likes of Baines/Vertonghen/Johnson and go with a 4-4-2 over last year's favoured 3-5-2.

Berbatov, RVW, Coleman and Bellamy are the value so far, with Dikgacoi the best £4.5m midfielder I can see. I really want to keep Kagawa in there but i can only do that if he's nailed on as a starter this season. Azpi is in there based on Chelsea having a double or triple GW. If this is the case I'll bring in a third Chelsea player.

    etzd37.png

Will Bellamy start every week ???

That bench hurts my head. Caulker is an absolute waste of .5 or even 1.0, also Mcshane isn't likely to start no matter how hilarious it is to have him in the squad. Chester's a better bet. If you can afford Brady he's a handy backup to be fair.

I think mcshane will start did he not get a new contract??? Caulker with Cardiff now so he should get his game not overly happy with both but glad to have Brady there

    .

Snap have a very similar team, except for
    bassong- clyne
Dzeco had Negredo but also monitoring sturidge and bent and even soldado now if comes in. but ye dzecko is up there too if keeps up form-
Last midfield slot depends on forward, buy kagawa a good shout, but don't like united's opening fixtures.

So that's is solid team, hard to best it

A new contract doesn't guarantee starting. I've no doubt he'll pick up games but a certain starter is more beneficial and it seems that Chester is the most likely. The point about Caulker is that you can have other Cardiff defenders for 4.5 leaving that extra .5 to be used somewhere else. Paulinho to Mirallas could be done with Hudson/Davies/Connolly of Cardiff @ 4.5 over Caulker. That .5 should be used as wisely as possible is the point I'm making and in my own opinion (not that it's worth much) is wasted in Caulker. You could even upgrade the keeper to a starter @4.5 or Mcshane to Mickey T/Clyne/Collins

Good team Id change bassong to mickey t who is cheaper and as effective.
Only problem I can see is with your strategy of offloading cech before lukaku and hazard. It makes no sense imo as you have in boruc a keeper that has great fixtures gw 2 sunderland gw 3 norwich. Hazard and lukaku will also drop in price quicker than cech. Lots of people are planning this move and its a bad mistake if you have a 2nd keeper that plays as come gw 3 you will be left with either hazard or lukaku in your squad.

    McShane? Get out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,902 ✭✭✭MagicIRL

Hull and Cardiff will get destroyed clean-sheet wise, and McShane is the reason it rains so often in Ireland to begin with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

On a purely footballing level, I hate Paul McShane. He had one decent game for Ireland (think it was his debut against Czech Republic?) and never played well after it. Cost us a lot of goals over the years, and lets not forget who was marking that pr*ck Henry in the infamous game. His pace is laughable, easily the slowest player I have ever seen in the Premier League. Watch the first minute of this video as players burst past him like he was standing still. I could run faster backwards.

Then there was the 7-1 defeat in 2007 where McShane was to blame for virtually every goal, starting with him falling over his own feet to let Yakubu score. I can't imagine Keane was too happy with him afterwards... He slots nicely into my top three most hated footballers, behind the above mentioned Henry and ofc, top man John Terry.

The fact that he's playing in the Premier League again is incredible. The fact that some people are considering him for their FF teams is even more so...

Okay, my first attempt at a team for this year. Have 3 Chelsea players in and will get one out after GW1 and maybe another after GW2. A bit iffy on my defence and am obviously missing RvP. Any suggestions on improvements would be very much appreciated :)

Do ye think Jovetic will start for city in GW1?

Of City's 4 he's the 4th most likely to from what I can see but then again the view's as clear as mud.

Dzeko has been playing great in pre-season and Pellegrini has been saying he's his main man. Negredo scored a decent goal against Bayrern last night and Aguero is being weaned back slowly but would ultimately be 1st choice in the long run. Jovetic is the biggest unknown, not worth the risk at this moment in time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

Yeah he seems to be 4th choice.

To be perfectly honest not a lot. Vorm is a decent keeper but @5 is an inbetween and Swansea have horrendous fixtures.

I couldn't advice anyone to touch a Spurs defender until they can prove they'll shore up. Get rid of Walker. Toure @5 is much cheaper than Agger, you could also have Mig in goal if you want Liverpool coverage. Coleman and Clyne are grand but I'd really suggest you bring in a cheap 4/4.5 defender for Walker and cash in on Agger or go for City/Arsenal coverage.

Both Coutinho AND Gerrard? Liverpool fan? Remember it's always the season after that'll be your year. (I have Couts and Mig) no need for 2 9.0 priced Liverpool mids. Do Walcott/Hazard/Silva not seem like better prospects?

I don't fancy Paulinho personally but who's to say he couldn't be solid. Hernandez AND Nolan on the bench? I'm all for a good bench but hell you're wasting money on your starting team. Downgrade one to a 4.5/5 and upgrade somebody. If you don't want any of the big hitters I mentioned above look at Mirallas or Kagawa.

The front 3 are a pretty unknown quantity. Bony could be immense but look at his fixtures. Bentekerrs has an awful start even with the DGW but can see the merit there and I like the Wolf but there's no clear cut fire-power although I have no idea who my forwards will be yet so need need to worry there.

Sorry if I'm brutal and hell I'm not an expert but I think some of those recommendations may help :)
