That was taped in a hotel or am I missing something?

Armstrong not invited to ASO Tour de France function in Paris

Every living man who has finished the Tour de France has been invited to attend a function by the ASO in Paris on July 21, with the exception of Lance Armstrong.

Has Virenque been asked to attend, what about Riis? Lose lose situation for the TdF as if they invite him and he goes (he finished in 1995 so qualifies) it's a PR disaster, but his is clearly not even remotely fair (not that am too worried about it and doubt LA would have gone either).

I think they justify it by saying that he never won as his titles were removed from him. Something that wasn't applied to others who have admitted their guilt or were found to have doped. It's not a process I agree with.

The invitation is to all the living finishers of the Tour. I thought he finished it in 1995 (ie outside of the years when his results were "voided")

Oh yeah there is that little important word "finishers" :o

I would have invited him in either case as odious as he was in his dealings with anyone that dare question him.

By excluding him they are just proving that there heads are still buried in the sand. if they blame all the mistakes of the past on one man its easier to try sweep under the carpet. what about the guys who finished the tours but were doping. its either ask them all or don't have the event at all because trying to refuse the cheats would turn the event into a joke

Are any of the invited cheats still be serving a ban like LA is? If not, specifically excluding him is hypocritical.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,046 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

    I see LA has given an interview to La Monde, in which he states;
The former seven-times Tour winner stated that the "reasoned decision" by which the US Anti-Doping Agency addressed his doping years "did not draw a true picture of cycling from the end of the 1980s to the present day. It succeeded perfectly in destroying one man's life, but didn't benefit cycling at all."

Then he goes on to say
Asked what his daily life consists of since his fall from grace, Armstrong said: "I get up, I drink coffee, I read the paper, I have breakfast, I go out on my bike and train. I come home, I have lunch with the kids, then I spend the rest of the day in meetings, playing golf or in the park with the kids. And about 5pm, I open a nice cold beer and I think."

Doesn't seem to bad to be honest. If that is what a destoyed life is I'll take it:P

And it plays right into his apparent PR strategy i.e. I was wrong and I've admitted it (respect me), everyone was doing it and I didn't start it (someone else was in control) but I'm being singled out unfairly (pity me) by "them" (I'm the victim here).

Its a strategy I think it probably gaining quite a lot of traction by this stage.

Fair point but look at all the other names that are invited. surely questions should be asked about celebrating there "achievements".

Armstrong: “It was impossible to win Tour de France without doping”

Still considers himself the winner from 1999 to 2005

“It was impossible to win the Tour de France in my time without doping,” Lance Armstrong told French newspaper Le Monde in an interview which will be published in its entirety tomorrow. Excerpts have been sent to the media but Cyclingnews had the opportunity to read the full interview with the seven-time Tour de France winner who was stripped of all his titles.

sooo armstrong only doped to keep up with all the people doping to keep up with him, i see a problem here.

    Is a fashionable excuse:

A ridiculous statement. Surely it's only possible to win without doping?

Now Jan Ullrich has his say. From today's online Irish Times "breaking news" section, http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/other-sports/armstrong-deserves-his-yellow-jerseys-argues-ullrich-1.1481880

Jan Ullrich believes Lance Armstrong should still be regarded as a seven-time Tour de France champion and that the results should not have been removed from the record books.

None of them won the Tour de France. They took banned PED's and in doing so disqualified themselves from the race. Discussion over in my humble...

I think it would be more entertaining if they made them do the races again.
