i said the debate should happen. my point was people just making up figures to enhance their argument is pointless. it does nothing to further their point or to add to the debate. there are pros and cons for both sides but if someone is tunnel visioned and can only see one side and invents facts it is not a debate.

It is true though, in relation to government politicians not living in the real world. They cannot see, even to this day that cannabis and hash is so easily available anywhere to anyone at any time, and they still refuse to legalise it and control it.

The gardai will use their discretion if they search you and find a small bit of weed on you and they will most likely take it off you and give you a warning. It may as well be legal for the personal smoker, but smokers and such would obviously get better cleaner weed if it was government controlled.

True, have to say that it's a shame that it's illegality isn't in the constitution, the ability to have a referendum on it would be the fairest way of deciding IMO. Isn't that how it came to be legal in Washington and Colorado?

Personally, I think it's a horrible idea. Would be a shame to erode all the great work the war on drugs has done.

To be fair Ming Flanagan has been in favour of the legalisation of cannabis for almost two decades. He has stood for election on this in some of the most socially conservative areas of Ireland and still got elected. He has been to prison for this and has been ridiculed countless times for his stance, not only on cannabis but also bizzarely on his stance on hemp production (something that this country should seriously look into doing).

A man on an ego trip or somebody ready to feign faux outrage he most certainly isn't, not on this issue anyway whatever about his other ideas or policies.

Wasn't it banned in the first place due to concerns over 'the serfs becoming lazy and not knowing their place' back in eighteen hundred and odd? So I'd imagine one of the perceived cons might be a concern over lessened productivity in the workplace (i.e. everyone would be too stoned to work)

This bill will be kicked from the Dail out to the city limits, and I really don't care. Despite the now daily reporting of cannabis seizures I have never found it easier to get quality bud. Sense will never prevail with this government.

I suggest you look for another source, in fact you just googled cons of marijuana after I asked you to list some (did the same and your link was the first result) had a laugh at their side effects section:

"diarrhea
cramps
weight loss or gain"

Never in my entire life have I heard of someone getting the ****s after a joint. That link proves the abundance of misinformation on cannabis available online

Yeah but would legalising it really make that much of a difference? Like a previous poster said it's easier than ever to buy. The only thing you can't really rely on is the quality unless you grow it yourself of course

It's not going to happen now (as much as i wish it would). But i think it will happen, 10+ years at least imo. There are too many vested interests stopping it from coming in, and too many old timers with the ability to say yay or nay to it.
