sorry for any inconvenience if this is posted in the
    Here we go, good news for some of the Irish people;
    https://www.facebook.com/events/183146295195987/

on a side note I don't even smoke or use pot and i'm still for it been legal,

    Why?:
    • Increase tax money
    • Decrease crime
    • People will respect & like the law & government much more.
    • Overall it would only increase people's spirit, etc.
    • Make people respect and like the government more.
    • Increase money towards tax. More tax money would go towards cannabis meaning less tax needed (in a way, every bit counts.)
    • Decrease crime, because in general having it illegal increases people bad doings. If nicotine became illegal, it would only increase guns, people going to jail, crime attitude, etc.
    • Decrease people's chances of going to jail just for wanting some effects.
    • In general it may make the smokers seem more happier towards the government, people, etc overall.

What do you think about this?....

Finally. Sick of waiting for him to pony up this Bill. Shame he's managed to discredit himself in the meantime.

Any heads of bill for it?

What's this new fangled drug-talk? ARE YOU GOING FOR HEROIN LIKE TONY FLYNN???

It has zero chance of getting through, thankfully.
Just another ego trip for that narcasistic little twirp.

I think this bill should pass. The government should not interfere with a person's personal choices when it comes to their own body, not to mention the $$$ that'll come their way when they start taxing it/selling it.

Sure isn't it a gateway drug, won't the whole country be on Heroin shortly afterwards??

Lets just hope this doesnt lead to more braindead pothead teenagers.

There are many positives to it, and I dont mind people smoking it. But there are so many negatives too, its proven to reduce intelligence and learning ability in teenagers, and I know people who smoke it laught at the whole "gateway" thing, but I've seen it happen to people I know so many times. Mainly in their teens.
They've have all moved on to heavier drugs. Some onto dealing too and turned into complete dirtbags. But thats another positive! Hopefully it will remove the scumbag dealers around the country.

It will need to be regulated fairly well, because if 12 year old kids can gain access to ciggarettes no bother, then they will get to this just as easy.

EDIT: Before this turns into another rehashed drug debate with the same point over and over again. Do you think we could get a more reliable source, other than some stupid facebook group?

Get Bunny Colvin to head up the implementation division.

Would love to see it legalised but I don't think it will happen very soon!

I don't smoke regularly at all but would like the option of having a quiet joint in my house without the fear (and increased paranoia) whenever I hear a siren! :o

    I don't even understand why it's illegal!

Hardly, it's so easily available anyway it will make no difference. Hopefully it gets passed, however, I don't think it will.

Don't smoke weed (well, rarely :p), but would be in favour of this. Anyone who wants to smoke weed can anyway, this will mean less money to criminals and less risk of people smoking something contaminated.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    Can you see the future?

And thankfully you say? A person should be able to get blazed if they so wish, weed's nowhere near as harmful as alcohol or cigarettes.

If alcohol or cigarettes were new inventions tomorrow they'd most likely be illegal.

Do you think all drugs should be legalised?

I'm all in favour but I don't think we're ready for this yet. Too many vested interests and Joe Duffy listeners in the way. Maybe in another twenty years.

Lets make it have a snowball chance of passing, enough is enough. 99% of the people want it to be legal for good reasons and it will have a good outcome.
that's like saying alcohol would have no chance of becoming legal when it was made illegal by one man out of 6 billion people.
    and i'm saying that I don't even smoke/use weed.

You have evidence for the claim that 99% of people want it legalized?
    Thought not!

Yup, I see a future where the overwhelming majority of elected members of the Dail vote against it on its first reading.
Ming will then squeak in faux outrage and burn some illegal turf in the grounds of the Dail in protest.:P

We legalized it 100% here in Washington State last November. Colorado also legalized it.

There's a one year period where the distribution and tax implications are worked out so we're looking at shops and bars/restaurants/bakeries opening to sell it by this autumn. Its legal to possess right now, its just that there's no legal retail system in place. There had already been medicinal pot so the "clinics" already exist. Presumably in the autumn they will simply open their doors to everyone.

When a couple of years have gone by and other sates are able to study our results we fully expect other states to follow our lead, and after that there should be a cascade effect (much like gay marriage) as other states follow.

Already there's huge savings in Police and law enforcement resources, and in the autumn when retail sales begin there will be substantial tax revenues. Unlike amsterdam that is now discouraging "pot tourism", Seattle is ready to fully embrace it; Come visit Seattle and sample the weed, safely and legally. (Just dont try and take any home with you!)

Exactly, I support legalisation but I would vote no to spite Ming. I'd love it if FG beat him to the legislation and got it passed. The look on Ming's face would be priceless.

UMM... Cannabiscuits, Best of luck Ming, but as far as i'm concerned, it may as well be legal in Ireland. But still, it would be nice to get a more different range of cannabis herb for a change.

Depressing reading the comments in this post. It's like an old folks home or Joe Duffys fans were linked to it on facebook.

There's an investor group planning a chain of Pot Shops due to open soon.

There's been interesting issues to emerge too. For instance the POst Office is a federal organization so posting weed would still be subject to confiscation even if it stays within the state. However FedEx and UPS have said they're okay delivering it within the state.

Also technically you're only supposed to smoke it at home. But now they're proposing clubs.
