"We're trying to push the button on one or two players," he said. "We've brought three players in, but an attacking player is a priority now.

"We're looking and looking, it's not as easy as everyone thinks.

"Yes, we have brought in a lot of money but we have to safeguard the future of the club as well.

"We have to be mindful of that when we go into negotiations with players. Some of the prices are too much, some of the wages are too much and sometimes players are happy where they are."

Lennon gave little away on whether he would return for Wolves striker Kevin Doyle following a failed attempt to sign the Irishman in January but did confirm he had watched Evian striker Saber Khelifa and that the Tunisian was an option, before adding that he had a "list as long as your arm".

Its a pity you cant watch the press conferences. Different media outlets focus on different aspects of what is said to make a story. I rather just hear the questions and hear the answers rather than an interpretation from some hack of what he thinks is the important aspects of what is being said.

Marquee signing generally do not work out well for Celtic. Its short term, generally favours the player but leaves the club short in more ways than one and you have a squad of players envious that a guy in the twilight of his career is getting so much and offering such little extra over others. I think the current wage structure is giving us good success and I'd be pissed if Kevin Doyle is the reason we'd break it. He doesnt merit it and I'm glad Lennon thinks that too.

Hopefully the right deal comes along for us and we dont have a "panic buy"

Could say good business for Norwich, Celtic tried to hold Norwich to ransom Jan looking 9-10m. Norwich getting Hooper now for 5m

Players only leave Celtic because they are attracted by the bright lights of the EPL or whatever. Celtic are a well run club financially, they don't need to sell anyone. So if any EPL club wants to buy from Celtic they will have to pay through the nose for them.

In my view Celtic could have got a bit more for Wanyama in particular. Hooper was entering the final year of his contract so maybe got all they could from his sale.

I doubt Celtic would break the wage structure for Kevin Doyle, he's not worth that. However if he really wants to come to Celtic and try to make something of the rest of his career, he'll have to take a wage cut and accept a wage within the current structure.

“When you get the offers of the magnitude of the Wanyama one, and with Gary having a year left on his contract, it made a lot of sense considering the kid wasn’t really pushing buttons to stay.

“But we didn’t have to sell — we’ve had bids in for other players and we’ve rejected them.

“We’ve had a few in for Samaras in particular and he intimated that he wanted to stay — and we weren’t in a great rush to sell him. So it’s not always the case that we have to sell or we want to.

Didnt hear much about the Samaras bids at the time. He's only one year left too. Hopefully himself & Ledley sign those contracts sooner rather than later.

Hopefully Real tie up a deal for Bale, that should end their interest in Sammy

Looks like Lenny is hopeful we'll have a new striker in before Weds game, interesting that he says the player hasn't been mentioned by the press.

Has Stokes signed a new deal? If he's going to sign two strikers Stokes could find himself on the bench or out in the cold.

He certainly looks to have a good goal scoring record, who ever we bring in needs to be a natural goal scorer to replace Hooper.

Any idea what kind of money Finnbogason would cost?

He'd be a very good addition, cant see him being cheap though

I'd say that's the limit of what we'd spend on one player. Can't see us going over 25k - 30k a week either.

Celtic team to face Borussia Monchengladbach: Zaluska; Fisher, Mouyokolo, Ambrose, Waters; Herron, Brown, McGregor, Commons; Balde, Watt

Subs: Fasan, Stokes, Mulgrew, Ledley, Matthews, Atajic, McGeouch, Henderson

    Kick-off 3pm at Celtic Park.

I would have liked to see Atajic start instead of Commons but i'll be interested in how Balde, Watt, Herron & Mouyokolo perform today

LOL @ the sprinklers turning on right when Hoopy was walking past, he got destroyed!

    EDIT

Ah nuts, FRS stream was blocked by Celtic. They brought up his account id info on the stream, 4 seconds later the account was blocked. Unfortunately, an effective way of plugging leaks.

Totally agree we need to get Samaras and Ledley signed to contract extensions. While obviously many players are motivated by money there are still some players who come to Celtic and develop an attatchment to the club even though they most likely could earn more elsehwere. Buying low and selling high is a good policy for Celtic under current financial circumstances but we also need to keep a good core group of players so our team always has continuity and strong leadership.

    +1

Samaras and Ledley are as important to Celtic as Wanyama and Hooper were, even if they'd not command the same transfer fees. Vital we keep the likes of Samaras, Ledley, Broony, Commons, Izzy and Mulgrew. (Yeah I said Mulgrew - he gets far too hard a time from some Celtic fans imo).

Want to see some players really step it up this season incl. Kayal, Forrest and Watt.

Bit worried about Wilson tbh, just when he's looking solid, it looks like he also might be for the off. :(

Anyone see the game today? I see a lot more grumbling about Balde today, hope he turns things around but I'm beginning to wonder have we signed a dud....

Obscure Carlisle team Gilford Park have been rebranded Celtic Nation in a long-term plan for the Glaswegian club to gain an English foothold

Love the idea of that, will be interesting to monitor their progress. I'll reserve judgement on it for a while though. If it worked out, it would be awesome.

sorry but what exactly would be awesome about it? Sums up everything that is rotten about modern football

I only posted the link to see how people would react to it, it's a nothing story, just a Celtic fan with money to throw away who wants his own private plaything.

Anyone who thinks what is being proposed in the article is a good thing has no concept of what football is actually about.

Does the idea of ultimately playing in a more competitive league not appeal to you?

Like I say, I'll reserve judgement, but if this worked out and Celtic FC eventually had some involvement, it could be a back door into a better league.

Don't expect UEFA or the EPL to do us any favours. You have to work the system.

You really don't get football or what supporting a club is about, do you?

Never going to happen, but hypothetically speaking, say this club won promotion through the tiers of English football, at what stage should they merge with Celtic?

Whenever it happened the old Celtic, you know the club with all the history, would become extinct. Remember how all the Celtic fans slagged Rangers when their club became extinct.

Well this would be even worse than that as Celtic would be doing it voluntarily, as opposed to having it forced on them.

    You don't get football

I think the celtic nation thing is a good stand alone thing and as the owner said its good for scottish and irish people in england.. i would never expect it to merge with celtic as its not a viable option. Why would local celtic nation fans want to merge with another club amd surrender their license to a new club in another city for starters?

I doubt they wanted their original club to be taken over and renamed in the first place
