had my best ever round of golf today...+4 around citywest 44pts off 12 (73 strokes) (2 birdies,2 bogeys,1 double and 13 pars) the last 2 months or so have been a nightmare,i managed to perfect a snap hook! so i took a 3 week break from the game and i have to say its worked wonders. i started the year on 16.8 and set a target of 11.5. before todays round i was 11.7. could be single figures soon....

mmm good shooting ! but you might wanna check your card ? I make out 2 birdies 2 bogeys 1 double and 13 pars to be +2 and not +4 ??

    you're right..it was actually 11 pars,4 bogeys,2 birdies and a horrible double on index 1. +4...73 strokes around citywest par 69.

Poor 23 pts off 25 ! Going to look at course mgt !

I drive and putt well !

So drive, 8 iron, chip on par 4's and two 8 irons on par 5 - see can I start playing to my handicap !

    32pts of 14, played well, except for 2 shocking 3 bogie's .

68 Gross for 39 points in Lucan yesterday. Round consisted of seven birdies, two bogeys and a double on the short 7th where we were called through and preceded to make a complete hash of the hole through rushing.

Played really well but not getting carried away as the conditions were unreal with about 80yards run on the ball at the moment

Was nice to get out and enjoy it again after hating golf for the past couple of months

7 birdies  Good work sir !!!
doesnt' matter if the course was playing easy, you still have to hit the shots.

40 points of 10 today with a big dirty scratch on the last :(

does anyone know if you brake 40 points twice in a sort space of time is there an extra cut or was someone just pulling my leg ?

It depends on what css is. If you break css by 4 or more twice in the space of 5 weeks(I think) then you are liable for an ESR(exceptional scoring reduction) of 1 or 2 shots. Search exceptional scoring reduction here there is a thread about it.

71 (-1) round royal tara this morning for 67 nett.
course is playing very short with the dry weather but we got pissed on for the back 9....slowed things down a bit...

    Played twice this week:
    • Tuesday singles in Charleville, a miserable 22pts off my new handicap of 23. A real punishing course but wasn't playing well at all and my distances were all out.
    • Wednesday singles in Mallow in semi-torrential rain, a much better 31pts off 23 which included only 1 scratch but 4*3putts. Played great but course is odd in that you can hit the middle of the fw but yet still be in trouble due to bounce etc.
All in all, I will sum up this week by saying "I'm getting there".

An absolute cracker of a day today in Mulranny GC.

31 points keeps the steady-ish progression going but today was the first day in a long long time that I've enjoyed my golf. (Maybe it was just down to a strong finish)

Driving was solid, I've given up on trying to get a draw and am just embracing the fade (trying to keep the slice away) and it's working.

Funny day on the green, didn't feel like missing, and didn't, miss anything from 6ft and in.... Never threatened anything from outside that however.

Started off great. 1 over through 4.

Then I collapsed, started sh**king every second iron.... Real horror show.
Worst was on a 160y par 3... Hit it 90 yards and was still 155 yards away :(

Stood on the 12th with 15 points points.
Shook off the S's off and went 5 over for the last 7.
Could have been a few shoots better, I was hitting them where I wanted, I just wasn't playing links golf and took on a few stupid shots.

Anyway, something to take onto the next round. Finally enjoyed a round, it's been a while.

36pts today at the Kilcock open. Nice day with good company and the course was in great shape. Should have done better but two poor drives along with some iffy approach play on several holes let me down. Looking forward to Team classic at Castlebarna in the morning. Hopefully will get to see some improvement from today.

37 points off visitor tees (14 handicap) on Smurfit course at the K Club this afternoon with my son and friends.

2nd time I've played this course ... last time with a society on a cold, wet spring day in 2012. So much better playing it today with nice warm weather and only the odd spot of rain. I guess we were lucky, as I read of flash flooding elsewhere in the country.

Have to say, I really like this course and prefer it over the Ryder Cup Palmer Course at the same venue, which I've played 4 times.

Hard to believe this course is entirely "man made" - I gather the par 5 7th alone cost over €3m when it was built (with a lot of help from set builders from Universal Studios). I wouldn't be that gone on the American style bunkers, though, which must cost a fortune to maintain.

Smurfit course has a lot of varaition - back nine more so than the front. Really loved the par 4 15th, which I birdied.

35 points around O'Meara this morning. Lovely calm morning hampered by shocking slow greens. Are in complete contrast to the greens on the Montgomerie.

Playing in the mid-am this week in the grange so looking forward to that

39pts today off 7. Pretty good, had three 3 putts and had to chip out of trees 4 times though, but on the flip side, held a few long putts and got one or two lucky bounces. Probably got what I deserved overall. Could have been better, could have been worse. Very encouraged.

Totally forgot about the fecking ESR though, I might have pushed that last putt on 18 had I remembered !! I just disagree with it in principle. I want to get lower, but want to do it under my own steam so to speak, and these hard, bouncy conditions with lots of run are arguably falsifying peoples' level at the moment.

Bleuch... another one of those rounds I'm not entirely sure if I should be disappointed it wasn't better or relieved it wasn't worse... some silly errors in there, I can pear five shots off that score if I'd just thought certain shots through more... must make better decisions...

Positives: Scrambled it round all day despite the fact I wasn't really hitting the ball any better than 'okay'... putted reasonably well... 8 Fairways - good for me... five pars...

Negatives: Two bad decisions costs me two Trebles... should've laid up on 4, had a funky lie in the fairway and was blocked out by trees - should've pitched short of the water and wedged in for a two-putt bogey... on 14, I hit my drive way right and never found it... then, as I walked off the par-three 17th green 45 mins later, I found the feckin thing :o ... but I should hit iron off that tee, I can hit 3-iron, 8-iron there but I rarely seem to find the fairway with the driver... on 16, pin-high left in two, loadsa green to work with, lovely lie... chunked the chip - very infuriating...

Finished with two nice pars but I fear it might be a .1 back... although it's p*ssing rain now and I'm home with the feet up so hopefully the downpour continues :D (sorry AJ, if you're out there!!)

Oh God no (see my above post about today's round and you'll know why :) ) but a pal of mine who can actually play golf properly is and I knew he said it was the weekend of August 10/11 when I was talking to him during the week...

    Good Luck!

You have admitted that course management cost you probably 5/6 shots today and in hindsight poor decisions off the tee were he main cause of this.

I played this morning and was spraying the driver all over the course. Took out the 3 wood on the 8th and didn't use the driver for the rest of the day. My course management from the 8th was so much better from there on in.

Results were 3 over from the 1st to he 7th where I hadn't a clue where it was going to go to 3 under for the last 11 where I managed to put the ball in play.

Need to find out now why I was blocking the driver today, but still managed to hack it round by taking it out of the bag.
