The penny has finally dropped

I have been unemployed now for nearly 18 months at this stage. Money is very tight but i cant seem to find a job in the areas i'm qualified but im really gone to the stage now where im living week to week on the dole and cant afford any luxuries at all which is fair enough i suppose in the circumstances.

I see lots of friends around me who are currently working and they take money for granted (as i did a few years back) as they have a steady weekly wage comin in.My current stint of unemployment has not been nice but it has thought me well on how to survive on a very low budget. This can only be a good thing, as when i return to work i will appreciate the income i get more in future.

Naturally i know money makes life a bit more comfortable but i know im not going to starve in the morning but i will miss out on the luxuries that go with working.

I see people being controlled by money everyday, am i naive to think that i will be happier with more money coming in, as im not convinced. Although life isnt easy at the moment and i am living week to week, i know that i can survive which is reassuring. Some people automatically assume money = happiness but im not too sure. Im happy at the moment but bored because i have nothing to do during the week. I have tried to keep myself busy doing other things but there is only so much you can do before you realise that without a job your options are very limited.

I have retrained myself in the last 18 months to get into another sector as backup considering the way the construction sector is gone but im not sure i like the way this country is heading with all the stealth taxes. They seem to be taxing the middle income family disproportionately and i cant see the attraction of joining the rat race again in ireland so that i can pay disproportionate tax to a corrupt government. This country is corrupt to the core and i try to avoid paying any taxes that i dont agree with (especially the ones that are invented). I did not initially realise why so many people were emigrating but now i have finally realised that the government is screwing everyone they can and the best option is to leave.

Its sad but it has taken me 18 months to realise this and if i want to make a decent wage after tax, then ireland doesnt seem to be the right place.

I paid my tax for the last 9 years before i was made redundant so i think i have paid enough to justify my current stint on the dole. Like me there are thousands of others in the same situation, who with a bit of cop on realise that Ireland sadly is not where you want to live your life in the future.

Ireland can be a good place to make money, but unfortunately you need to be good at something, know the right people or be lucky.

Maybe you should look outside your chosen field of work, after 18 months maybe there is no work in that field. Or are you one of those people that sit on the dole because they believe it is below them to work in the local spar or MC Donald's.

As regards corruption in the country, didyou ever vote for fianna fail?

Find an area you are interested in and head to FAS/Local College and see what they have to offer.

You should be entitled to 2 years of VTOS and an extra 20 quid a week plus lunch and travel.

Been unemployed myself last 2 years but ive spent it studying IT and i am loving it.

Yeah for about a month until you adjust your lifestyle to fit your income. No matter how much you have coming in you will always adjust the outgoings to keep yourself broke.

No never voted for FF, sadly i voted FG this time around be we all make mistakes.

Its not below me to work in mcdonalds or spar, i just dont want to work there. I have worked hard to get the experience i have got so would prefer to use it if possible. As a good man said to me last year year, its the country that is broke not you.

Well stop complaining then, you can't have your cake and eat it!

Get a job in your local shop and apply for better jobs. The country owes you nothing, just because your qualified or have a degree in something doesn't entitle you to a job!
