6 feral cats not 'a couple of cats'. The owner was mauled along with the dog. That make her a wuss too?

    Yawn.....

Given a choice of a fight with some dogs or some cats i'd prefer the dogs to be honest...

After all, A Lion is a cat. As is a Tiger. And a Leopard.

Give me a wolf that i can train like Snake Eyes pet, Timber, anyday!

    Such a try hard.

Did you read the article? She's French and she owns a poddle.

    Not all poodles are pussies.

    She owns a river?

I read the article. It seems you didn't. As you assume a poodle is a small fluffy lap dog.

Course not, that would have been catastrophic.

It's actually pretty hard coming up with cat puns.

So far I only have catatonic and a few shit ones based on tabby and Whiskas on the mental drawing board. :(

8 of of ten cats prefer poodles.

I would rather my chances in a fair fight against 6 cats , than against 6 dogs.
I disagree, if they were the same size. Cats have four more things with which to inflict injury than dogs do (ie. a set of claws on each foot), and can climb up you to do maximum damage.
I wish headlines in the paper were as straightforward as the ones here.
    Would this be better?

FRENCH BITCH LICKED IN PUSSY RIOT
The infection from the cat bites would kill you in the end, days later in agony.

Well at least I think so, I think cat saliva is meant to be nasty stuff.
Yup. Cat saliva is toxic, and because they lick themselves the bacteria is generally all over their claws too.

And for anyone wondering how they pulled her down; a torn artery will collapse you in short order.

There are an estimated 8,000 feral cats born in France every day

    Wha? 8000, bull****.

Not that it matters much but it wasn't two cats.

On topic, I've been attacked by a single cat when I was a teen and to be honest it was pretty frightening. Can't image what it'd be like to be attacked by 6 from all directions.
"left with a torn artery which could have proved fatal" ****ing hell..

According to your detailed and representative survey results?

Yes. I have yet to see a responsible cat owner exercise their animal under control. Usually they are just let out. No worries about them getting hit by a car, ****ting in their neighbours flowerbeds and being an all round menace to society.

Cats can be terribly vicious. When I was a child, I was attacked by one and I can still remember it vividly. Not a fan of them at all. I'm always wary of them.

This poor woman. One cat coming at you is bad enough but six. I can't even imagine how it must have felt.

He added: "Tourists from countries like Britain should certainly be wary – they should certainly not approach these cats, or try to feed them."

    LOL :D

Those idiotic British tourists who insist on feeding our ferocious feral french cats should desist or suffer dire consequences...

Im guilty of feeding wild cats too... This could happen to me

The poodle or ya wan must have provoked them, cats don't attack you without a genuine reason.

The cats involved had allegedly been researching phone contracts prior to the attack.

Moral of the story, get a real dog!

I'd say that would be scarier than some people might imagine. Feral ones would obviously be a lot more aggressive as well. I think some of those cats breed with wildcats, which would make them bigger and even more vicious. Some of the commentators on here might be underestimating these cats. A bigger, more aggressive dog probably would have scared them off but do we really need more people with powerful dogs they can't even handle or look after? Single women are the worst culprits for that. They're getting akitas, bullmastiffs and other powerful breeds and half the time they don't even walk them or look after them properly. The whole macho dog thing is getting out of hand IMO.

I completely agree with you up to this point.
People underestimate the power of packs of animals, and people underestimate the aggressiveness of hungry animals and feral cats have zero trust in humans whereas domestic cats will rely on humans to a certain degree - for food, affection and companionship.

    But, then you say this....
A bigger, more aggressive dog probably would have scared them off

I don't agree that a bigger dog would have deterred a pack of feral, hungry cats that either so hungry they attacked a human, moreso than the dog. (she had a torn artery, the dogs injuries weren't mentioned, just that he was treated). I think it's far more likely the cats were infected with rabies, a virus that attacks the brain and infected animals are extremely aggressive and prone to attack anything it encounters. Feral cats by their nature, while they can be far more aggressive than human cats are usually very wary of human interaction at all.
but do we really need more people with powerful dogs they can't even handle or look after?

Not all large dogs are owned by people who don't train or handle their dogs properly. You're making an assumption that this woman couldn't handle a dog based on the fact that she was attacked by cats. It doesn't state what type of poodle the woman was handling so you're just assuming (along with other ill informed posters) that she must have had a toy poodle. A standard poodle is a fairly large and robust dog, similar in size to a labrador or golden retriever. But sure why let facts get in the way of assumption.
Single women are the worst culprits for that. They're getting akitas, bullmastiffs and other powerful breeds and half the time they don't even walk them or look after them properly.

    :eek::eek:

I would love to see the statistics you have to back up this outrageous statement. Because you must have statistics or facts to back it up, it can't be from observations you've made yourself. Think about what you're saying here....

You must know that these women (of whom you must know a sizeable amount to make a blanket assumption) are all single?? What do you do? Go up and interview them 'blind date' style??

And then you must see them out walking their dogs to know that they have them. But...no wait, "half the time they don't even walk them". Do you stalk these single women and know exactly when they walk their dogs? Even if you had a couple of neighbours or friends who you knew to be single and didn't walk their dogs it's still complete speculation and a ridiculous assumptive statement to make.

If you saw me out, you might assume I was single as my partner doesn't walk with me a lot of the time. I walk all kinds of dogs. My own two are medium/large dogs but I also walk GSDs, huskies, weimeraners, greyhounds...plenty of big dogs (don't get me started on the assumption that because it's a big dog, it must be aggressive or powerful, some of the dogs I look after are the biggest babies:o)
The whole macho dog thing is getting out of hand IMO.

So these single women want to be macho now? I think you're 'sort of' on the right tangent here. Northern breeds such as huskies/malamutes, akitas, and mastiff breeds such as the dogue de bordeaux have become popular with people who like to consider themselves 'hard men'. These breeds have replaced pitbulls etc to a certain degree, so it's only a matter of time before they appear on the restricted breed list.

Odd behavior from the cats. Unlike dogs(and us) cats will rarely try to take down prey larger than themselves and while cats do have loose neighbourhood associations rarely will they cooperate like this.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.
