I'd love to understand the reason for it but perhaps it's taking a while for the dated idea that women don't get sexual pleasure and we're only here to procreate. Some people still have the view that women don't enjoy sex as much as men and don't need that "release" like men, which, speaking for myself at least, is rubbish. I know I need that release as much as any man or I'll get very cranky.

When I was young, I already heard plenty about male **** but nothing about female masturbation. When I started (maybe when I was about 12, I suppose), I felt like I was doing something very wrong and I had that idea right up to my late teens, early twenties. It was never talked about thus never normalised. I'd no idea other girls did it because no one discussed it. Everyone probably presumed THEY were the weirdo. My own friends would be open-minded but I don't think I've discussed it with any of them bar my best mate.

I don't particularly want to go into heavy discussions about it but it would've been nice to at least know others were at it instead of feeling like the horrible, sinful weirdo I did when I did it.

I'd love to see it being talked about and joked about and normalised like **** because it was a huge part of discovering what I liked and didn't like when it actually came to sleeping with someone. And now I do it even though I'm living with a willy (;)) because sometimes it's actually preferable and I enjoy it and it's a completely natural, normal part of being human (although it didn't feel like it for me for years).
