40k miles per year is a lot! I'm no fan of diesel but if I did mileage like that, I would probably go diesel too. That said, the 9-5 petrol is frugal enough on longer spins. I did nearly 40MPG on a 3 day trip to Wexford recently. You'd only get 25MPG in Dublin traffic though...

The joy of being the only one in the family who drives, everyone sorta pays for the fuel equally haha, plus mpg doesn't really bother me, I may come take a look if you don't mind?

    You're very welcome, of course I don't mind :)

If things go to plan, I'll put the car up for sale on Monday night. I'll post right in here as soon as any ad is up...

I'm going to go ahead and post my own car here! Good shape, low mileage, Cosmos Blue 156 with NCT 2/14.

    Looks a beauty, GLWS.

As a word of advice I would take the VIN number off the ad. Never know what could be done with that info in the wrong hands. (Cloning etc)

    I'd post more photos. I think it's either 8 or 9.
Show one of the engine bay (alfa engine bays are a work of art!:) )
Also post a photo of the receipts and service (very rare with Alfa's.)

Also mention when the timing belt was done. I know you've mentioned what mileage, but mention the date as well.

They need to be done every 36k miles or every 3 years, whichever is first on the twin sparks and if it was done in the last year it may speed up the sale. At the moment it could have been done last year or 5 years ago, I don't know.

Has it had an suspension work done recently.
    Wishbones, bushings etc.
    when were the sparks replaced?

I bought the same year v6 156 last month for 1800, so you should get close to your asking.

Also throw her up on alfaowner if you're a member.
If i was looking for one tomorrow, itd be on there that Id be looking at/doing a nosy to see if the owner was an enthusiast or not.

Also mention if the variator has been done and water pump :)
As mentioned already mention that those points have/havent been done.
Never had a 1.6 but I heard that they arent that bad for 120bhp

The 3.2 or 2.5? :D Wouldn't have been the red one by any chance would it?

If it passes test no issues and some tax on it, its not too bad. Could probably be got for €250.

    The 2.5
Lovely engine but may be tempted to throw in a 3.2 in a while. At the moment the 2.5 has plenty of power:D Beats a polo anyway.

Nah, i knew to stay away from that one. It needed loads of work done apparently, never had a belt change and was out of nct for 9 months.
Its back up for sale already. Id guess it was sold for 700ish, but anyone on the lookout for a v6 156 will know to stay away.
If it drops to 500 I may become interested.

I bought this one of Pat down in wexford.
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=85636351&postcount=6732

She has a stainless steel catback fitted to her, timing belt done in february, clutch done last year, new metal impeller water pump, 6 new ngk spark plugs, new trw wishbones and gta springs. Also got two zender side skirts as well thrown in.

May pollybush her in the future when that needs doing, along with konis and eibachs. Not a sound out of the suspension at the moment!:)

I drove 166mans 156 which is a 1.6 before I bought mine and it wasnt bad. In fact going down to wexford to buy her, I was wondering why the hell I wanted a v6.
Driving it after having had mine for a month and it feels slow:D
But still a lot faster than many other 1.6's out there

Alfas have always managed to pull that off. I remember the Suds in the 70s having 85BHP or so out of a 1.3. No one else came close. I guess it's to do with the old Italian tax system (same as here, bigger engines are heavily taxed)

    More like it. Haha

They're happy little engines though, those Twin Sparks. They make a good noise too.

I'll just leave this here, if I had a spare 1950 I'd be all over this

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/saab-93-viggen-rare/5369414

Aaagh jaysus, have been on the lookout for one of those for a couple of years now, however the timing is crap so I won't be taking that one :(

very rarely do they actually come up for sale. If it's not an absolute money pit to get roadworthy, someone will bag themselves a bargain.

Okay - I know its a Vectra  etc etc.

But this could be a nice enough family saloon if it checks out okay.

That interior is vile, was it taken direct from an Ascona?

I've been out to that garage to look at cars, a lot of their stock looks a lot rougher in the flesh than in the pictures.

Well that's true - the car certainly mightn't be all that nice in the flesh hence why I said "if it checks out okay" or words to that effect.

I suppose some people mightn't like the interior - but I like it - mainly because its not black - ive got a big dislike of the modern trend towards black interiors.

In any case lots of people wouldn't be bothered about the interior - its a Vectra so they won't even look at it :D

Interior wouldn't bother me so much. I don't think its the nicest interior but its not the most offensive I've ever seen either. I know some people have a major hang up on what the interior of a car looks like. Priorities and all that though, when spending less than €2,000 on a car the main thing is that its mechanically reasonably sound.

Having said that I don't think that Vectra represents good value. No mention of tax or test so one can assume it has neither or if it does have any very little. Otherwise if it did I would consider it a very basic school boy error for a dealer not to omit these details. Mileage is creeping up too at over 140k miles.

This one is a year newer. Much less mileage (assuming he is reading it correctly at 130k kilometres and not 130k miles). Approx 6 months NCT and 8 months tax. Most likely has the more universally appealing black interior too. Asking €1,200. Shame about the lack of pics and poor spelling though and I would think his swap price is high relative to his asking price....how do these guys come up with these figures....

I would think the year he marked in is a mistake at least. The newer model was on the go in 2010 if not earlier... Maybe Mazda did manufacture both models simultaneously for a spell though as some manufacturers tend to do so at times

Alfas need maintenance and looking after, unless you're prepared for that and a few niggly little faults then forget it.

I bet the belt hasnt been done and at that mileage you would seriously want it changed plus the pump and possibly the variator

Oops sorry about that :( - seem a couple of Vectra 1.8s and one of them had NCT etc - got them mixed up - sorry.

Can't stand em and yes I have driven one and had the displeasure of being in one.

Handles like a boat, awful interior, quite slow and seriously heavy on juice. So you're getting all the bad points for the sake of a jacked up hatchback thingy.

    I don't like em! :D
