I think Coleman and Bradshaw should be kept well away from this team tbh, precisely because it seems to be shaping into an actual "team" at last. And as well anyone that gets sent off two weekends in a row for county and club can't be relied upon anyway. I don't think they'd get a starting place now anyway.
I'm certainly not GOD's biggest fan at CB but he stuck with them after the hammering which must mean something.
And as for Coleman, who now could he realistically challenge for a place on the starting team now that midfield has pretty much been solidified? Only other MF challenge is gonna be a fully fit FOC, with Conroy as third midfield or half forward.

Anyway, nice to get a trip to Croke Park with the senior footballers again, looking forward to seeing the young lads get even more space to play with. I do worry what Cork might bring though. Not expecting any miracles but I'd just like them to show that the Armagh win wasn't a flash in the pan.

Delighted to see the footballers getting back to Croke Park again.

While even the most optimistic of us aren't expecting a win, I think by and large a good/competitive performance shall see the majority of Galway fans satisfied.

However I hope the team are going up with full intentions to win, at the end of the day we're 3 in the roll of honour for All-Irelands.
Getting to the last round of qualifiers and going out to Cork shouldn't be viewed as a successful year.
I've always believed that Galway at their worst should still be no lower than a 8-12 ranked team based on our population.
Granted compared to the last 12 it's one of the better ones, but I'd at least like to see a marker set down for next season(which a win against Armagh doesn't set).
Usually a team comes out of nowhere one season with a big performance or two, and they push on that bit more the following season.

I think this team will only get stronger as time goes on, as I firmly believe this years U21s had more of the type of players we're lacking at present(good ball winners in HF/HB who will take hits to win breaking ball).

Looking back on the Wexford league game, the main issue which carried over to the Mayo game was a lack of organisation more than a lack of talent(compared to the previous 12 years). This is something that can be ironed out in the short term, and maybe the evidence of that came to the fore last weekend.

I think Galway people may be being a bit over optimistic (okay understandable I guess after 3 wins on the bounce)

But really there is no way Cork will be beaten by Galway in Croke Park.

Cant see how anyone can see anything but a comfortable Cork victory.

Fair play to Galway on getting back to Croke Park, but the year is ending for Galway on Saturday, no doubt about that, hope they put in a good performance though, they (and Connaught football) are better than they are being given credit for.

I never understand how people can give such definite opinions on here regarding sport, monaaghan have no chance v Donegal, Dublin hurlers have no chance against KK in the replay, etc. It's sport, anything can happen.

Cork are justifiably big favourites but to say there is no way they will be beaten is just silly.

Won't be televised anyway, AFAIK they are only permiitted to show one game from each round of the qualifiers, and they have already announced they are showing Tyrone v Meath.
tis confirmed to be shown on Premier sports for anyone with a UK sky box or online in UK/ Europe (for the princely sum of 9.99Stg a month)
    http://www.premierplayer.tv/schedule

Hoping that the London Cavan game might also get added to the billing.

It'd be a bigger shock than any of them games you have mentioned

I think Monaghan beating Donegal would be about equivalent, pretty much nobody gave them a prayer.

If not a bigger upset was Galway v KK in Leinster final last year, Galway were 7-1 after being beaten by 20 odd points in the league by KK.

Anyway the point remains the same, it's possible (albeit unlikely) Galway will win Saturday.

I am a Cork fan,and like a lot of Cork fans give Galway a chance, and regard Saturday as a potential banna skin.

I see the bookies have Cork as huge unbackable favourites,I do not see the logic myself.

It depends which team Counihan picks. If he picks he's own team,a team of old reliables and more athletes than natural footballers, and plays Key players like Aidan Walsh at Centre forward we could be in trouble.

If Cork picked the right team,we would win,as we have more expierence, and better players in key positions, but the word is CC is going to pick a team, built on power, and slow lateral hand passing and try and run through the centre.

The confidence Cork fans have in this management is very little to be honest, and i don't think their will be a big crowd their ,with the hurling on Sunday also,so the atmsophere won't be as daunting for a young Galway team.

At any grade,Galway have always beaten, and put it up to Cork,so Galway have a better chance than people think.

I'm not just talking Galway up for the sake of it,the fact remains Cork have out grown Counihan, and the confidence can't be good after Killarney.

This Cork team is in decline under current management and has been for some time.

Anyone planning on going to both games the weekend?? Am considering it myself but it's an awful expense. May just go to Thurles, haven't been there in a while.

debating going to both days but its a lot! I will definitely head to the football in Croke Pk and take in the 3 games. 2 more hurling matches on the Sunday is a lot to take in! But then, that hurling double header looks really really good.....

Yea the Kilkenny-Cork match is swinging it for me, no way will Cork roll over for Kilkenny, expecting a fierce dual between the two. I am more of a football man but if I go to Croker I'm looking at the 7.35 train home, which will be tight if there's extra time in our game or the game before. London-Cavan isn't that appealing, so tbh I'm still quite torn. Would love to be able to do both and not have to worry about the cash!

Will you offer me odds on Galway seeing as they're complete no hopers?

    Yup cant wait.

I wouldnt miss a football game for the world but Ive really enjoyed following the hurlers over the last couple of years and am looking forward to Sunday just as Sat. Would be great to go into race week with one or other winning. Can understand the big expense for some though, especially those with families.

I know well what odds they are. That is marginated bookies prices. You think Galway are complete no hopers, so i'm wondering if your willing to back that up and offer me a price and bet. It's free money for you after all surely?

Hitting the M6 to Dublin Saturday morning for the football and then the M7/M8 to Thurles on Sunday morning, more than likely with a cloigeann tinn : )
nothing beats being there : )
A Galway hurling and football double this weekend is around 11/1. Worth a tenner!!!!

Don't have to funds to do two matches and Race Week sadly so the hurlers lose out this time. Heard there's a supporters bus heading up but it'll miss the Cavan London game though. Think it was the Taaffe's bus. Anybody know any other supporters buses going for all 3 matches?

Is there something wrong with you? Whats with the thick 'tone' in your posts? Its only a discussion about football!

I just take issue with lines like these...

"But really there is no way Cork will be beaten by Galway in Croke Park.

Cant see how anyone can see anything but a comfortable Cork victory."

and I was just probing to see if I could wrangle odds currently greater than whats on offer. There's always a chance, otherwise that 2/11 Cork wouldnt be on offer. Galway don't have much chance (about 20% to qualify imo), but to maintain there's no way we will win is wrong.

Anyway, you don't see how anyone can see anything but a comfortable Cork victory. What constitutes a comfortable Cork victory? 7-8 points plus? I think Galway will keep it to less than that. But we'll see I suppose

6+ points would be comfotable, of course depending on how the game goes ie it could be close for 50 mins and one could pull away at the end, I dont think Cork will be troubled much

If you want to see Sam west of the Shannon again you'll have to wait for Galway to do it

At the minute Pappa Charlie it looks like Mayo have a better chance than Galway?

    No!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,249 ✭✭✭MaroonAndGreen

    No!

Why not? Lots would have Mayo in the top 3 or 4 teams at the moment.

Is this a matter of you not thinking Mayo can, or not wanting them to?

Anyway this is the Galway thread, lets not intrude with Mayo talk :P

I doubt Mayo's ability to get over the final hurdle until they finally do it, but on football ability alone they're a very strong contender for the All Ireland.

Anyway, Same team named for Saturday again. I'm hoping Donal O'Neill can produce a fine display again, and become that sticky physical corner back that every team needs. Excellent display on Clarke, although it's unlikely another referee will let so much go, so he may have to adapt very early on. Hopefully the referee is given sufficient study

For the same reason you don't think Galway can beat cork, I'd love to see them win it but their supporters remind me of the England soccer supporters and media, they sicken everyone with their ****e once they win a few games, they over hype their team and slam them when they fail. I see no World Cup for England and no all Ireland for mayo anytime soon.

So you just think Dublin, Kerry etc are better?

No need for your ****e talk about Mayo fans..

And btw if you thought I was having a go at Galway, I wasnt, I like to see both counties do well and have connections with both counties!

    Hence my username, MaroonAndGreen.

    Maroon = Galway
    Green = Mayo
