I agree on the second one for sure. I know plenty of Muslims who'd condemn this, so I think you're being quite unfair in that respect when saying Islam should be kept away. Dubai and the UAE aren't even democratically elected Governments, so you can't really say they represent Muslims as a whole.

Dubai is built on slavery and staffed by near or actual slave labour. I wouldn't support an economy that profits from exploitation on that scale by giving them my tourist dollars.

Cases like this just harden my resolve. The only way this kind of thing can be combated is by hitting them hard in the pockets until they realise that international standards of acceptable justice and behaviour are the only things that'll make it a popular destination again.

That's why people have to take the initiative, because governments won't.

If Westerners boycotted it as a ex-pat or tourist destination, if they lost the expertise and the holiday money and the rose-tinted reviews, things would change. Governments can stay as silent as they want to. The people don't have to, if they care enough.

Westerners emigrate there as the wages on offer are exceptional. They normally plan to work there for a year or two, save some cash and return home with enough to put down a large deposit. Westerners are treated much better out there than lads from the Indian subcontinent and fellow impoverished arabs. They are treated and paid horribly.
