For those that play in Junior Scratch Cups, do you often see players out of the handicap range playing in the competition.

To answer this question : yes. And you play off the maximum allowed handicap of 9/10/whatever it is.

However, your entry to the comp will depend on the club in hand. Most places wont mind, but some could be sticklers for it.

I'd say chance your arm going for it and see what they say. They worst they can say is no :)

Ahh, that makes sense, so all the 22 handicappers play in the intermediate do they? I was wondering where they they found themselves.

Forrest Little Junior scratch cup on the 28th of july, 36 holes

As far as I'm aware this weekend in Cork you have junior scratch cups in Cobh, Macroom, Mallow, Rafeen Creek, Charleville. Shame that so many are clashing!
Add in also that Kilkarney is in which would be attractive to the Cork crowd

Will the Grange golf club scratch cup on Friday be played on the short course layout ?

Last year it was played over it

Just rang to enquire and yes the Grange Senior and Junior Scratch Cup will be played over the original short course, holes 1-18. Have the day off so going to play in this also as it's another course I've yet to play and have been hearing good things. Plenty of free slots on the timesheet still which is probably what you get for holding a double scratch cup midweek.

two par 3s to start, or finish, depending on whether they kick off from the 1st or 3rd so... always found that a bit wierd

Not at €50, overpriced for a scratch cup in my book even if it is 36 holes with a light lunch.
Poor value when you compare it to the like of Carlow and Lucan which were both €30 for 36 holes with a lunch included and the lunch in Carlow was very good.

not sure if this is a joke post or a serious one so I'll give it the serious answer :)

22 handicappers would be playing in Minor Scratch Cups which typically extend from 19-28 handicap.

Of course, they "could" play in an intermediate if they wanted and play off a handicap of 18 for the nett prize, but again, like I said in my previous post, it depends on the club they are applying to play in :)

Playing junior scratch in Killeen Killarney. Can't really find a course guide anywhere besides the general stuff on their website . Anything to watch out for in particular?

Stay left on the first and no more than a hybrid required for first tee shot as you don't want to be taking on the hazard.

Second hole is a dogleg right with which you have to turn the ball left to right if you want to play driver, otherwise hit hybrid/3wood to short of trees.

It really is a drivers course, try and pick up a stroke saver in the shop as there are some hazards/trees/OOB on a lot of tee shots.

Most of all enjoy it, it's a cracking course!

It was serious alright Ricky, thanks for answering. You don't see too many minors, that's why I was asking!

18 unlikely to require a driver if fairways are running fast. Par 3s are the key, only the 2nd could be described as straightforward. Extremely important to stay below the hole on the back 9 holes, especially the par 3s. Great course, will be sorry to miss Friday.

Few pictures here on Kevin Markham's Flickr account.

I'm playing too on Saturday, looking forward to it.

Anyone played there recently? I heard that the standard of the course has dropped a bit, hopefully I'm wrong.

The weather is helpding, grass a bit burnt in places but green are running good. Bit of advise, keep it in the fairway. Rough is tough to get out of.

The senior scratch was there last weekend, so would have been in great shape for that I presume

Yeap sums it up nicely. Keep it in play and below the hole. Greens I expect will be lightening quick.

There is very few holes where you need to take driver.

What time are you out in Killarney? I'm down for 9.38. Played there yesterday evening and the place has improved a lot since the changes etc. Played it off the blues too which made it more of a challenge. It's a great test off the back sticks, very enjoyable. I presume it will be off the white stone on Saturday though. Looking forward to it
