Mens Clothes Have Gone Crap.

Surely i'm not the only one to notice the crap that passes for clothes lately, both in terms of quality and style.

I still have items of clothing from "back in the day" i.e about 10 years ago that are still relatively fine.Although i do use these for the likes of work rather than day to day wear.

But lately,i'm lucky to get about 4 wears out of t-shirts and the likes, and i don't mean penneys t-shirts,but actual esteemed branded t-shirts.I wear my fair share of budget t-shirts,but i expect to get a short span out of these so i don't mind the loss of 5 euro or so.But the t-shirts that are about 25-50 euro should last a bit longer, but generally don't.

Style wise,i fear for the future of man.I can't seem to find clothes that aren't either M&S old man clothes or pink t-shirts with a 70's shot of the miami skyline plastered on the front. What ever happened to normal clothes that fit well, last a while and aren't going to make my testosterone disappear?.

Jumpers are bleedin shite too these days.

Topman can kiss my balls too.

    Clothing style changes.

High heels were originally invented for men.

How insecure can you be to think that clothes will make your testosterone disappear?

Uhh... brand stuff is the same as Penneys, you just pay more to have an A&F or Topman logo on the front. I'm surprised that some people aren't bright enough to realise that.

There's style changing and then there's bullshit.

200,000 years of civilisation and it was badly hanging tee shirts that brought us down.

Who could have seen it coming?

Wtf do you do with your clothes that you only get 4 wears out of them? Seriously

What are you doing with them that you're only getting a month out of them ?

Yes quality has gone to hell across the board in womens and mens clothes but I haven't found anything decent price ready for the bin after a month really.

The necks either collapse or they just go totally out of shape.

    Always washed cold too.

I agree with the OP to an extent but there are brands and then there are brands. A lot of the mass-market brands are pure muck.

You can get decent gear in the following...but don't expect any bargains, particularly in the first two:

wrong. i have A&F clothes that are extremely good quality. i guess it comes down to each item. people just like to hate on them

Pennys isn't the worst, they have a terrible shape/fit to their clothes, but yes they are way better than Topman quality for a quarter of the price

Clearly you can't tell the difference in quality between A&F and Penneys. They are WORLDS apart. I've a A&F hoodie that's 6 years old, hasn't faded or stretched at all, whereas anything from Penneys would disintegrate within a year.

I'm 33 and it's getting harder for me to find dignified clothes. Basically if I can't find what I want in H&M or Penney's im cockboxed.

I recently bought a bunch of Fruit Of The Loom t-shirts from Play.com. Just over 4 eur each delivered and good quality. Buy a size up, they can a little tight.

Rubbish .. I have a few hoodies and shorts that I bought in Penneys and still have them after 6 years.

I have some other brand stuff that just fell apart.

The quality just isn't there, thin tshirts and overall poorer quality and they just don't last as long in my experience. Anyone who throws down an A&F or similar clothing a lot of the time haven't even bought one thing off them.

Sure there's a markup in branded clothing but there's a massive difference between a branded shirt and a cheap one from Penneys, you can see it, but most importantly you can feel it.

As far as clothes go, I take it you're 30+ OP and styles change. I find clothes hard to find because I'm fussy and I'm not into the more common skinny jeans look, but there's still good clothes to be found that'll still look well. But it's undeniable that you get what you pay for.

Mens fashion hasn't been the same since suits of armour went out of fashion. A t shirt is just never going to excite like a face plate and a broadsword.

I find most shirts t shirts aren't long enough, and they shrink really easily, or I'm doing the washing machine wrong.

This is completely incorrect, Penney's is poor quality, washes poorly, fits poorly (if you're not a hanger shape) and generally smells like crap after a while. I'm not saying you have to buy A&F and there's definitely a premium for branding but some clothes makers are better than others.

It's like saying a Dacia is the same as an Audi, but people aren't bright enough to realise the difference.

I agree with the OP. I have a few Timberland t-shirts that just expand horizontally and shrink vertically and end up looking more like belly tops than t-shirts. A tommy hilfiger jeans that just fell apart, even though it did fit well in fairness, Adidas hoody that faded and went all rough after a few months, the list goes on. And these were bought in reputable shops, not online from hong kong or something. And all Nike stuff is sh1t.

Meanwhile, Penneys stuff mostly lasts well and does the job for a fraction of the price. Dunnes used to be basic quality but cheap but now is just basic and expensive.

I think men's fashion lost the plot when they brought in pink shirts, man bags and sarongs. That's fine if you are a judge on Americas next top model but we are not all homosexuals.

Nike trainers smell like crap after wearing once. Dog crap to be precise.

    This.

The inside of an A&F / Hollister hoodie keeps that fluffy "new hoodie" feeling for aaages, so nice. No stretching or anything either.

You can feel it in their t-shirts too, so much more durable! Comparing them to Pennys clothes is misinformed!

I have to laugh when you walk into some H&Ms or even Forever 21 and you find the mens section buried in the corner with a couple of tshirts and a few tops and the womens section about a thousand square metres, i really find it difficult to buy clothes, a lot of friends of mine are starting to buy on places like ASOS/Littlewoods etc, im sick of walking in and out of shops and not seeing something decent.

With regarding quality, i find some penneys stuff do last but sometimes an lose shape pretty quickly, havent been able to afford much more than penneys lately though :(

Them designer jeans don't last p*ssing time. Levi's FTW.
Wranglers are for country and western listeners and farmers.

The gear in River Island is a bit...strange

Yes, I love this mentality that because a tshirt doesn't cover your beer belly and won't match your boot cut jeans these days that men's clothes and fashion have gone to f*ck. There are loads of clothes that look well that won't have you looking like a homosexual, these are clothes more geared towards men in their 20's, not the 30 year old boot cut wearing lads who have a bad beer:exercise ratio which is more common here.

But of course, if you're not that balding lad in the pub with a belly and timberland boots, you've more testosterone because you don't wear anything that looks well, instead of the lads in their 20's who are generally in better shape and dress better to suit that.

I remember buying two t shirts at the same time, one barely lasted a month the other lasted years.

Any t shirt with badges or lettering sewn to it seems to disintegrate quicker.

No,it's not about cut-boot jeans and cross hatch t-shirts.It's more about the crap like this everywhere.

These would be my examples of nice clothes, fashionable and not entirely gay.

I agree, especially the mesh ones, though it tends to happen with Nike's that aren't taken care of properly or left to get damp.
Worked in a sports store when I way younger worst runners "smell" wise I say were apair of Adidas A3 (their equivalent to Shox) they stunk from the first wash.
I often find they smell like catpee though (similar smell to Penny's cardigans for girls).
