    Just because the lead singer's parents are Irish doesn't make it an Irish band, nor does it make Morrissey Irish.

    I'm not so sure that Morrissey would choose to be one of us. Remember that controversy early in his solo career where he was pictured waving a Union Jack and singing some borderline racist lyrics.




    I love the Smiths BTW.

    they are related through Robbie’s grandfather Thomas Nolan who was Morrissey’s father’s cousin

    And Robbies family did not think this was important info to share with him! He only found out when Morrissey told him a few months ago.

    Look After Hours, The Smiths/ Morrissey are the best thing ever, Everyday going home I listen to the new tripe that's played on the radio and gladly switch over to the Smiths.

    There is no Maher in The Smiths. :confused:

    EDIT: Actually, it seems Johnny Marr was born as John Martin Maher. Regardless, calling them an Irish band and then trying to further that point is a bit weird, considering they clearly aren't. Unless you're being facetious.

    I love The Smiths, and Morrissey is the most consistently good performer I've ever seen. Most people I know (friends, family, partner) scoff at my love of them and him, but I don't care.

    I love the production values of that whole album! I can't wait to see Johnny Marr at Electric Picnic.

    They toured the old showband circuit here so respect due. Oases claimed to be manc irish but never went out on a limb like that, whilst draped in u know what.
