Another year, another "Wasn't WIT Students" statement from WITSU.

Good to see that WIT Students are the angels and those pesky students from other parts of the country that descend onto Waterford are the devils!

Lads just read on The Waterford News and star about WIT students lending a hand to the old folks of Francis Court Larchville.

    Credit where credit is due.

why dont the residents find out who owns the houses and then make the lives of the landlords an absolute misery?? That's what i would do..

One of my friends owns house on Templars Hall. Met him a couple months ago, and he said three students left his house and they were his best tenants cause he had to repaint only two rooms, install new electric shower, new toilet, and new table and chairs in the kitchen. He was really happy and described it as a minimum damage.

There ya go. Why dont ya make his life hell?

Must be great to come from a generation that never did anything wrong / enjoy themselves.

    Sounds like someones just jealous.

We did many things wrong and enjoyed ourselves, but always with a respect to other people, their properties or belongings. And that's only thing i expect from young people.

This is horrible to see. Students acting like this. Gives a bad name to decent students. Of course, WIT students are the ones involved. Who else would be around Waterford city during WIT's ragweek!! I am a student myself and am utterly ashamed of these and I ain't a fan WITSU who add turning a blind eye to this attrocious behavior to their list of poor practice.

Rag week is a great event and raises funds for charities. Great entertainment like comedy from Neil Delamere and music from a varied list of bands along with drink promotions should be enjoyed by the decent students. We need to come up with a way to deal with thuggery without curbing enjoyment for good students.

From the group of people I drank and went out with all week, only half are WIT students.

What if the WIT introduced some sort of strike system, so that if a student stepped out of line (ie. a law is broken) too many times, letters would go home to mammy and daddy, and then credits or marks may be removed and ultimately expulsion may occur.

That way the WIT is not directly responsible for any damage they incur but that it can help discipline someone along with any Gardai punishment.

Im sorry but that's hilarious .. Students are Adults, If a parent tries to get information off a lecturer about a student the lecture is by law not allowed to disclose any information. "A letter home to mammy and Daddy " ?? seriously.... Adults are adults if they do wrong it should be addressed by the gaurds, because what they do in their private lives is perfectly up to them, I've been living in Templers since last november and appart from some disturbances on WITmas have had absolutley no problem with any student living there. Stop whinging. Templers is not a horrible place to live

Glad you found my post so funny. The letter to mammy and daddy was a light dig at the students who aren't acting like adults. My post was merely my contribution to the discussion, I'm not 'whinging', I have no dealings with Templars Hall whatsoever.

Btw, you're right, the troublemakers SHOULD be dealt with by the law, but that's not happening, hence the alternative recommendations.

It had nothing to do with hindsight at all. I wasn't the only person thinking what a nightmare that place was going to turn into.

A friend of mine moved in there with his young family at the beginning, he moved just over a couple of years later, stating that he "would end up in jail" if he lived there any longer. Seemingly he had a couple of run in's with some of the students, they learnt to stay away from him after that, but he said the constant parties and noise, he said that they had trouble sleeping.

Adults alright but do you think they are the ones paying the rent?

Yes, most parents these days Don't have money to pay for a mortgage on their own house aswell as send someone off to college, I'm actually a student myself, and every penny that goes into my rent is scraped together by myself and the vast majority of friends I have in WIT do the same. Don't make assumptions about things you have little information about. There's a very small pool of students that behave in the manner described throughout this thread, and as adults the way they get reprimanded for this behavior should be between them and the gaurds.

    "very small pool"
So what your saying is that if WIT has a student population of 10000 and even if its just 1% of them are "bad apples" then theres at least 100 tossers acting the maggot every wednesday night and rag week????
if it was happening on an estate on say the dunmore rd area the riot police with water cannons would have been called in!!!

So you're saying that if this kinda thing was happening in an estate where the residents outnumbered the students and not the other way round like templars hall then it wouldn't have been nipped in the bud before it got out of hand?

What about Lismore Park? Mostly residents there and they have problems.

The issue with Templars isn't the numbers. Anti social behaviour is still anti social behaviour and the law is the law. So if it was happening anywhere else, the same actions would be taken.

There was a thread started here by one of our regulars (I won't name who) who had one family in an estate that caused absolute havoc and by all accounts were ever bit as bad if not worse then the students in Templars hall and it took a very long time to get sorted so i dont think its as easy as rolling in and sorting it out.

Exactly, I lived in brownes road for awhile and we got an unbelievable amount of hassel off the locals kids.. 12-15 year olds giving more hastle than the students living there, they burned out bins outside our gates and broke the electronic gates on the place... anti social behaviour happens regardless of who does it and an equal portion of students and other people do it.

100 tossers.. seems about accurate ... now consider the crime rate in waterford?? and those 100 tossers are a very small portion of people.. Add to that, the fact that very few of them are actually around for the summer months.. holidays and weekends.. ?... student's are a very minor issue for waterford

But the thread isnt about Waterford in general, its about Templars Hall and the effects on the residents that have to put up with the behaviour of the students that live there.
I lived down there for 5 years and my ex partner and daughter still live down there.i saw it all down tru those years, guys and girls pi55ing and puking in gardens, broken bottles everywhere, rubbish everywhere, fights, shouting and screaming at all hours, couldnt drive to work one morning cos some idiot parked in my driveway and boxed me in,my daughter was terrified when hearing all the screaming and couldnt sleep.i used to pray for rain on wed nights so it might keep them indoors so she could get some sleep.the list is endless......
Students are a minor issue for waterford but they are a huge issue for those residents in Templars Hall.

Not with riot police and water cannons.

If there was a sale in templars hall like there was in meadowbank what price would u say is an attractive price and how many families would be happy to move into templars hall, in fairness there seems to be things getting better and a lick of paint here and there on the outside at least.
