Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Tried that, but for some reason the Garmin Lifetime Updater only gives me the option to install straight to device.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,884 ✭✭✭101sean

When you open Lifetime Updater click on settings button on bottom left. Select Installation on the sub menu and click on the Install to Computer Only button. Or is this what doesn't show up for you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,744 ✭✭✭kleefarr

It shows up, I get the three options, but it won't let me change them.
Anyway, I saved the map from the temp folder and have loaded the UK & Ireland part via the Mapinstall thingy. Have checked and it says that I am using the Uk and Ireland 2012.40 so must be ok. :)

Looks a bit funny though, not much detail.

I've never used that junction myself, but comparing the layout on 2013.10 with OSM, they look the same, and OSM is usually pretty up to date.

2013.40 now available. You need to use Garmin Express to update.

Why do they insist on messing with the update software? I can see no way of downloading the complete map set, as it only offers me the chance to update UK & Ireland, as there's not enough room on the basic device's memory. With the old Map Updater I usually downloaded, and locally installed (for use in Basecamp) the whole map set, and then separately installed UK & Ireland to the main memory and the rest to the SD card using MapInstall, but I can't see any option to do that there. Grrrr.

EDIT: Uninstalled that pile of junk and currently downloading using good old Map Updater 3.2.2

Did that work for you Alun?
Do you have a link to Map Updater 3.22 ?

    Thanks

    Yes, worked fine

    http://download.garmin.com/lmu/GarminMapUpdater.exe

Strangely, reading various forums, there seem to be some people who do get the options to install different regions, and the option to install to PC as well when using Garmin Express

I have "Full coverage of Europe (2013.30)" downloaded, but now its telling me the download available is "Western Europe (2013.40)" I'd prefer to download the full coverage map as that's the subscription I've got, not just Western Europe.

Is this the same for everyone?

Downloading 2013.40 at the moment using MapUpdater 3.12
This overcame problems with DotNet4 Client.
I got the option of all or various European regions

Aha. I was going through the Lifetime Updater, not Map Updater 3.2.2. Now installing all maps of Europe to PC, and Western Europe to my nulink 1695 with Map Updater.

Sometimes the persistence pays off. Even with TomTom I have to keep pusing the same errors over & over. But they get done...;)

Well there's just a screenshot of three I reported last in August 2010 - no action on any.

No 3 that you can see there is the worst. I've been reporting since 2006/7, a third of the island is missing. You think you're driving across the sea.

Every map in the world except Navteq/Garmin seems to have it right .

You get a free update if your garmin has been active for less than 60 days.
If not, you can buy a single update for about €50 or unlimited updates for about €85. Just search amazon for "Garmin Lifetime Update"

Is it safe to buy updates from sites other than the Garmin site , eg MemoryC Amazon etc?

Like the previous poster said, it was to correct a problem that was detected in 2013.40 where some of the one-way streets in the Netherlands had accidentally been turned the other way around. Nothing else has changed as far as I'm aware.

    Hi Everyone.
I purchased Garmin Nuvi 50 last month, and looked up map updating now.
My device says it has CN Europe NTU 2013.10 maps installed.
When I went to garmin website, and installed Garmin Express, it updated firmware to version 3.50, but it keeps saying that my maps are up to date.
When I enter serial number on the website it says the same.

Why it doesn't want to install 2013.41 version?

    Any info appriciated.
    Thanks.

From what I can gather 2014.10 is a USA map. Certainly not available on Garmin Express or My Dashboard. (Yet!!)

    Question

if i try to search for Rosan Glas in Galway, either by city or by search all , i do not get a result
however, if i drive to it and into the estate it has it on the map, and tells me im driving " on Rosan Glas"

ive double checked the spelling, even done a city search followed by " Ro" yet it wont return a result..Weird

    any thoughts
    on latest 2014.10

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,487 ✭✭✭✭Alun

The name of the street actually contains a fada, i.e. Rosán Glas, maybe that's messing up the searching? If you search in BaseCamp, even zoomed in on the street itself and tell it to search near the centre of the map it doesn't find it either, even if you include the fada, but if you just enter Glas it does, which kind of reinforces my theory.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 844 ✭✭✭eirlink

tks alun, however i thought that too and searched for another address with a fada and it found it...even though i didnt actually type the fada as i could not find out how. ( treid the different keyboards , no avail)

BTW how do you enter a fada?

On the PC, it depends on what language you have your keyboard set to. If it's UK or US English then á is Alt+0225, é is Alt+0233, í is Alt+0237, ó is Alt+0243, ú is Alt+0250.

If it's set to English(Ireland) then just use the AltGr or right Alt-key plus the letter.

On the Garmin, at least mine (nuvi 2545) there's an Alt key on the bottom right, again just hit that and it'll highlight the relevant keys with fadas on them.

Does it make any financial sense to buy updated maps for a 2 year old garmin? Seems like it is better value to just buy a new device that comes with lifetime updates?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 844 ✭✭✭eirlink

tried the alt key and it entered the fada but still no result...weird

must try on the tomtom and see what comes back

tomtom has it in the search....
pity TT dosent have townlands (or has it?) and id consider switching
been a long time on garmin now because of the missing townlands issue, which i was on to them about, plus i find the TT menus and search very finicky

    anyway..

This happens to me on a daily basis. I search place names and the system cant find them. Yet when you drive on them, they are clearly there?? The system has so many flaws . You will probably also find that Navteq misspell loads of places as well which makes the search function useless.
I find the "search all" tab also heavily flawed. It will not find certain streets, but if you use the town name first. It appears.
It makes me wonder how they are considered the leader in GPS tech...

Very unimpressed with mine. My old Nokia was better. I don't find google maps fantastic either on my Android. Love to compare them to a Windows 8 Nokia see if Nokia is still decent.

Unfortunately they have to rely on Navteq for their maps and the search data, and a system like that is only as strong as it's weakest link.

Also the backwards addressing system we have here, especially in the greater Dublin area, with all manner of 'well known' areas and suburbs with no formally defined borders, doesn't exactly help.
