I have thought about this and think I have copped the answer:

The HD channels that aren't in the 'right' place, i.e. BBC2HD, Sky1HD, Sky Living HD, Sky News HD are not regional variant HD channels.

e.g. BBC1HD is Northern Ireland version, BBC2HD is a general English version, so the NI version of BBC2 takes precedent.

This is more subtle on the Sky channels - for advertising purposes there are Irish SD versions of each the above channels, which carry advertising specific to the Irish market. I am presuming there is no HD equivalent Irish version (capacity constraints), therefore the SD version will take precedent on the EPG, hoping that more people will watch that through inertia or whatever.

    Would this be correct??

I think you're right. Also the HD channels that have moved are the HD channels that are available to everyone who has an HD box regardless of their level of subscription. If you don't subscribe to Sky 1 HD for example, you don't want to see it replace the SD version.

Got a call from UPC on a private number this morning about a call out to inspect follow up work?

Is this normal or some sort of scam seeing if I was in or out of the house that day.

Just ring UPC customer care to confirm, if they didn't ring then its a scam

Just curious. UPC said they would give me €110 x2 for testing the Horizon Box for May & June. But I got my May bill & they gave me €90 incl Vat credit. Then nothing for June. Anyone have similar problems? (Besides that - its been great watching the box grow from crap to great in 2 months with all the updates I advised)

Think we got that the first time!!!!! Also it was €90 + €12 to rent 2 ondemand, not 2 x 110:rolleyes:

Hi Rory, it was only a once off credit of €90 credit and an extra €12 credit to enjoy two On Demand movies. They also gave 15 for some errors on their side.

When I got it setup, I only had RTE 1 working then for about another hour, everything else was saying Unsubscribed.

I received my Horizon box today, disconnected the previous set-top box and modem, and set it up as per the instructions.

When eventually the setup process was completed, RTE1 and the Apps worked fine, but all other channels are showing as "Unsubscribed" and the WiFi (laptop and mobile) and Wired Internet (through a Powerline Adapter) are not connecting.

Is it just a case of having to wait a while longer, or has anyone had this issue before? I've reconnected the old modem and can get WiFi through it, but not having TV for the Leinster and Munster Finals tomorrow would kill me. I will try and reconnect the old set-top box if it hasn't rectified itself by tomorrow morning.

From what I have seen of the interface today I do like it.

Try Wired connection not through Powerline Adapter for initial setup when all working then use the Powerline Adaptor
Also on front of horizon box is there any orange lights showing
There must be NO orange lights on after box fully booted up if there is setup of box not done correct
Have you run the network Setup on the box as you have to do this as per user manual instructions

    This happened too me.
After about 3/4hours I'd channels and the next morning I'd Internet.
I was onto customer support about it though.

There was a phone icon on the display on the front of the box, as I hadn't set up the phone just yet. Will try the wired connection in the morning, if it persists.

Thanks, hopefully will have success in the morning. Will get onto Cust Support if not and reply here afterwards in case anyone else has the same problem in the future.

Broadband is working this morning, but still only RTE1 on the TV. Phoned customer support who advised me that I would need to contact the "Installations Team" during business hours. Will leave it until midday today to see if I have any more channels, and if not then I'll try to disconnect the Horizon box and go back to the old TV box for the day.

I'm on the trial for the horizon box. Now I'm moving house and won't be able to get upc in the new place. Am I tied into a 12 month contract on the trial?

Just saw earlier in the thread that I'm not in a contract.

How are people finding the EPG in general now that we've gone through one ( or two??) updates.

Still finding it painfully sluggish. There is just no easy way to find out what is currently on without mashing menu a few times and then painfully scrolling (or not scrolling) through the channels.

Also, maybe it's just me - and I doubt that because I've never been able to work it - but does anyone else have serious problems with typing in channel numbers? It gets the first digit, but then the other two digits are never transmitted to the box.... a real pain because then I have to go back through the slow menu!!

Can anyone forward or rewind using the YouTube app? I can't and it's very annoying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 213 ✭✭KenH

Don't know why the channel numbers are so small/hidden. The logo's look cool and all, but it's not like I can type in a logo to get to the channel.

Mine went back on Saturday also, also don't miss anything at all about it :D UPC will be in deep doodoo if they release it to everyone without serious improvement to the TV side of things.

Yes I am finding still the same fundamental sluggishness of the guide, very slow and then when scrolling, it goes too fast /too slow...

channel numbers is also inconsistent for me to...if I click 101 its sometimes looks like its missing and I press 1s and 0s again and end up getting 111 or other... I basically have to treat it like its stupid and click slowly.

I am wondering if this is to do with the fact that I believe the controller operates on Wifi not infrared?

It works on RF (Radio Frequency), not wifi and the TV on and volume up/down work on IR (Infrared)

Anyone know how to delete scheduled recordings? When I got Horizon first, I put in a recurring recording for Tue nights at 22.30 on Fox, and every week it's in the Planner section of My Recordings. I can't seem to get rid of it.

This is the #1 most painful thing about the entire Horizon experience for me. I could honestly live with everything else if they fixed the remote/sluggish EPG. Having a remote control that is bordering on useless is EXTREMELY frustrating and frequently makes we want to throw the whole system out the window.

Is the remote control to blame at all? Or is it simply the EPG/menu that is the sole cause of the problem with the over the top, completely unnecessary graphics bells and whistles?

Thanks for that, so wonder if RF could be the issue for the sluggishness?
