Don't see the fuss tbh.. they're good friends as well as colleagues. It's not as if he grabbed a random stranger.

    Unprofessional? yes. Grossly inappropriate? no
Are you sure they are good friends? She didn't look overly pleased walking away. EDIT, RTE article doesn't say anything about them being friends.

Can you imagine that happening in a normal office?

Berlusconi has had quite an influence on European parliamentary conduct.

No bother, he was "severely reprimanded". All is well.

Inexplicable behavior from a TD, definitely inappropriate - the guy is married too. I can only think an early hours debate in the Dail bar could explain it.

i never do that; why aren't we so close

After their initially dismissive statement reflected the true attitude to this kind of conduct.

    'Horseplay' apparently.

I expect horseplay from Clare Daly and Michelle Mulherin - at least they're genuine horses.

At that age there's not too much else to look forward to, so an 'aul grope in the Dail is about as good as it gets I'd imagine.

Calling that unprofessional implies that TD's actually act professional most of the time.

Completely inappropriate thing to do,even more so considering the topic that was being voted upon.

It's funny and very predictable to see the same old bunch on here trying to circle the wagons and make little of the incident.

There was some guy on the radio earlier talking about it and he mentioned that they have been friends for years. Although I can't say whether or not he was talking through his arse.

I'm guessing the outcome would depend on a lot more than an angry reaction from a few members of the public. Maybe someone should have asked Mrs. Collins if she was offended or upset in any way by it. I've seen similar things happen in normal workplace environments. There's never usually a problem if both parties take it in good humour.

Would there be such a reaction if two male TDs / work colleagues were joking around and jostling with one another? I doubt there'd be many people claiming it was a gross act of violence in any case.

It's funny to see the Joe Duffy brigade vent their moral outrage about something the woman didn't care about.

Jesus that photo with the Daly and Wallace is like a shot from a scene from Glenroe.

Might say a lot about her so.
And do you think other women might not care?

Drinking while they are working and discussing a very serious issue is a disgrace and it looks bad to anyone that is interested in what is happening in Ireland.
The other incident was unprofessional, stupid, and he obviously forgot about the camera's or he was a little tipsy. I don't know if it matters how well they know each other he should have more cop on tbh and i think she looked a little uncomfortable after the incident.

That's right nothing wrong with an oul struggle cuddle so long as she doesn't complain afterword.

It just goes to show how serious they are really taking a subject where womens lives are up for debate when they can dick around with this kind of mess acting.

    ****ing idiots.

As evidenced by many of the posts on this thread and the callers to liveline earlier
    Podcast here btw - > http://www.rte.ie/radio1/podcast/podcast_liveline.xml

If Mrs Collins was to kick up a fuss about it, she would probably be raked over the coals and we'd have the usual PC GONE MAD schtick.

While I do think this is bordering on good ole boys sexism, I think the bigger issue is the fact that we are having horseplay from our elected politicians in the freakin dail chamber, during a debate on such an important issue. The tragic case of Savita has become/is known worldwide so we do have lots of people looking in to see what the outcome will be.

OK, so thank God for small mercies, in so far as it's not fisticuffs like in Venezuela or bunga bunga parties like in Italy but it is still rather embarrassing. :(

OK so I get that worse stuff goes on in other parliaments around the world.

But still, I feel our elected leaders should be better than this

She may not have cared about engaging in horseplay, but if I'm being asked to contribute to their €90k+ salaries, you're damn right I want to see myself getting better value for money than a scene more suited to a Carry On film in the middle of what's supposed to be a serious discussion on some of the most important legislation in the State's history.

They can do what the fcuk they like in their own time, but when they're on the job, I expect them to do the job they're getting paid to do, not carry on like a pack of incompetent clowns.

I don't usually start threads because I can't express myself very well (Johnny D put my thoughts perfectly earlier on in this thread), but the reason I started this one is because the fcuking comedy of errors displayed in the Dáil last night, from the TD who couldn't figure out the yes button when it had been drilled into him, to the gobshìte antics of the other two (and all the TDs standing around and not one of them budged to fend off "octopus hands"), I was angered by it because it shows the utter contempt that our political representatives have for the laws, the legislation, the future of this country and our society.

If anyone thinks that last night's behaviour was "a bit of a laugh", I'd sooner pay €9 to be entertained in the cinema than €90k to see politicians entertain themselves in the Dáil at my expense.

"Ms Collins apparently said she was ‘freezing’ and Mr Barry joked that he would warm her up, before pulling her on to his lap"

    Stay classy Dáil.

Great if it was the staff Summer party - oh that Tom he's a character and sure Aine doesn't mind aren't they great friends

A bit different in the middle of a debate which they are supposed to make an informed decision on.

They are at work in work
Do you think anyone would get away with this kind of 'banter' in any other workplace in the country?

As to the Dail bar WTF even people who work in bars do not drink whilst working.
It's totally unprofessional and an insult to the constitution and the Irish people that TDs are drinking and acting the fool when they should be working
