Why not just bring him to some famous places?
I mean he's a teenager but depending on what he'd like to do can depend.
Also he's probably not gonna be used to the life of getting hammered.

    hell learn fast enough

O.K. fair enough, but how about asking your wife to do it then?

Seeing as it's Monaghan, can you not just teach him to launder some green diesel and leave him at it? Win-Win, he gets a new experience, you get an untraceableish fall-guy if the Feds come calling. Tell him thats what the expression "50 shades of green" relates to and he needs to work through them all -to white..

Whatever ya do be sure to feed him with copius amounts of schpuds, bacon and cabbage for the fortnight. He might as well get a taste of quality cuisine before he returns to ate that foreign rubbish.

Above all make him feel useful and involved.
When he says "there iz something I can 'elp ?"
Reply "weeel you could put a bit of butter on the spuds Andre"

I don't have a wife, mainly coz Lesbian marriage is not allowed here yet and even more mainly coz I am not a Lesbian.

Monaghan you say... does this French boy like riding hippos? Half-serious question

Q: Can you give me some information about hippo racing in Australia? – USA
A: A-fri-ca is the big triangle shaped continent south of Europe. Aus-tra-lia is that big island in the middle of the Pacific which does not… oh forget it. Sure, the hippo racing is every Tuesday night in Kings Cross. Come naked.

I know its After Hours but keep it clean please!

I have a 15 year old French boy coming to stay with my family for 2 weeks starting on Wednesday and am trying to think of some fun things that we can do with him. I have 15yr and 18yr old sons but they just want to play playstation and get drunk really so they are not much inspiration!

From his fb page he is into rock music (gnr, ACDC etc) and comic books, much like my own 15yr old.

I have a very limited budget but would like to make his trip to Ireland memorable. We will be based in Monaghan but can head to other places not too far off and mostly at weekends as I am in college during the week but may be able to get out a bit early and mitch a day or 2.

I just hate the thoughts of him going home hating Ireland coz he had a crap time here so any help will be gratefully received!

Can I ask your location? I could help you out regarding an activity involving that type of music, always plenty going on in the irish scene

Brocon is on in University of Limerick this weekend, here's the link: http://brocon.info/
They also have a facebook page. your lads should enjoy it too. There's a Travelodge walking distance from it and onsite campus accommodation.

Show him the Real Irish Culture...

    eat in McDonalds
shop in Tesco (not M&S, they love M&S in France*)
watch BBC1 match of the day...real Irish team like Liverpool or Celtic

make him feel at home.tell him you drive a Phewjo or a Renn allt, that'll impress him

    Do your Napoleon impression
    Watch Emmanuelle on dvd

    *or is that S&M?

Give them one egg for breakfast.

Then ask them if it's enough.

    Every day.

    Never. Gets. Old.

I'd say it completely depends on the guy's personality and interests.

    Play it by ear.

It can be overwhelming enough to have to speak a foreign language all day when you're only really learning it at school and a lot of people will be actually very curious about the country they're visiting so, maybe come up with a few options and sit down and discuss them with him?

He could be into visiting all sorts of places, or he could be happy enough hanging out and just blabbing away to your son's mates - usually it's a combination of the two.

    ---

Bear in mind it's a bit of a cultural exchange too.
While I don't think there's THAT big a gap between France and Ireland in terms of culture, there can be small things - especially about the whole culture of the dinner table. They're very fixated on fixed meal times, and long dinners where everyone sits around talking. It's nice, but it's often kind of a thing of the past in Ireland.

The lack of that can be a little bit of a shocker for some French kids.

Show him the Marlon Brando trick with the margarine. He'll love that.

Leave at the nearest halting site and next day ask him what does he think of our holiday camps. Arent they away better than the Keycamp ones in France.

I think the posters have gvien you numerous suggestions for a memorable holiday.

You can find everything you need to know in this episode of The Inbetweeners:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bnSW2a_H80

Reading the OP that was the very first thing I thought of ... :D

Also if the OPs young lads have any girlfriends they better keep them away from him.

Oh and take him out to eat at some time that is not between 12 and 2 or 5 and 8.
He will probably have a meltdown as nowhere in his bloody country seems to be able to cope with eating outside of those hours.

I am not allowed discuss …

Not many 18 yr olds who don't want to get drunk, doesn't mean he does. In fact coz he is now working in a bar at weekends, he hasn't been out in about a month and only has had 6 cans at home in the past month.

Seeing as your in Monaghan he is just in time to enjoy the 12th of July festivities up the road to you.
He would surly be made welcome if he donned a French flag at one of the marches.

Monaghan is fishing country. Get a few rods and the lads could head off for the day.

No I was saying that in response to someone who was hinting that I was a bad parent coz my 18 yr old would rather play video games and get drunk than go on cultural outings.

He has spent a college year living in Dublin doing his own thing and I let him at it. Am just explaining that his world doesnt revolve around alcohol but he does enjoy a few drinks!

I have allowed him to drink since he was 16 and prefer him to have the mature attitude he has of take it or leave it and am certainly not putting him under surveillance!

And a few girls. I'm sure that they would like to be down by the river with a rod in their hands

This should kill a few hours.

Though seriously, just ask the guy what he'd like to do and play it by ear.

Take him to Mass. God I love a good long Mass. I hear Father Reilly does a good 4 hour Mass since his stroke.
