Is anyone else using the box for their phone?

Twice since the trial started the phone functionality has stopped working. Yesterday when trying to call home I got a message saying the number wasn't available and I could leave a message (no idea where messages are stored). When I got home I tried to call out and got no dial tone. Switching the box on and off cleared the problem.

Anyone seen this? What's the general consensus on the reliability of the phone through the separate cisco router - is that better?

The phones depend on the internet running. If the modem freezes, it effects the phones. Usually a power off/on of the box fixes it. It's as reliable as the cisco IMO....considering it's still in a trial.

Have patience there will be a 2 week programme guide and using the colour buttons on remote for
    next
    24hs -24hrs
    as in the sky guide
    Also other features coming
The info guide on Horizon is much better than Sky looks lot better to me
It will get lot better when full planner is used and the colour buttons are used
When this will happen will be some stage on general release so don't ask me when I don't know yet but I was told its coming including some other amazing features you have not seen yet

Patience is not ordering sky when the box missed a World Title fight that I wanted to see. Rang UPC and there is no record of anyone reporting this. As I am not at home I will have to ring later again.

Any UPC rep see this can you let me know when the guide update will be released. This is royally pissing me off now.

    Hi there.

We don't have any information regarding an update to the guide currently. If any updates are released we will advise customers on the trial.

We are continuing to pass on all feedback received from customers on the trial to the Horizon Team.

    Thanks

    Hi harryw,

If you PM UPC: Reps with your account details we can review any issues you are experiencing with the phone service during the trial.

    Thanks

    Hi Eamonn,

I used the "report a horizon tv issue" button on the web page that was sent out recently to log issues - is that sufficient?

Yes a member of our Horizon Team will follow up with you if you have reported the issue via this method. Thanks for your feedback.

    Thanks

This week, 3 times lately, box doesn't come out of standby and needs to be restarted. You know it's going to happen as the time clock is always wrong when this happens. Once restarts it works and clock is correct.

Eamonn that's all the details I have happened yesterday and today. PM sent to UCP reps with a/c and details.

    Hi all

Just to note that I changed the wifi settings to 20mhz only. This along with a channel change increased the range of the wifi.

This will end my moaning on the wifi range

Which channel has bbc1 HD gone to?

Is it not just BBC 1's location?

Horizon box froze again this evening, flicking through guide etc and the thing completely freezes.
As in picture sound and menu operation completely stops.
    Full unplug on/off sorts it.

Factory reset got my guide back, however the tech support never asked me to do it they said keep it plugged in at night and it will fix itself. Once I reset the guide was populated. It didn't fix itself last night, however are the guide updates only pushed at night to the boxes?

If so that is poor execution, is there not a pull function that box can use on start? Could you let me know if it is vital to leave it plugged in or not.

    Thanks,

No, that just seems to be in SD now..
Can still play bbc1 HD recordings so I don't think it's like I've been unsubscribed or something. Sent a report report issue thing anyhow.

You need to log into the router and access the wifi settings.

    Hi folks,

Regarding BBC1 HD, this channel should now be playing out again on the Horizon box on channel 108, but please me know if this isn't the case for anyone?

    Thanks

Does anyone else get an error message on RTE 1 +1 saying something along the lines of 'your Horizon box is not connected, please check the connections or contact support'. It only seems to be happening for this channel.

RTE1+1 is only on air from 7pm until around 1am. This might be the reason?

Yeah, thanks but this is happening after 7pm. It's a UPC/Horizon message.

    Possibly asked already here, so apologies if so;

Why is BBC1 HD at 108, but we have to go up into the 130's to get BBC2 HD? Same for Sky1 and Sky Living, why are the HD channels not in the premium spot on the EPG? If it's being done for RTE2 and BBC1, why not for all HD Channels?

i would say they are in the process of moving them on the EPG and this is the start of it.

Doesn't always work had my box changed out twice, wifi a bit better on this box but way worse than previous router, bandwidth changed, channel changed, unless you have the newest laptop wifi range will always be an issue. As soon as this trial is over I will be going back to a separate router, never had an issue then.

    Dalkiadave
    Your Laptop or Desktop PC
    What us your WIFI
    is it
    A) Wireless G
    or
    B) Wireless N

You need Wireless N if you want to have good wireless
You also must have Wireless N on your PC or Laptop for download speeds
    above 30MB
Wireless G max is 54mb in theory in real terms its 30mb max

Wireless N max speed using in settings in the router 20mhz only is 144mb-150mb max rate but that in real terms is about 90mb

Wireless N to have Max rate settings must be 20/40mhz in router giving you a max rate of 300mb but only if all devices are wireless n only

If you only have wireless G or are using wireless g and wireless n at lot same time use 20mhz only and remember your speed wont be much above 30mb
If you want 50mb 100mb 150mb you must have wireless n on the device been used
and again NO wireless G device is been used same time
But again to all if your on broadband package of 100mb or 150mb
YOU MUST HAVE A LAPTOP OR DESKTOP OR PHONE ONLY USING WIRELESS N
WITH NO WIRELESS G DEVICE BEEN USED AT ANYTIME

Always use a wired connection on a Desktop PC or Laptop that has a gigabit ethernet connection as this is best especially for top speeds and more so for streaming video
Also if you have Wireless N and Wireless G devices been used same time your N device will be wireless G speed

To get good Wireless all Devices must be Wireless N

I have thought about this and think I have copped the answer:

The HD channels that aren't in the 'right' place, i.e. BBC2HD, Sky1HD, Sky Living HD, Sky News HD are not regional variant HD channels.

e.g. BBC1HD is Northern Ireland version, BBC2HD is a general English version, so the NI version of BBC2 takes precedent.

This is more subtle on the Sky channels - for advertising purposes there are Irish SD versions of each the above channels, which carry advertising specific to the Irish market. I am presuming there is no HD equivalent Irish version (capacity constraints), therefore the SD version will take precedent on the EPG, hoping that more people will watch that through inertia or whatever.

    Would this be correct??

But speed was never an issue, not with old router not with new horizon box, issue was the range on the box. With the old separate router I had 30Mb all over the house including the attic and garden, this box barely makes it upstairs. As ive said before have had every setting changed, 4 engineers and 3 boxes before i could get wifi in the next room, never mind upstairs. This box is going live in the next week or so, "I pity the fool" to coin a phrase

Got a call from UPC on a private number this morning about a call out to inspect follow up work?

Is this normal or some sort of scam seeing if I was in or out of the house that day.
