I think what a lot of people are forgetting is that it's not always as simple as "just ignore them". It's not very different to bullying. If you were told every day that you were going to hell over something you couldn't change then finally worked up the courage to go to a gay pride march and were STILL told that by "loving Christians", you probably wouldn't be able to just ignore it. And I don't condone the violence before anyone else assumes I did, but the situations presented to me in other posts werent comparable. I'm always conscious of the fact that so many young gay people killed themselves because of society's intolerance and I have NO time for hypocrites who act like they mean well with their bigotry.

And yes, bigotry is the word for it. If you do that you are a bigot, plain and simple. It's NOT the same as disagreeing with someone on logical grounds.

There was two guys there, not hundreds, yes they're not welcome and are being "dickish" but this must be the first time 2 people acting non violently have bullied a large crowd.

The situation in places like Eastern Europe is completely different.

Why are the other comparisons so invalid?

No, it doesn't. And I don't think many would condone the attacker (who clearly seems like a bit of a nut job).

I think it's revealing that at the millions attending pride events worldwide, many of whom face even worse protests (check out the rash of violent attacks against pride attendees in Eastern Europe for example), there are so few incidents like this.

I'm talking about the attack though. There seems to be some opinion of "thats what ya get for being a bigot" to this. I dont mean to say its indicative of what going on at these things. Even if the video there is only a couple people physically trying to stop the church nuts. Which furthers my belief that it doesnt have to come down to violence and people can have there say. Sure it might piss people off but there's a lot that pisses people off. But those who reduce it to violence are not forced into it, from the looks of the video its the people who want to fight trying to turn it into a fight.

Does the fact that worse situations exist make this okay?

And the comparison with LGBT protesting WBC was totally laughable because of the differences, i.e. WBC choose to be hateful and act on it, gay people don't choose to be gay; WBC have all their rights, gay people do not. The comparisons were based on the assumption that I was saying they deserved to be beaten up anyway, which I wasn't, so I guess I should have clarified that.

Also nucker, why should gay people keep things under wraps just because Christians might not like it? That works both ways.

The thing is, this happened at a gay pride march something to do with telling the world how glad they are being gay, i.e. letting everyone know that they are gay including letting the ones who you call "church nuts". If they kept it underwraps i.e. no gay pride marc, I don't think there would be a protest to go against it because there would be nothing to "protest" about

Its not just telling the world they are happy to be gay though, there is probably a lot of stuff to go with it in regards rights and stuff. Getting it out there as a real way of life for people that shouldnt be seen by some in politics are not on the same level as conventional relationships or what have ya.

They have every right to be out there, but so do the church nuts. You cant have free speech but only when it suits. People either have the freedom to express themselves and their beliefs or they dont.

It was quite clearly wrong. Few people dispute that.

It's just that sometimes people, by the nature of their actions, make it hard for you to feel sympathetic when they are wronged.

I am bigoted against against beastilaity, necrophilia and homosexuality. Can you explain what exactly is wrong with that?

I am also bigoted against house breaking and many other things.

    Bigotry isnt necessarily bad.

If you do a combo of these things does it make it ok? I.e can I break into a house and have sex with a formerly gay dead dog and still get into heaven?

Couple of things come to mind.

    1. Why does there have to be some form of protest about being gay, gay rights etc. - We get it - Get over it.
loves you all the same, Well, The facebook God I know anyway.Look him up if no one knows what I'm referring to here.

    2. Why do idiots like the god squad or whatever they call themselves have to spoil it. Its none of their business. I mean The situation in itself is stupid none the less

If people can't play nice together, Then don't go near each other..

Note: I'm only basing my opinion on this as I've watched the video in silence... I'll watch it later and will more than likely give a completely different opinion then.

Maybe that is why the march, but that isn't the excuse to use violence on others who have the right to disagree with their sexuality. Otherwise this will end up with a fascist society under the guise of political correctness

Yeah but it was just a couple individuals, and once it turned violent when that fat idiot started swing a lot of people got involved to stop it. As far as "brawls" go it was pretty tame lets be honest.

The fat guy was arrested afterwards too by the looks of it.

Yes that a good point, what we see is a (misguided) minority facing physical violence and threats for expressing their belief in a peaceful manner, the fact that much worse things happen doesn't make this ok.
Possibly having 2 peoples signs catch your eye is a far smaller infringement on any rights than being physically assualted

Oops I was more talking about my example of mens rights groups being picketed (using this example because of video of that occurring in Canada a while ago)

But what you are doing is tacitly victim blaming, look at the thread title, how long do you think that would last if it wasn't 2 fundamentalist christians being attacked but two animal rights protesters at a legal hunt for example.

Completely agree, as long as they don't play play loads of Lady Gaga ;) how come Judas Priest don't get played :(

Ok, so people who are racist, sexist or whatever have the right to their views? Fair enough according to you, but you honestly would like this to carry on unless we turn into a politely correct society?
I don't know about you but that's the whole idea of where we should be heading and do away with this homophobic, racist, sexist shite. That's only the right way to go. I think it's actually crazy to appose it incase we get too politically correct and god forbid we should all get treated equally and not get hassled about aspects of yourselves that we can't help or change.

Racism isn't accepted and it shouldn't be either, I hope anyone who still holds the view that their race is superior is a rapidly dying breed, because "my opinion" or not, it's not right and it never will be. Same as this.

People will look back on the past and wonder what was wrong with us that sexuality was such a huge, massive deal and equally look at those who said "sure they have every right to hate gay people for no reason and to force their beliefs on them and try to make their lives miserable just because they don't like it" in similar disdain.

I actually don't understand why anyone would rather that keep going on instead of getting rid of it altogether, because nobody has the right to treat someone as beneath them and for that to be seen as ok just because an alternative where everyone gets seen as equal and level just seems too PC and "fascist"

That makes zero sense to me.

No they went to give a message of hope and salvation. The rate of self harm, drug abuse and suicide among those involved in the homosexual culture rises each year despite society's approval even in the west for its behaviour rising each year.

Personally as a Christian I think they were wrong to do what they did as the Gospel commands us; "do not cast pearls before swine".

    Hahahahahahahahaha :pac:

Maybe because people think that its a pretty classically fascist idea to condone violence against those with opposing view points carrying out a legal protest like you clearly do!

Seriously these psycho religious picketers need to learn to fuck off where they're not wanted and to stay in their churches. What did they expect, that they'd be welcomed with open arms?

Don't stir shit. If I was around one of them and he was telling me that Jesus was going to save me I'd tell him to shove that sign up his hole.

It'd be like a pack of religious racists picketing against interratial marriage on Martin Luther King Day -as crazy as it sounds, it's happened. I doubt that'd go down without so much as a problem in modern times either.

They made it their business of being there and causing a stir. It's only one day of the year pride happens and yet they still went protesting against it. If they didn't want any trouble then they shouldn't have gone looking for it because that shite won't be tolerated and it never should either.

Not sure how true this is but surely it's not helped by people with placards telling homosexuals that they are perverted and will burn in hell for all eternity. If I was gay it sure wouldn't help me feel good about myself.

Political correctness has been used to tell people to shut up as in they have no right to an opinion. If someone had an opinion on homosexuality that homosexuals didn't agree with, it will be immediately be called homophobia. Which is not what you are trying to say about racism and sexism which is about someone race or gender. Homosexuality is a lifestyle and choice

    A choice eh?

    Why do you say that?

So do you think homosexuals are equally capable of finding opposite sex partners attractive as they are with same sex partners?

So there was at least a certain point in your life where you find members of your own sex to be equally attractive as the opposite sex but for whatever reason decided you wouldn't pursue it?

Do you still find members of the same sex sexually attractive? Could you change your mind and switch now if you wanted to?

I'm not into men, excuse the pun, and its a choice. My bum is for sitting and sh!tting, that's all. It's not a genital

Ah no wonder your argument is going off in that direction, you think it's all a choice.

You obviously side with the religious lot with what they're trying to do and see nothing wrong with the message they spread.

No point bothering with you so.

But btw, racism and homophobia is the same basic thing, hating somebody for something they can't help, though you think it's a choice so no wonder you don't see the similarity.

Well if you chose not to be, clearly there was a point where you thought you could rather fancy them but decided not to.

I couldn't find girls attractive of I wanted to, and believe me, I tried.

Also, the mouth is also not a genital. I presume you are against blow jobs too and refrain from them.

Assuming your a guy, I feel pretty sorry for you. Blow jobs rock!

erm...is that your point. Until recently, I haven't been to church for years. Still didn't believe that homosexuality is "normal". And so what if I side with the religious lot? What does that prove? Because there are obviously gay priests and gay people who say they are religious

So you remember when you decided to choose your sexuality? That's interesting. You see for everyone else, it's an innate part of their make up and not something that they can turn on and off like a tap. Sure some people take part in some experimentation and others are access all areas but that doesn't mean that a person who is gay, straight or bi decides one day that they are going to with whichever persuasion they feel like just for the hell of it or because they look good in camp clothes.
