You would really hate Cracked.com then

those are filler stories .... basically !!

I mean how can you get a "story" from sitting in an office ... lets browse the interwebs and copy/paste some stuff and make a story about it.*

    * = I'm not saying thats what they do but it could very well be ! ..... I've never met a "reporter" or "photographer" from the journal/daily edge.

People like to read lists :P?

You need lighter articles to juxtapose against the doom and gloom. I don't see the harm.

    I like them.

    So there!

The daily edge section is funny. It's like an Irish buzzfeed.

Funnily enough i liked cracked.com but then cracked isnt supposed to be a proper news site.

Yes i am aware people like lists but my gawd they have done it to death and content is dreadful.

To be honest i think the Journals mix of serious stories and light-hearted entertainment is perfectly balanced - they are now my number 1 choice for news because of this.....

there's plenty of rubbish, boring news websites out there (especially Irish ones) - maybe you would like the Aertel section on the RTE website more

if you dont like those articles, then dont open them. nobody is forcing you to read them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28 Liccle trinity

I dont open anymore (thanks for your enlighted response frankcarty)
Its the quality that im giving out about. As previously mentioned I like the journal. I like the style in present in general but the lists is whats been done to death and content has gone downhill of late (6 months or so)

eleventeen people know that statistics are just made up and never show the true figure.

I've gone to the site twice in the last year, only because a story was linked in an OPs post on this site. It's funny that you'd get worked up about stupid top 10 lists, while their actual news articles are complete crap. The news reported by idiots, for idiots.

You know there is a 'Contact Us' link on the webpage.
Why don't you just write to them and outline the top 7 reasons why you don't like all the number related articles?

They like reading reddit ireland. Something usually appears there and a few days later its on the journal. Lazy journalism

why limit it to top 7 !! .... they would probably think they are doing something good if someone takes the time to complain to them, its pointless...and they could/would probably make fun of the person and make/create a story by copying/pasting the correspondence.

Yeah, you're right, we really need more of "More cuts on the way" "New taxes to be introduced" "Bank charges to rise" "Economy in recession" stories rather than a bit of frivolity.

Dont really blame them, they have to have filler articles aswell like, out of all the news app on my phone I visit the journal the most coz its the best of what weve got, they also seem to like to take a few ideas for articles from board's threads tho

At least they are writing some of their own stories! Compared to the likes of joe.ie who is simply copying nearly every thing that balls.ie do! I follow both own facebook, and every time a balls.ie post appears on my newsfeed.... a joe.ie post with the same content will surely appear on the newsfeed shortly afterwards.

Anyone know whats the story with joe.ie anyways... their website is like a simple blog now. They claimed that they were hacked but I don't know about that as that was a while ago now and the website is still very basic!

do you have a link to prove that ?? also, do you consider re-writes as writing their own story ? I've never come across a reporter from the journal while working in the media for over 20yrs, I know they are only running a few years, but I dont know anyone who has ever met a journalist from the journal etc out and about on jobs.

This is an article that was written for the journal... They have a few contributors from different backgrounds. I'm not saying that the journal is a "world class" news publisher but they have made an impact in today's irish media! It's cheap and cheeerful! The Irish Independent are trying to follow suit by making it's website and content more social and try and make ground on the younger market that thejournal.ie has been attracting!

the independent may try and copy the journal, but they will censor the fcuk out of all the comments, whereas the journal publish all comments as they are not linked to any political party and have no agenda to push

could this be because mainstream media may not have published the article ? might be suited to a political journal, or newsletter.

Have the journal ever "broke" a story ...any investigative journalism, any fresh news ?

for me ... the journal is only providing a platform for people who may not otherwise get published in mainstream media, and to fill the many gaps left in between what "original" content they do have they copy and paste from other websites - as the start of this thread is all about - copy and paste lists that other people/websites created.

did any one see the spat on twitter between them and the irish mirror, the irish mirror ended up getting mad and post the person number of the person that owns/runs the journal and calling them thieves for robbing all the stories.
