Really? I've had it a few times now and always enjoyed it.

What did you get? I've been twice to eat and couldn't complain either time.

There's a new Japanese sushi and noodle restaurant opening on McCurtain Street this week. Sakura (or something like that) it's called. Hopefully it will be good, reasonable and if so, do well.

Went there for lunch today, it is indeed called Sakura Japanese Cuisine, you can find them on facebook, though no menus as of yet.

I had the chicken ramen as well as pork dumplings and tempura squid. First impression: it was alright. The ramen had some weird things in it like raw onions and broccoli and it wasn't exactly an explosion of flavour. The squid was kinda tasteless, the pork dumplings were awesome. My friends had katsu curry (said it was alright, no wagamama's though) and a battered teriyaki chicken dish with rice that was really tasty but again with some strange choices, like green beans.

So we didn't try the sushi, some others around us did and it looked very nice though.

All in all hoping the lack of flavour in some things are teething issues and will go back at some point to hopefully confirm that.

Also, 35€ for 3 people for lunch with side dishes, can deal with that! And free green tea! :)

Speaking of sushi... Had the veggie sushi in cafe paradiso earlier this week. Came with little pile of tempura veg. Fantastic. Just awesome. Makes me want to take out my sushi rolling mat again.

The place was full. Took me three weeks to get a booking mid week. Really like seeing them do so well. Always interesting to eat there.

Just had a bento box there. €12.99. It was very good and just enough to fill me up nicely. A hungry might need something with it.
Some great subtle flavours. I was happy. :D
Staff were lovely too but as it's only the third or fourth day, they still have a bit to learn about the food. Chef seem to know what they're at, though.
    I'll be going again.

Thanks for the shill, but we're only interested in restaurants in the REAL capital!

Try posting on the Dublin forum...

I tried the sushi there today. Quick and friendly service. The "large sushi" combo consisted of 12 pieces and cost something like €20, which is on the expensive side for rather standard nigiri choiches, but it did taste good and I would say it's worth the money.

Not sure who this was directed at, don't think anyone posted about anything in Dublin? :)

It would've made more sense if you saw the OP. It was referring to an Indian Restaurant in Dublin. That post was removed, but mine remained for some reason....:)

Anyone know what the Sha Hee Indian restaurant in Glanmire is like?

Italians were discussed a few posts back. :)

I think the consensus was they are few and far between, but Italee and La Dolce Vita are your best bet.

There a couple of places outside the city, for example Napoli in Monkstown, that are also worth a visit.

Also, Ballincollig - Bacco's, and Wilton - Gallo and Galetti

Luigi Malone's? How young are the kids?

Market Lane does good healthy food for kids.

Gino's pizza on winthrop street. It's icecream and pizza. We loved it as kids.

Paradise Crepe is on academy street. It's a creperie. Sweet crepes, savoury ones. Not sure if this one is open on a sunday night... It isn't open that long.

My kid loves wagamama. Noodle bar on north main street.

Market lane is great for kids too. They have colouring pencils and the kids food is healthy.

If you can get a booking, cafe paradiso! I'm not a vegetarian and it's in my favourites in the city,

House Café in The Opera House is mostly veggie and is really good. It's not restaurant atmosphere, though, if that's what you're after - more of a café vibe.

You want to order your food after nine? That's pretty late. i assumed it was toddlers and young kids.
    What age are the children?

Any licensed premises has rules for chlldren after a certain time, so your beer may be out.

Anyway, gino's as above is open until 10 i think.

Jeez I didn't realise there were laws against eating after 9 !!!!! :D

Isn't it ok when having food, say the likes of a hotel bar serving food?

    Cheers, will try Ginos.

    Milano's?

Usually it's last orders for the kitchen at 9. They won't kick you out if you haven't finished eating your meal!

    From where? :)

It's on Proby's Quay, on the right hand side, just opposite Finbarr's Cathedral.

For Italian I would recommend Rico's near the Mardyke.
Dunno when they last serve though.
When I was there they had no "high chair" for junior but they gave him a free ice cream becuase he didn't make a mess from the normal chair, with his plate at chin height!!
    Lovely fresh food!
