I thought numbers 1-200 were reserved and you had to pay €1,000 to have one is this still the case?

About the Sinclair C5
The Sinclair Research C5 is a battery electric vehicle, invented by Sir Clive Sinclair and launched by Sinclair Research in the United Kingdom on 10 January 1985. The vehicle is a battery-assisted tricycle steered by a handlebar beneath the driver's knees. Powered operation is possible making it unnecessary for the driver to pedal. Reg is not meant to look well or bad.
It's just some random numbers and letters to identify a vehicle, and that how it should be treated.

Saying that some car might look better with D reg than KY reg is totally ridiculous.
The same as 132 doesn't make reg look better than 49 or something.
It's all completely irrelevant.

Saw a blue fabia earlier 132c231 and 132wd11 but that was it, even on dealer forecourts.

But the reality is that for many people it DOES make a difference!

A D-reg is seen as more desirable and therefore will command a premium over an equivalent non-D. To me a 13x car is a 13x car and a few months makes very little if any REAL difference, but this isn't about what makes sense.. it's about shifting (or trying to shift) public perceptions to thus shift more cars.

But again the reality is most people don't have the money (or available credit) anymore and I don't see this new reg changing that.. those who care more about the car than the plate will buy when they want to, and those who care about such things will still wait for the "new" 1x reg as they always have done.

If anything this system has surely made things worse for those people as now your "new" car is only new for 6 months.. not even the year it was previously!

saw a few 132 fords outside elmcourt on the boreenmanna road in cork city the focus st estate is the best so far, pity i didnt have my phone do!

I'm assuming you mean that regarding Dublin only. I mean - what premium would a car with a Dublin reg. carry in Kilkenny or Galway or Co. Tipperary?

Yes I understand that some people want to have the highest year possible on the plate so others can see they could afford new car.
Also some people might prefer D reg so no one thinks they are culchies.
Or maybe someone just prefers to but D reg second hand car as they think those cars are better kept.

But whatever it is, number plate can't really look good or bad esthetically.

I know that in Kerry, many of the locals would go for a D reg car as they can be fairly sure that it wouldn't have been trashed on the local roads.
