SIMI are hoping for a boost. They cite the example of the Netherlands having a 4% boost. The lure of the new plate is high to the target market; new car buyers.

When there's years more evidence to judge it by it might be seen to make the new car market more reactive to improvements in sentiment and the availability of credit.

Even if sales are down for the year it will be because of the recession and they would have been even worse without the new system.
Only people with money to waste would make such a decision on when to buy a car by the look of the number plate.

It looks like you can have any colour car you want as long as it's white.

That is a common view among people that don't buy new cars.

I think we need to ditch the year/place of first reg plates.
The year is unlikely to change but the place of first reg is a wholly stupid idea unless cars are re reg'd on change of ownership.

It also devalues cars here much quiker than they would otherwise, but that I suppose is part of the idea.

There were more new cars sold on the 1st July than the whole of June. Yesterday, the first day of the new ‘132‘ registration plate, 1,927 new cars were sold, compared to just 1 on the same day last July.

The first day in July 2012 was a sunday though. Still though the figures were way up this year on a working day vs working day basis.

Although the county doesn't bother me, I would he slow to go for a DL or KY reg. I'm saying that none of my last few cars have been used much around the county they were registered.

Because the Motors forum is heavily populated with people who seem to like nothing better than having a pop at people who've bought themselves a nice new motor. Bizarre.

It's a joke muppetcheck, it's not a personal insult to you, the car owners, the photos, or anyone out there that has a white OR black car. I love black and white equally. I had a dream that black cars And white cars....

Wasn't singling you out in particular, just the general vibe around here at times, that oddly enough for a motors forum, there is a contingent here who seem to sneer at those who enjoy spending their own hard earned on..... Motors!

    Anyway, I'll move on.

I didn't mean to come across like that, and you're right, but you have to realise, this isn't a motoring enthusiasts forum, if its not a diesel Audi/VW/BMW, it's not a car!!

It's a common view amongst people who don't want their new car to look old within six months, just look to the UK where there is a huge market for personalised plates that hide the age of the car.

My biggest gripe with buying used cars is the greyness... @ new car buyers, ad some colour to your lives! Think of the future!

Sport model? I was chasing that for a customer but it was sold.

If it is that one, it was on the same boat as all those red focus's.

Last time I bought a new car, it was back in '08. You could order grey, grey, grey, black, navy blue or green.

The salesman warned me that if i bought a green one, it would immediately be worth €1500 less than a grey one, because many Irish people think green is unlucky.
