i blame wifi, bringing the interweb into the kitchen, for shame!

Add "selfies" to the mix as well. The usual standing in front of a mirror to take a picture trick.

Why shouldn't people be allowed to put up the likes of holiday pictures on Facebook? Friends and family would genuinely want to see them. At least it shows that those on holidays were having a life and enjoying every minute of it, and not worrying what others would think once they'd upload the pictures.

People should learn how to use settings properly on Facebook.

If you are going to do a selfie, clean your room! At the very least, push the clutter from the area before taking a photo. And people taking photos when they are stopped at a light, maybe they are bragging that they can a) drive and b) own a car. :D

    Madness on Facebook

I really preferred 'The Beat' but for me 'Madness' were better than 'Bad Manners'

I deleted my facebook account a few months ago after a rant on here about it. My missus used to constantly give me grief about posting on it (mostly cyanide and happiness cartoons) so i gave her a big fcuk you and deleted it.

Best thing ever. As far as i can see FB is just one big attention seeking ball of shíte. Look at me i'm here - please notice me - look where i am now - oh why won't someone comment about what i'm doing - please notice me, somebody now.

As for "like" if you hate cancer - fcuk right off.

That defeats the purpose of befriending someone on a social networking site. If you truly don't give a damn about someone's life defriend them. The more likely answer is that you are jealous of their life, and by remaining their friend, you can see all of the great things they are doing with their life. You'll be at home seething and bitching about people who post things about their lives on their facebook page.
No the more likely answer is that your life is a lot less interesting to other people than it is to you. People don't want or need to see constant updates of whats happening in your life.

And at the risk of being sexist, it is almost always women that post inane ****e on facebook.

Next time you go to add someone, think 'does this person give a **** about my life?'

If the answer is 'no', then don't add them. What's the point?
All the people I'm friends with on facebook are people I've known for years.

Do I like them and enjoy their company? Yes.

Do I need to know every little detail of their lives? No.

I find this very vexing and hope all of you do as well but I'm under no illusion as I fear many users here will be equally culpable of this crime.

So what am I on about?

The concept of placing hundreds of photos on Facebook, usually holiday pics, when abroad, at that moment. The reason it annoys me is that they're basically saying

'Look where I am, having a great time, while all you f***ers are stuck at home'

The worst part is when you have the 'Check-In' folks who post up messages such as 'Fanny has checked into X Café in Dubrovnik' or some such nonsense.

Could you imagine going to a café in Dublin and texting all your friends, not FB friends, but regular legit friends and saying in the text 'I've just arrived in this café in Dublin'. That sounds mad and rightly so but for some bizarre reason, when someone on FB checks in somewhere, it's deemed somewhat more acceptable. What they're actually saying on FB is 'I'm here having a great time, hope you're jealous'.

I think a certain type of people are guilty of this and I wish there was a 'Dislike' feature on FB as I'd have no qualms to press it in such circumstances.

Is there anything else on FB you've noticed that would be bizarre if you texted but somehow has become 'normal acceptable behaviour' on FB.

I've literally never thought of it this way before. Usually when one of my mates checks in somewhere locally it's to say "We're hanging out at X place, anyone else drop in if you're around". If I check in to a nightclub or whatever it's usually for the same reason, see if anyone else wants to come. It's more efficient than texting a whole f*ckload of people who might or might not even be around. Methinks you're just being overly cynical and bitter.

Holiday check ins are definitely for showing off but so what? Usually the photos which emerge from such showoffs are absolutely hilarious :D

You must be easily pleased then and I'm happy for you that you get such pleasure from seeing other people regularly update.

As for using the Check-In feature to attract other people, well, at least that has a function. However, when you have inane check-in's such as 'Checked-In to Dublin T1 Airport', or 'Checked in to Fanny's Restaurant', when clearly you can't join, serves little to no function at all. So it's important to distinguish between functional and dysfunctional use of the Check-In facility.

The whole point of social media is keeping in touch with people. You're sharing small things that you mightn't tell someone the next time you see them (especially if you don't meet up that often), but make people feel more connected. Rather than meeting up with a mate 6 months later & having a conversation —

    "How's it going?"
    "Fine. Any news?"
"Ah, nothing really. You know yourself"

What I really don't get is why if you don't appreciate that, & for some reason have added a load of people that you find 'inane', you don't delete/ignore them? It's not that hard to do.

You knew what Facebook was about when you signed up. It's like reading the paper & complaining about all those inane commentators with their analysis of current affairs!

You're probably an apologist for Twitter in that case:

    'Just going for a ****, #logarithms RT'

There's some detail, so small, that it merely becomes superfluous filler and nothing of substance that a 'friend' would need to know.

'Look where I am, having a great time, while all you f***ers are stuck at home'

This pretty much sums up Facebook. It's all about, "Hey look at my cool, interesting, quirky life!"

It's about self validation and ego stroking. I use it only to keep in touch with a few people, and recently went on a mass deletion spree:

    Posting song lyrics....gone
    Profile pic of eyes....gone
    Self in the mirror....gone
Cover pic of self in nature/on a mountain.........gone
Reflective posts on life so far....gone

By asking me that question, it appears you'd like me to continue the rant. Make up your mind.

I didn't ask you to stop. You can rant away but I'm bemused at how supposedly peed off you are about this.

Another reason for posting holiday photos is so that the other people in them can have a copy. For example, I spent part of last summer in a language school in Spain where I met loads of new people and groups of us went off on weekend trips together. By putting the photos on Facebook, we could all have a copy of each other's photos (some of which are really nice group shots that we asked a passer-by to take with one camera) when we all went back home - it's far easier than mailing people huge photo attachments one-by-one and not everyone has a laptop or USB storage device with them on holidays to make their own copies.

I do agree that people share too much on FB and I don't see the point of uploading 30 selfies that look the exact same. But I don't have any issue with people uploading photos from their travels - if they're off doing something interesting, fair play to them!

I post what I like on Facebook. Anyone that doesn't like it can remove me as a friend.

I don't get why anyone thinks Facebook is a good way to store photos though. You can now get a free Flickr account with a terrabyte of storage and have access to the original versions of your pictures.

    Your (sic) not wrong.
Right now I'm taking some photos of it and sticking them up their (sic) on Fb right now under "See what I'm looking at right now" right now.

thats why there are real friends and facebook 'friends' your real friends you give a **** about and want to be there and share their experiences and them especially with you, but facebook 'friends' are just people you have asked for to be friends with. simple solution. stick to real friends on facebook only. if you have more than 30-50? friends on facebook thats really sad
