It can't be played in London, can't be played in the Hyde.

Options were Galway v McHale park, hardly makes sense to drag 10 or 15k people to Galway which will in all honesty offer zero advantage to London.
Bigger venue, bigger chance of a large gate if held in McHale park, therefore a bigger pot for London GAA.
Not very hard logic to figure out.
Bigger venue wouldn't come into but bigger gate certainly would however would have been 20,000 at the game if Leitrim had won yesterday will be lucky to get 12-15k now

Dublin haven't played a senior football championship match in Parnell Park in years, why are you making stuff up??

 you know exactly what he means

The lack of respect shown to London here is disgraceful.

    How so??

Where can I buy a London flag?

Ask over on the Galway thread.. then again you don't post over there.

Lack of respect by who?? The GAA? Or the new posters/trolls on this thread?

And prob 1/2 that again if it was in Pearce. So least there might be some atmosphere for the game.
Rossies are in the minor and will always bring a good core of fans with them.

Theres nobody disrespecting London on here, it's fairly obvious who wins the game, if London were in Leinster and somehow got to a final Dublin would be lucky to get 20-30k at Croke Park

    How so??

See below. So not only is it a foregone conclusion that Mayo will beat London, but it's not even worthy of a celebration...

Mayo should just rest the starting fifteen that played Roscommon and let the u21 players do the job for them. Let them head off to Tenerife for a week or so for a break and let them relax ahead of the quarter final in August bank Holiday weekend .

I know what he means, and I am telling him he is wrong! It's not a grey area its very much black and white.

Sher loads of Dubs disrespect other counties in Ireland by labelling them Culchies all the time as If there a different breed of people and a few on the hogan stand were disrespecting mayo saying sher any1 could win that **** excuse of a connacht competition anyways? What price will London be to win the game 66/1?

If Limerick won a championship you would soon be celebrating, so pipe down ;)

Quite true, if we beat Cork in the Munster hurling final on Sunday week i will celebrate it like an All-Ireland win.
If we had beaten Kerry in any of those 'near misses' over the last ten years in the Munster football final i would have done likewise.
However if we beat Kerry in a Munster hurling final, knowing that the draw was incredibly kind to Kerry to get there, i would be embarressed to 'celebrate' and would be abhorred to see any of my fellow countymen 'celebrate.

I only hope that somehow in the near future that NewYork and London meet in the Connacht final. Would be gas the GAA trying to work out a venue for that one

Would have to be New York. I could be wrong, but I'd say a large number of the New York team are..shall we say...undocumented? :D

Ah, that's just a bit of banter and having the craic. However, Mayo, as opponents and huge favourites to win should should show London a bit of respect. To do otherwise shows a lack of class, imo.

Big difference in saying "Jesus, we should definately beat London" to basically saying "we will win".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 156 ✭✭scatman carruthers

Well we expect to win... I don't think any man and his dog in the country will give London a hope in hell. It is possibly the biggest mismatch in provincial final history??!! Maybe someone could argue against that. The mayo team or james horan won't be taking anything for granted though and will want to put in a solid 70min and rack up a big score. A game between the Mayo B side and the Starting 15 would be a much better game for the public though. I'm worried at our chances in august tho. All the games are a step backwards in quality of opposition

Nobody will be more aware than James Horan as to what London can do when they're given the "no hope" tag by the bookies so I'm sure he will have the team focused for the job at hand

I think you'll find what I said is probably reflective of most genuine Mayo supporters. There's no disrespect in saying that we expect to beat London. No London fan or player will be disrespected when they come over here in a few weeks but there's not one thing wrong with supporters of a team who have genuine hopes of reaching an All Ireland Final or even winning an All Ireland, expressing confidence in their own team.

Nothing wrong with a bit of confidence at all, that's not what I'm saying...but it's not just a matter of turning up and getting the win. There will be another team out on the pitch, who will be busting a gut and giving it all they can. Maybe just acknowledge that and realise they do have at least some chance, however small...

Do I really have to requote my previous post again? The one that begins with "Nobody will be more aware than James Horan......."?

Yes, I get what you're saying... I've no doubt the Mayo team won't underestimate London (especially after what happened in 2011) .. I was talking more of the attitude of Mayo fans here and over on Hogan Stand.

I was talking more of the attitude of Mayo fans here and over on Hogan Stand.

I don't wish to get into a petty squabble but I need to make these points. I have no idea what's being said on Hogan Stand, but my opinion is pretty much reflective of the general opinion here, and that is that as supporters, we expect Mayo to win, and we expect Mayo to win well. I don't think there's a football fan in the country that thinks differently.

Is that disrespectful to London? No, I don't believe it is. If Mayo were going into the game with an "I really hope we can manage to beat a Division 4 team" attitude, then we would be as well off packing up for the summer. There is confidence in Mayo - nobody is ashamed of that, and nobody should have to apologise for it, but that does not mean there is any disrespect for London players or supporters.

I have no doubt the team will afford them the respect they deserve because to do otherwise would be tantamount to creating a proverbial banana skin.

Dublin fans expect; Donegal fans expect; Kerry fans expect, and for the first time in a long time, Mayo fans expect and I for one will not apologise for that.

Of course you expect to win! I've said that already. I have no issue with that. It's the "when we win" attitude I'm talking about.

You quoted 4 "mayo fans " earlier. At least 2 of them are not mayo fans. Read back through the thread. I'm a genuine mayo fan so you can quote me.
I'd have no problem if the match had been fixed for Salthill as a neutral venue. Even though Cbar may be more accessible for London fans given the proximity of Knock Airport.
I strongly disagree with the suggestions from some that the match should be in London for many reasons.
I fully expect the beaten All Ireland finalists of last year to beat a division 4 team. I hope for a competitive game but don't expect one for the full 70 minutes.
Why are you browsing Mayo forums on 2 different sites .....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,732 ✭✭✭irishgeo

mayo are 500/1 on to win this, the handicap is -18 points

    huge odds.

I haven't even been on the Mayo forum on Hogan Stand, just the general one and I only came on here as there was a discussion re the use of McHale Park for the final.

I also disagree with the suggestion that the match should be played in London, fwiw.

now that we know that its in McHale Park can you leave again.
the mayo thread has being full of trools the last while

I don't agree with that naughto. While I mightn't agree with what she has been saying, DebDynamite has as much a right to be here as any of us.

i cant believe some of the rubbish being posted here, London being disrespected, match should be played in Salthill, Mayo fans being cocky because they expect there team to dispose of a team that's only won 4 championships games in how many years.

Game has been rightly fixed for mchale park, Provincial finals should be played in the best possible venue in every province, every Leinster final is played in Croke park, every ulster final is played in clones (except the few years it was held in croker), every muster final is held in Fitzgerald stadium or pairc ui chaoimh.

Of course Mayo fans are fully confident of there team defeating London by a large margin there a division 1 team with sights on winning the all Ireland and going for 3 Connaughts in a row playing a division 4 team that have never played in anywhere near a major final before. If it was Dublin or kerry playing them we wouldn't be hearing this **** about there fans being cocky. Its just expected.

Fr Ted Umptious was called cocky here before the Roscommon game because he said he expected mayo to win easily and what happened in that game Mayo had it won at half time. I'd rate Roscommon as a better team then London or Leitrim.

Therefore while yes London do have a chance of causing an upset but its up there with the Faroe Island winning the world cup its very doubtful its gonna happen anytime soon.

Does anyone know who the ref will be. (please god not any of the duffys)
