Good to see I got snapped at for that comment.

I just think the societal pat on the head for being a good looking woman is not what it is cracked up to be.

T'wouldn't be my thing now. I might forgive someone for "looking after themselves", but only if they also read just the right sci-fi. Otherwise, pale and chubby all the way, male or female.

Your comment with the "awaits victim blaming accusations" hardly opened your argument up for debate.

True fact. I am cantankerous in addition to being a big girl and a chubby chaser.

Define a "big woman". Are we talking about obesity here or just having a little extra to grab onto :p?

If you'd bothered reading the thread you'd see that the last 30-odd pages have been attempting to do just that.

Well, in fairness we've been using clearly shopped images of Christina Hendricks and Sofia Viagra as a barometer for what's curvy or what's big, etc, but for me a good photoshop job is like a good make up job - when it's hard to tell there's been any work done at all.

If you happen by www.page3.com there's a girl in today's Sun newspaper called Lucy, and from having seen shopped images of her in other men's magazines, she looks very much natural in the Sun (I'm sure we can all use Google and see the difference I'm talking about!), but Lucy, to me at least, would be a better example of a curvy girl than Scarlett Johannsen who I would classify as a warped matchstick- good looking girl? Absolutely. Curvy? Meh.

Explains the username at least! :D

Just when you mention Ancient Rome there Wibbs I was reminded of this chap - Michaelangelo's Statue Of David. I mean, they don't come much more "ideal of physical perfection" than that, and that was over 400 years ago. Nowadays we have Gerard Butler advertising male grooming products, Bradley Cooper advertising ice cream ffs (the Haagen Das advert!), I mean, you wouldn't see Zak Galifianakis advertising anything aimed at the ideal of male perfection! :D

Bradley Cooper and a tub of Baileys haagen das mmmm .... Sorry you were saying? :)

I always thought he was a bit under-endowed too.

On a more serious note, David was around 15 when he killed Goliath, so it's a depiction of a fit teenager rather than a grown male stud muffin ( I believe that's the technical term)

Some statues are growers and others showers.

You know, women don't have to bend to societal pressure.
Just as well because some of the bigger ones might not be as flexible, especially if wearing a bodice.

If someone loves you/you love someone - size will never be an issue. It's an industry making women feel bad about themselves. Big girls are best! Alison Moyet looks dreadful since she skinnied. Is it true that Adele is going that route? Thought she would have more sense.

That's not true, and I think it's a mantra that a lot of people use as an excuse to be lazy.

I would agree somewhat with this but most peoples weight tends to fluctuate especially womens (pregnancy) and the majority of people wouldn't mind a little weight gain or a little weight loss, where it can become an issue is if for instance a women at the start of a relationship is say a size 10 and within a few years becomes a size 18. It's not fair to expect your partner to be as attracted to you if you put on that much weight, yes they may still love you but more than likely they will be unhappy with your weight gain.
A friend of mine met her current partner 6 years ago and when she met him he was very fit and toned, withing 2-3 years he put on at least 5 stone, she never stopped loving him but had to tell him that she wasn't happy with his weight gain (for health reasons as much as asthetics) he is now pretty much back to the weight he was when they first met.

They might still love you but they mightn't want to have sex with you any more. If someone is not attracted to you then it's not their fault, because attraction is not a choice

Yeah, many people have weight fluctuations that their partners can deal with. I should have expanded on my point really! There are plenty of people who will still love their partners if they put on a bit of weight, or even a lot of weight. The attraction may not still be there, but the love might be. However if someone puts on a lot of weight (or if someone loses a lot of weight) it can change their personality. Imagine you fall in love with someone who is a normal weight. After a few years they begin to put on weight. They know it is a problem but they don't do anything about it and they just keep getting bigger. I think it could be very possible to fall out of love with someone in that situation.

I'd agree with him TBH. Just going on personal experience. Mates when younger who would express a preference for thin women, but when given the choice between that expressed preference and bigger women went for the latter. As they got older they were more likely to admit/state they preferred "curves".

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I actually have noticed similar patterns.
I would generally put it down to peer pressure - the young lads still need to appear cool and impress their mates, and a fat bird ain't gonna impress them, now, is she?

As they get older, usually by the time they're in their 30s, a lot of that pressure is gone, and they will not feel embarrassed for preferring big ladies.

Either that or their tastes actually do change drastically, but I'm finding that less likely. ;)

I don't think they're more popular, its just some guys will get up on anything. As one guy said, "They're like moped's... fun to ride, but you don't want your friends to find out."
