AIB announced another increase in bank charges today, they obviously thought that the media and the public would be too focused on the Anglo Tapes to notice
AIB is increasing its charges for some of its commonly used services again. From the end of August, AIB customers will be charged 35 cent every time they use an ATM machine, an increase of 75 per cent on the current charge of 20 cent.

The cost of paper and staff-assisted transactions, including manual withdrawals, lodgements and cheques, will increase from 30 cent to 39 cent
The charges associated with foreign currency drafts are to go up from €4.44 to €7 while a new charge of €4.50 will be applied to anyone setting up or cancelling a standing order.

The cost of a domestic euro bank draft - which currently stands at €1.90 - will climb to €3

Michael McGrath looks like Bernard O'Shea off the republic of telly. Only not funny.

Bernard O'Shea isn't funny either in my opinion.

I can't believe that Vinny banned Fionnan from the show  How incredibly childish! I thought Vinny was a bigger man than that :(

    Yeah just read that.
    Pathetic.

I'm wondering is there any politicians in these tape recordings.

I think you may have hit on a very important point. I would say there are ex-Fianna Fail members sitting very uncomfortably at the moment. Paul Williams said last night the released tapes are only the tip of the iceberg.
It would be very hard to imagine that Cowan or his cohorts did not make any telephone contact with the top members of Anglo at the time. I would imagine also there are a certain amounts of recordings that can't be released because they would affect the Seanie Fitz trial next year.

I'd be far more distraught, had he banned Constantin.

Very true and what interesting recordings they would make;)
On another note disappointed if Vincent has banned Sheahan, although I will believe it when I see it as it wouldn't be like Sheahan to overreact now would it:rolleyes:

Lenihan and Cowan were badly hoodwinked by those Bankers.
They fell for it hook, line and sinker.
The Regulator of the time, Neary, should have his pension revoked too.

I wouldn't be surprised if they knew exactly what was going on. :/

Some posters saying that these tapes could be responsible for clearing FF.
I think they will condemn them to the dustbin of history with a bit of luck.

Jesus do we need a new party and new politics in this wee cabbage patch of a country.

We definitely need new politics. Not sure a new party is what we need, we have plenty and they're all the one.

Whether they did or didn't, you can be certain that the full story was not given to them by the bankers. They would have been daft to do so, as it would have meant that they would have had zero chance of getting the money they wanted from the state to keep the show on the road.

I find the lack of emphasis on the Boards of Directors of the bank amazing. If anyone else knew about the true state of the bank, it was that board.

This is doing zero harm to FF. If anything, people will join the dots and get the idea that they were led along and lied to. The proof of this is in Enda's language in the Dail the other day, when he explicitly linked FF to the whole mess.

I hope VB didn't ban FS. Always thought he was bigger than that kind of thing.

Agree ... and the invisible AUDITORS - where they hoodwinked too or just lazy and/or incompetent?

I too would be very, very disappointed if Vinny was that petty.

Maybe it's not the parties that are the problem but the electorate!

I'd imagine it was a mixture of incompetence and fear of losing what would have been a very lucrative contract that kept them quiet.

in fairness, we the electorate, are not exactly spoilt for choice when it comes to the high standards of honesty, morality or probity of the candidates looking for our scratch mark :(

Yeah but the fact that there are still FF voters is frightening.
