Haven't read all the thread but I presume we're discussing loose leaf, only the uncouth would use tea bags.

I refuse to buy Lyons since they stopped operating in Ireland.

I prefer tea bags to loose leaf to be honest. The odd time I have lose leaf its never as nice as from the bags.

Barry's v Lyons is a bit like your religion.

More like politics. Barry's = Fine Gael and Lyons Fianna Fáil (by default I guess, I don't think that Lyons were every associated directly with FF)

Barry's is Irish owned, operated and produced.

Lyons is dutch owned and operated and produced in England.

    Barry's for me every time.

Barrys are for culchies and northsiders.
    Lyons all the way.
In fact I never heard of Barrys til I met northsiders in London.

There is a story behind that. The Barry's of Cork have been involved in selling tea for over 100 years. Employ about 90 people down in Cork. They were on the Collins side in the Civil War. Actively involved in the making of FG. There has been a Barry elected for FG (and the predecessors) in Cork pretty much since the founding of the State.

So loads of people in Munster associated Barry's tea with FG. Hence the reputation.

It's a great example of a well-ran Irish company though.

Lyons. Daft question. Who in their right mind would willingly drink bogger tae...?

Possibly people who don't want to buy a product from a company (Unilever) responsible for closing several long established Irish factories and moving production abroad. There are several locally produced (blended and packed) alternatives to Lyons besides Barry's, such as Bewleys, Campbell's, Robert Roberts and Mc Grath's.

Btw, I grew up drinking Lyons; I haven't knowingly drunk it since Unilever closed their tea factory here.

Such a rubbish thread, with only two brands of tea to choose from

I think I'll start a proper Tea thread, with a poll that includes the top ten teas drunk & enjoyed in Ireland.

My gf's mother still can't comprehend that I don't drink tea or coffee. I feel like I'm disappointing her every time I decline a beverage.

Hay, what's happened to my 'Multi brand' Tea thread?

The title on this thread has little to do with the thread I started

The other tea thread that was active today has been merged with the other which tea thread which was also active today.

The results of the last very important poll were:
    Barrys - 96 (42.86%)
    Lyons - 109 (48.66%)
    Other fancy shtuff - 19 (8.48%).

These are the pressing matters of today.
