He's 94 years old. That's a long time to be alive.

I'd say there's a few lads from the ANC who are going, ffs, mandela got banged up in the first year, us tools had to campaign against apartheid for years and years while he did laps of Robben Island, then the fecker gets let out and everyone gives him the credit for the work we did. Apart from having a funny accent, what exactly did he do?

In a past life I was a photographer and covered a lot of anti-apartheid demos. I didn't see Nels at any of them.. saw loads of other lads getting the good news from the S.A police though. I'd say they feel much the same about mandela as actual gang-bangers in the U.S feel about Biggie - in it for a week, rapped about it for years, got all the glory, all the spoils, all we got was jail time..

Dont think they are covering it much more than any other news platform.

BBC are reporting him again today.

    Today's winner
I am sick and tired of listening about that clown, what did he do for his people ?. No one would have known about him only for his wife Winnie, she fought all her life for him, spent years in house arrest, degraded by the press, but fought gallantly for her people, then deserted by that selfish clown.

Yeah, nobody believes that. And being in prison is hardly a picnic.

    He founded the ANC (before)
Ended Apartheid in talks with DeKlerk (after)

DeKlerk was scurring behind the scenes with Mandella to have a peaceful hand over of power due to world pressure. Mandella was just a side bar to the whole collapse of DeKlerk's power base. Corrupt black Africans took over from corrupt white Africans, and Nelly walked away with his big fat largess.

Yeah but he still negotiated the settlement. And SA may be corrupt but it isn't racist against its majority population. If Mandela - who was in prison until he was an old man made money later - good for him. If he'd had had a normal lifespan for black Africa he would have died in prison.

    And you spelled DeKlerk wrong.

Every freedom movement in the world had their own way of treating Touts and traitors. Look what they are doing to Bradley Manning, what about water boarding, the torture chambers in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo, and the secret jails in Poland and other countries run by the CIA.
And who's defending them? The brutality Winnie Mandela oversaw was outrageous. Yeh I admire much of what she did in the run-up to acquiring power, but the methods used by her Football Team gang were horrific. And to effectively say that a traitor deserved that kind of physical brutality, just because others have done similar, is staggering.

    He didn't found the ANC.

Wikipedia, Google is down can't access the link.

The African National Congress (ANC) is the Republic of South Africa's governing political party, supported by its Tripartite Alliance with the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and the South African Communist Party (SACP), since the establishment of non-racial democracy in April 1994. It defines itself as a "disciplined force of the left".[2] Members founded the organisation as the South African Native National Congress (SANNC) on 8 January 1912 at the Waaihoek Wesleyan Church in Bloemfontein to increase the rights of the black South African population. John Dube, its first president, and poet and author Sol Plaatje were among its founding members. The organisation became the ANC in 1923 and formed a military wing, the Umkhonto we Sizwe (Spear of the Nation) in 1961.
It has been the ruling party of post-apartheid South Africa on the national level since 1994. It increased its majority in the 1999 elections, and further increased it in 2004, with 69.7% of the votes. In 2009 its share of the vote reduced slightly, but it remained the dominant party with 65.9% of the votes.

All sorts of war is staggering, they don't just fight during the day and go home for their tea.

So, Is Enda getting the government jet fueled up in preparation for the state funeral? He might bring Dobbo so he can report from there tomorrow! I suppose there will be books of condolences and the pubs in Moneygall will close for an hour? Ah, hang on....
