hi my mother in law done adeal to buy a new car on Thursday today the car sales man rang her back to say she Will be waiting eight to ten weeks for it she wanted in black this seems long he told he had the car in stock in silver but would cost her extra to get this one as it has Bluetooth on it so my question is eight to ten weeks average waiting time or are they just trying to sell her the car they have in stock

8-10 weeks is a fairly average wait time for most factory orders. Likely to be worse at this time of year due to factory summer shutdowns.

No your mother in law is after ordering a specific car. The car is not available in this country in the stock currently here so has to come from the factory of the manufacturer in question.
This is a slightly longer time than I would think is normal, its usually closer to 5-6 weeks with anyone I know that has waited for a new car.

But no they ain't trying to do her over, just offering another car if she doesn't want to wait.

It sounds to me like they're just giving her another option.

FWIW, I wouldn't buy a black car myself - they show every mark, and they absorb lots of heat in the sunlight.

They want more money for a car in stock. No chance. Ask him for the full spec on the stock car and then make him an offer. I certainly wouldnt be giving him any extra, bluetooth or no bluetooth.

It's possible it may take 8-10 weeks, it's likely it will take a lot longer if she waits.

Order bank for MY13 cars is about to close. There will be a period where no orders are taken, then orders can be re-submitted but cars won't be in until September / October.

Happens with the Insignia around this time every year. Haven't ordered one for a couple of weeks (and took one from stock in a different colour to avoid this situation) but it would have been touch and go if it was a factory order as to whether it was built before or after Holidays.

Take the Bluetooth, It's only €363 but say you'll only pay €350.

I ordered a factory build Opel in mid Feb and it's only due into the garage this weekend. I'd take the stock car if she liked the colour tbh. I was told the old 8 week bit at the start too...

Opel Insignia is getting a facelift in September included revamped Ecoflex engines so if she is waiting 8-10 weeks she might as well wait and buy the facelifted model.

Its the same in our business as well, nobody carries the slower moving stock anymore, everything has to be ordered in now. Sometimes its days, sometimes its a week or so.

He wouldn't last long as a salesman if he started giving people reasons to delay making a purchase. The last thing you want is to send someone away and then see them change their minds and buy a different make or just decide to do nothing because it's so late in the year that they might as well wait and get a '141' plate.

In fairness, they'd have to close the factory until September if salesmen started telling customers about upcoming changes to models.

Caveat Emptor and all that.

Are you sure the car in-stock is the same and doesn't have any defects? I wouldn#t pay extra in a situation like this - does you mother in law even want Bluetooth?

No idea what official delivery charge is on an Opel. Say €750, or €609.76 ex. VAT (No VRT) would give a maximum of €20,230.90 exclusive of VAT and VRT to pay for an Insignia 1.4T 5dr SC with metallic, plus pack and bluetooth.

Should be some discount to come off that amount as well as there is a fair margin for dealers on the Insignia.

If you can find out exactly what model it is then you should be able to work out the ex. VAT ex. VRT figures from the info above.

This is all based on current (Model Year 13) Insignia's.

I'd say hold off for the facelift model and in the colour she wants myself. Sure it'll mean a few extra weeks, but at least she'll be happy rather than possibly regretting that she settled.

I think you need to speak to the dealer with her. Get your facts together and go in showing you know what the story is.

Trying to encourage her into a stock vehicle and then trying to charge for bluetooth? If there's a facelifted model coming in September they'll be giving stuff like bluetooth free in a couple of months to sell the older mark.

He's being a little sharp, so don't be afraid to be sharp back. I would have thought there's a deal to be done with a facelift coming soon. Shop around the Opel garages if you have to - they should have access to the same stock and it's a good opportunity to get a few free extras with "Sure I can just wait for a 141 plate / facelift model" as your bargaining chip. Dealers will be under pressure to sell 132 plates

there is no extra bonus on insignia at the minute because of the facelift model coming in.

if you go for the factory option I'd imagine you'll be waiting more like 14 weeks for it, never mind 8. that's how long it's taking at the minute for most factory orders with Opel.

Btw, Bluetooth is still a cost to the dealer. how exactly is he supposed to give it away for free?

He's not. He just makes it sound like he is, when in reality he's discounting on the price of the car - you know, to make a sale in this Quarter

Because maybe there is some more room for bargaining in the deal and because the buyer didn't want bluetooth and because he is now offering a car from stock in a colour that was not chosen. I wouldn't be paying for it anyway and it would be a complete deal breaker. Shop around I say.
