Would you go out with a man or woman with a kid?

A friend of mine broke up with someone recently, she dumped him because of some custody battle over a child she had going on, she had too much on her plate, or at least that was her excuse.
Personally it's a big turn off when I hear a girl has a kid and right away I have zero interest. I'm 32 now, I'd imagine it wouldn't be a big deal if I was middle aged, or had my own kids, but I would steer clear right now.
So yeah, experiences? Good? Bad? Discuss.

At this stage in my life it wouldn't bother me. I'm 36 and I have kids myself though so that probably makes a difference but I think once you get to my age its hard to meet anyone who is single and doesn't have a past. Granted it would be another challenge to deal with but I think if I met someone amazing I wouldn't let the fact he had kids put me off.

I went out with a girl before but left her because I was competing for time/attention too much with her kid.
Then I missed her. That was dumb but made sense at the time. I'd be careful not to make that mistake again.

I always thought it was a non-issue and that it would never be a turn-off. However, one night I was getting on really well with a girl. She was funny, good looking, etc etc and I was well in there. However, I got wind that she had 2 kids and in my half-drunk state, I knocked back my pint and ran.

Dunno if that makes me a bad person or not. Probably does.

Well, you are seeing the thought through to the end when you act that way I think. Do you want to have those kids in your life?

Think the headline should have been man or woman with KIDS.

very few have only one,its multiple nowadays.

Well, if you did date someone with a kid, you certainly shouldn't drag the little bastard with you to a pub!

I go out with a woman with 2 kids and it's not a problem for me.

    They are both mine though.

I married a girl who had a son from a previous relationship.

He was three when we first got together and he's eight today and everything is going fine.

Interference from the childs other parent is what would be on mind

    You sure!

The boy does have a passing resemblence to the milk man.

I think sometimes dealing with the ex is harder than dealing with the kids.

If I loved that person, sure. I'm not a big fan of kids but when you love someone, you compromise.

Wouldnt bother me in the slightest. Some men/women come with more 'baggage' than children

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,442 ✭✭✭✭Grayson

Probably not. Although i know a few girls with kids that I think are nice/funny etc and i might consider dating them, they're the exception. For the majority i wonder what baggage comes with them. maybe a possessive ex or a child that hates his mums boyfriends etc... there's so much potential hassle.

I joined a dating website a while back. and there's loads of women who post up photo's of their kids. So it's obvious that they're a package deal or that you'd be the interloper.
Although it's not as disturbing as when i see someones profile photos on a dating website with photos of them and their dog. and then a few photo's of the dog by itself.
