Will our results be going on the beermile.com website? If so, I'm also going to rethink my choice of beer.

Would put them up but seems as though a decent amount of people don't want video evidence and this is a requirement for the results to be registered at beermile.com- having said that I'm happy to go which ever way people want with this...

If you send the results in to them they will all go up on the site regardless of beer choice under the race results of the particular event. Beer choice only matters if you want to make the official top 1000 list. Anyone looking for sub 7 need video evidence.

This is a pretty good clip- its 1:42 800m an 3:36 1500m man Nick Symmonds running 5:19 in the beer mile. It shows how big a role the chugging plays in a good beer mile time as he loses tons of time here. Honestly though- I think he could be Josh Harris' biggest threat in terms of breaking the magical 5 min barrier.

Of all the beer mile videos out there this is the best IMO. I would highly recommend everyone watch this before competing. Invaluable advice.

Would this be a DQ as he didn't tip the can over his head??

    Damn cheats in our sport.

ah for F**k sake, right where did you get these? Tescos as Clum stated? I bought a box of corona last night. Looks like my taper is being put back another day!!!

I feel like a novice marathon runner who does a 20 mile run 4 days before the full marathon to make sure they can get through it :) This beer training is doing nothing for my manorexia

TRR, if you're still in Maynooth you should get some in Tesco there. They had 12 pack boxes last week. Not sure about 6 packs.

I grabbed these in Molloys, but they seem pretty common (so should be in Tescos). On a positive note, they're dirt cheap (6 bottles for €7.50 or something like that). I also grabbed one of these, to sip on while I'm waiting for you to finish ;)

Now, what the fnck am I going to do with 8 bottles of Coors Light? Just as well the young fella' is finishing his Leaving Cert shortly.

Interesting skulling technique there, he looks like he pours it down his throat at a steady pace, allowing the beer out & air in to the bottle.

looks like I'm going to have to change beers too now, can't have ye folk claiming that we only did the girls mile... Might go mental and get some 500m 7.9% beer just to be sure ;)

1 hour to FINAL time trial. 4 bottles in the freezer as we speak, will make sure they don't get too cold. Will be another indoor jogging on the spot job. Might wear the heart rate monitor to try and simulate my HR at "race" pace :)

A beer mile between the 3 of us... Half mile for meno and Myself and Digs did a relay - 1 beer / 400m p/p. We're on the 355 coronas - never let it be said!! Lucky we're moving house as we took it outside to the green tonight..! ;)

Meno is looking good for a sub 8... I need to practice beering!!

Here, what is the chica count on this?!

Currently warming down with a vino tinto :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,915 ✭✭✭✭menoscemo

Rocked up to digger and CL gaff after work (chez Claralager??:p) with a 6 pack of corona and 2 packets of Mega Meanies. Hung out for a while with digger before going for a 5 mile warm up jog. CL was racing the mile in trinity so we had to wait for her to come back before attempting the beer half mile. I left my corona in the window after advice to not have them to cool....CL came back at 8 and we stepped out for our planned session. I have to admit I was more nervous about this one than I was before the London Marathon.

    The Beer
As I said 355ml bottles of Corona Extra. I don't want anyone to use beer size as an excuse if I beat them. Similarly I want to be able to discount the result if someone finishes ahead of me using pussy beers 330ml bottles.

    The course
A roughly measured 400m out and back course at Chez Claralager. 200m downhill and a 180 degree turn before running 200m back up the hilll to transition. Not exactly ideal and it actually turns out that the course is 432m not 400m, so hopefully the run times will be quicker on a flat accurate track.

    Beer 1
No problems with the open and a smooth pour down the throat in 1 go. 18 seconds

    Run 1
Took the first half downhill very conservatively. Tried to burp but not much coming up, picked up the pace after the turnaround but the fact it was uphill made the going a bit tougher. 432m in 1:40 (6:16/mile)

    Beer 2
No problems with the open and pour. Had to make a decision at halfway whether to take a mini pause or go for the glory of another 1 drink bottle. I decided on the latter which was a mistake as I had to pull away with about a fifth of the bottle left to take a big breath . This probably cost me 3-4 seconds by trying to be the big man. 25 seconds

    Run 2
No problems in the running at all, a few burps but no nausea. Reached the turn and realised at halfway that I had half a chance of breaking 4 minutes (first time I looked at the watch- taking TRR's advise of running by feel) so pushed hard back up the hill to the finish. 432m 1:36 (6:12/mile)

    Conclusions
I am pretty sure that I would have broken 4 minutes comfortably on a flat course without a 180 turn at halfway, never mind the fact that tonight's course was significantly longer than 400m.
    I never felt sick
    I probably ran too conservatively.
Luke warm Corona 355ml bottles are excellent for the beer mile and I can't be accused of doing a pussy beer mile so that's a no brainer.

Given all the above I am going to have to put my balls on the block and predict a sub 8 on friday night :D.

    Garmin of tonight's activity: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/326958043

Maybe so. I think a while back I stated that I wouldn't be training for this but once I get into something, OCD takes over and I want to do the best I can. Even if it is a totally irresponsible event with no positive health outcomes :)

Ok it pains me to say this as I hate to make things easy for you but I've read ladies may be permitted to use smaller bottles etc. Even seen one site that said ladies drink 3 instead of 4 beers but still run 4 laps. Might be worth your while looking into this. The only reason I point this out is because even with you drinking 3 bottles I'll still hand you your ass to you on a plate :)

By the way she is only asking about the female count as she is mad for winning mickey mouse trophies. There is only a trophy for the overall winner, right?

Meno, have you not read all the previous threads from today? If the beer is less than 4.8%, it's allowed for our purposes, but you are a pussy. Moose head at 354.84mls (thanks beepbeep) and 5% meets kingston(?) regulations

In conclusion you are a double pussy as you only ran half a mile on pussy beer :)

I realise I'm setting myself up for a massive fall on Friday but feck it :D

Coors Light is fast becoming the Tamagotchi of the Beer Mile world. I get the feeling the pub afterwards will have a separate table for Coors Light drinkers.

Yup, looks like everyone is stepping up! Looking like peer pressure will prevail! and I'll have to do the same. Can't have people with excuses afterwards! :)

ok so got the regulation moose head in this evening and decided on an indoor time trial. Did 90 second jog on the spots in between beers as this is my MP and I reckoned should be just about the right pace although I hope to negative split in second half, as usual  Shels called up as an independent advisor and to sample the moose head.

First beer went down in 18 seconds and that included some mechanical problems with the bottle opener, will need to find a better one as bottle caps are pretty sturdy. Wouldn't be a fan of the beer but definitely better than the coors light ****e. Let a big burp and nearly puked. This was a worry. Eased on the food at dinner but was starving around eight so had some peanuts (AVOUD PEANUTS ON FRIDAY, i'll say no more). Beer 2 was grand 30 seconds and off I went again, beer 3, 37 seconds and I was in trouble. I was a little sick in my mouth, ****ing peanuts. Stopped after half way through beer 4 on 20 seconds. Reckoned I could have got it down in 60 seconds worse case scenario but really didn't want the risk of puking on my sitting room floor.

Happy enough with the moose head. I've sorted out my nutrition problems and am confident I'll get the 4 bottles down. The running part is a doddle so should be OK. 8.15 may be a bit of a stretch for me though. Sub 8.45 and I'll be happy.

See you all Friday and as always I love you guys :)

Josh Harris himself (praise be to allah) says that alcohol content is not important rather the volume is the important bit. If I had found that moosehead **** in costcutters I would have bought it. I am confident I can beat you whatever the beer; I have heard you are a beer swilling pussy.

Saw yourself and digger from bus. Was waving like an eegit. Yis picked the worst place for that training run. CL and digger are bone lazy. Stalking me cos im nearby and starting the beer mile training from their front door :) A decent hill and twisty turny. Theres a flat straight at the bottom of the estate. At least you didnt go by my house.

Ive reported your behaviour to the residents association. They take a pretty dim view of lads drinking chick beers :)

Will see how quick these go down later, This even could go very wrong for some people, a bad breath before a beer could cost you 30/40 seconds..
