Camping: Great experience. No hassle from anyone. Very friendly atmosphere. Everyone very helpful. If it's wet though, it can get very mucky in places. Camp close to the shops and stalls.

Arena: It's more like many arenas. The main stage is beautiful. Woodstock-esque you could say. Very chilled atmosphere at the main stage with nobody pushing and scrambling for places. The rest of the areas, you'll find out for yourself, but it's much the same vibes all round.

Crowd: As said, it's chilled out. Unless there's a massive change this year, you'll get along perfectly. Friend of mine was part of the security team last year. There was something like 45 of them in total for the whole festival because it's simply not a big issue. Be nice to others and you'll do grand.

Just don't treat it like muck. It's a beautiful festival in a beautiful setting.

That's what I wanna hear! Should be a great weekend.

What exactly happens on Friday? No live music right? Do most people arrive on Saturday then?

Friday its only the forest area that is opened, but there are numerous stages and going ons happening. Donal Dineen will probably be doing a set in the forest dance stage, there will be installations, stalls and various other stages and bars open in the forest.
Sat and Sun will have the Walled Garden and main stages open too with live music.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Was just having a look at the FAQs. Is it true that you can't bring spirits into the camp site?!?

So they say. An 18 can limit too. It could be that they want to be seen to encourage responsible drinking but in practice they may be far more lax.

Say it ain't so! What if I'm not a beer drinker? This is spiritsist.

Went down on the Friday last year just cos the weather forecast for Saturday was sh!te and wanted to get the tent up in the dry.

Had a lovely evening wandering around the forest and dancing to the sonic stylings of Donal Dineen under the moonlight...

Was a really chilled vibe as lots of people didn't show up until the Saturday.

This year though all the weekend tickets are 3 day (last year you had to buy Friday seperately), so I guess more people will show up Friday???

If yes, then maybe they'll have the Walled Garden area open and a few extra small DJ spaces... I would certainly recommend getting settled in on Friday if you can make it.

Really hoping Donal is on again this year - glad to see your comment, bodhrandude :)

Am unfamiliar with most of the acts on this year... anyone got any major recommendations to make, either on the DJ or live music front???

Already planning to catch Nico Jaar, F**k Buttons, MMoths - saw Nick Cave @ Primavera recently and he was on top form - I'd say a must watch even if you're not already familiar with his stuff - a real showman.

On the DJ side, am planning to download the new Jon Hopkins album and am listening to a George FitzGerald Essential Mix as I type...

Anyone got any key George F tracks to recommend I check out, or stuff from any of the other DJ acts?

    here's some GF tracks:
I Can Tell (By The Way You Move)
    Thinking of You
    Every Inch
    Needs You
    Child

Close Feat Scuba - Beam Me Up (George Fitzgerald Remix)
Jessie Ware -- No To Love (George FitzGerald remix)

    as for other recommendations,

James Murphy (formerly of LCD Soundsystem) - will probably play disco/funk/house: Boiler Room set

WIFE has just been added to the bill, really good downtempo electronica from Cork. signed to a very good label, TriAngle Records, who also have AlunaGeorge, How to Dress Well, Clams Casino, Holy Otherand a few more acts that are doing well lately. saw him live a few weeks back and it was very good: Bodies

Pantha Du Prince - quite good electronica/minimal techno, his 2 albums This Bliss and Black Noise are worth checking out
    Saturn Strobe
    Welt Am Draht

Michael Mayer - released one of the best minimal/experimental techno mix albums ever, "Immer". this set from last year is pretty good, love the last track in this: Boiler Room set

Haven't been to B&S before but we have taken kids to EP and wanted to try B&S this year also. We have camper and go to family campsite in EP as it allows campervans with a Family campervan ticket. B&S don't allow campers into family camping so just wondering if anyone has taken young children and what the campervan site is like.
    Ta!!

nice to see the Bahh band added, a local Galway band comprising of folk who spent some time in India learning the traditional instruments there. They combine the Indian ragas with bottle neck blues into a lovely transient hybrid, taylor made for the Body&Soul.

    Ta!!

Last year the campervan site was just across from familiy camping - seemed quiet enough.

With a campervan it is easy enough to move if you are not happy with your neighbours ;)

Haven't seen anyone mention Breton an a/v collective from SE London.Seen them in a low key acamdey gig last year was fairly subdued compared to some of the gigs they perform in France where they are quite popular.Well worth checking them out.

If you like old school reggae from the mid 1970s you cant go wrong with The Congo's, I hope they do a longer set than they did at EP in 2008.

I wonder when the day splits or timetable will be coming out, less than
a week to go till I'm down there.

Some guesses at the Midnight Circus... assumes people not playing in 2 countries on same day (e.g. James Murphy is definitely playing Croatia on the Saturday)

    Saturday:
    George FitzGerald
    RSAG
    Iron Curtis
    Ryan Vail

    Sunday:
    James Murphy (DFA)
    Pantha Du Prince
    Jon Hopkins
    Kate Boy

Right... time for Game of Thrones...

Never been to the festival before, assuming the Lions rugby math won't be shown on site, can anyone recommend somewhere close by I can drive to?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 358 ✭✭jimosterberg

Have to work Monday. Still debating whether to drive and not bother with beer Sunday or get the bus and have a few during the day. Anyone get the bus home Sunday night last time? Are there plenty of buses/no chance getting stuck down there because the bus is full?!

there will probably be a lot of angry campers at the gates next week

    MBfE7xS.jpg

so up to 18 cans on the first time you enter the campsite, no cans allowed in after that, ie. forget about getting more booze from the car after your first trip.

    no spirits allowed at all.

Just looked at it now myself and it says:

"24 cans of beer / lager / cider OR 1 litre of white or red wine (decanted into a plastic bottle - NO GLASS) OR 1/2 litre spirits (decanted into a plastic bottle - NO GLASS) Please note, searches will be undertaken upon entry to ensure this is complied with and any alcohol above this allocation will be confiscated You may only bring your alcohol allocation into the festival upon first entry at the wristband check If you leave the festival, upon re-admittance you will be searched again and any alcohol will be confiscated. STRICTLY NO GLASS BOTTLES."

i must have had the old version in my browser, refreshed it and i got the one you posted.

that isn't much better. if you don't drink beer, you can only bring in a litre of wine or 500ml of spirits

only being allowed bring in alcohol on your first visit is a joke too.
we usually bring enough drink/gear for the 1st night, as between carrying everything and the tents it's a lot of work.
usually then go out to the car on the 2nd morning and get clothes/food/drink for the next 2 days.

seems like a complete money-grabbing exercise to force you to have to buy alcohol inside.
