    Didn't you hear the "singing"??

trailer trash and hillbillies can escape their class and elevate to a better position in society because they happen to be born with a lighter shade of skin. The tone of some of these posts just seems like there is a 'once a knacker, always a knacker' mentality.

There is a certain malnourished, aggressive cast to their features born of a childhood eating mainly deep-fried foods that will always be detectable no matter how much we try to civilise them.

No, the issue is underage drinking, drugs, vandalism of the train, terrorising of the elderly & wasting garda time

Vandalism isn't on, but personally I have no problem with others drinking and as for "terrorising", I take this with a grain of salt as sometimes it's legitimate, but other times it's people simply not liking being in a carriage with a bunch of young people, or finding the carriages getting crowded when a bunch of them get on and being generally intimidated by youths despite absolutely no aggression being shown towards them. I know people like this, who think that crowds of teenagers hanging out in public and chatting is automatically "anti social behavior" even if they're not actually doing anything to hurt anyone.

Not saying this is you, OP, just saying that I do take claims like this with a grain of salt. Hanging out in a big group is not anti social behavior, no matter how much some people might neurotically object to it.

See this is exactly what I'm talking about. Are there honestly people who have a problem with this? I can't see any violence whatsoever in that video, it's just a bunch of kids enjoying the sun, and sure maybe having a couple of cans (like we ALL did at their age) but I see no aggression there, it all looks completely amicable.
If anyone objects to that, in my view they're the ones with the problem.

The "group" were underage, so, yes, you should have a problem with them drinking.

The quiet before the storm.. In general having that many teenagers in a small area off their heads does lead to violence!! It has happened time and time again so it is understanding why people would suspect the same to happen..

And? Doesn't mean it's lawful or acceptable. Blasé attitudes are part of the larger problem

I dunno if you've lived in Ireland before but most of the time people are referred to as "scumbags" or "knackers" based on their actions regardless of where they are from or their familial background. I knew lads who i would have considered to be scumbags who came from nice areas and middle class families.

It's completely different to racism in the USA

I have lived in Ireland and I had my own run-in with these young-ins. I was at my neighborhood Centra when a young mom came in with a baby in a stroller and another one, maybe 5, walking behind her. The mother went to the counter and began asking the man about directions while the child went back to the deli area. I caught her picking up pieces of candy and shoving them into her tiny little purse. Her mother saw me watching her and came back and grabbed the girl and left.

In another episode, a group of them were on the top level of a bus and they began playing their music loudly and singing to the music. I had my own headphones on so I didn't care initially, but the other passengers (this was the 128 from TCD to Clongriffin) got up and went downstairs. Not far from my stop, they began pounding on the windows and making themselves known. I turned around and glared. One guy told me to **** off, so when the bus stopped, I got up from my seat and went back to their direction. The girls grabbed the guys and the other guys got up and went downstairs and the mouthy one continued to talk his talk. I heard one of the girls tell him to shut up and that I was following them. I did follow them down the stairs and watched as they shuffled right out the bus.

The reason it happens time and again is because the ones who scrap get media attention, the ones who just sing and have the craic like in these videos generally don't. I took part in tons of these things as a teen (our group of mates were probably what you would describe as D4 heads but even so) and iirc the worst we ever did was rob a couple of traffic cones to use as iphone echo chambers for the music. Hardly the London Riots now is it?

    It's not lawful, you're right.
Acceptable? Well, that's up to each individual, but the world's still turning, and I haven't heard of any issues arising from teenagers drinking that affect other people to a serious extent.

It'd be great to live in an ideal, crime-free society, but nowhere like that actually exists. Underage drinking has existed forever and we've all managed to cope with it perfectly well. I don't see what's changed now.

Saw this great documentary about a similar situation, these bloody thugs harassing citizens. This other lad took law into his own hands when a mate of his was killed. Let me think of the name of it..ah yes, it was called Deathwish. Worth a look.

My issue is with a section of young people, who deem it acceptable to have running street battles with each other, who walk the streets of our community actively seeking violence and trouble, disrespect the very community that raises them, who without provocation, attack citizens, police, emergency services. Not only do they deem it acceptable, they know full well that no consequence will follow them once they commit such acts.

Its not like there is some political revolt or stand they are trying to achieve, they do it for the complete wantonness of it, maybe the monks a thousand years ago said that of their youth because they feared some kind of revolutionary change, I don't know, neither do you. And anyways,
looking for written records of what 'monks a thousand years ago' said is irrelevant, those same monks thought the earth was flat. We need to deal with what is going on in recent history and today, my parents never seen this type of behaviour, neither did my grandparents, neither did I.

    Total bollocks, tbh.

Don't be ridiculous with extreme examples which very rarely happen!
It'd be lovely if teenagers didn't drink, but realistically there's only so much we can do to stop them doing it, and most underage drinkers don't cause any trouble.

What do you want the police to do, end all crime? The original poster even said the police did a good job. What do you actually want to be done?

You should have seen that area at 5:15pm, just after the above vid, when there was a running battle with at least a 100 involved. Then there was the robbing of shops earlier in the day and week by dozens. Or there was the asian family who had bottles thrown at them, terrified kids and parents in the playground, the stabbings, someone getting their back slashed, cracked open heads, multiple arrests, random assaults, the lorry load of rubbish, shops closing their doors and having bouncers... and so on.

I object to all that. Problem???

Again today there was the Gardaí removing troublemakers only an hour ago.

Are they singing "we come from Ballymun" or something in that video?

Can we set up passport control around Ballymun and require all feral youth to apply for visas before being allowed to leave the area?

Ah, yes of course that's absolutely disgraceful and should 100% definitely be clamped down upon, hard. No question about that.
Just the two videos posted in this thread show absolutely none of that, which led me to believe that some of the people posting here are just intimidated by crowds. I've seen that so many times and it just irks me, apparently being young and in a big group is a problem to some people even if you're not being the slightest bit aggressive - we've all seen the threads right here on this forum ;)

Those 2 videos are only brief snapshots and are misleading when compared to the almost 10 hours of crap we had to put up with yesterday.
