On Annagh hill in Wicklow looking north. Sadly the hill is denuded of forestry in recent years but the view is still worth the climb.

Lived across the road for a while near the Gap, many a pleasant run up there listening to the footy at the weekends.

With it being so nice this evening I decided to take the camera along with me while doing a few laps of Kilkenny Castle Park. Of course the sun decided to hide for some when I whipped out the camera! A nice run on the grass and trail all the same.

They're the Sugar Loaves, Great and Little. Could see them out the window from the house my mother grew up in in Shankill....

My wife fails to understand why I would drive for an hour to do a 2 hour run, and then drive an hour back.
I on the other hand know exactly why, I'm still smiling and I feel really good after a glorious morning running.
The purple loop was too short so I ran it twice :)

This has been my run for the last few mornings. Up at 5am since I've been here with the time difference, but it means I get a run in by 7 and then off to work. I'm hoping to get out to some more hilly trails if the weather picks up.

Sammamish River (and raining in Seattle ? How original!)

    8879542787_dd0ed4dd90_b.jpg

The trail starts off nice and civilsed, with asphalt paths. The further you get into the park, it turns to gravel and then to this:

    The across a swampy area

    8879542647_3d6c16ba86_b.jpg

And comes to a dead end at Lake Sammamish

So the weather finally got better and on my last night here, I was able to go to Cougar Mountain State Park, about 30 minutes drive from where I am staying. This is one of the parks that Scott Jurek mentions in his book where he spends a lot of time training. I didn't see him so I can't confirm that.
They have a really wonderful system of sate parks over here. You have to buy a Discover pass in order to park at the trailhead and this is what funds the upkeep of the parks. I ran around for about 90 minutes, getting lost and basically sh1tting myself as there are signs up around the carpark about wild bears and cougars and warning people not to use the trails alone . Anyway, the trails themselves are great. You could easily spend several hours running and not have to run the same trail twice.

Reminds me of my run in the hills above California, where I came across this critter on the trail. Of course being an innocent Irish lad and having read the signs at the entrance warning of rattlesnakes, I had no idea if it was the most venomous critter in the states or a harmless grass snake.

Probably no harm having a picture of the snake, just in case it did manage to bite me.

I ran 'em all, except for the last one, which I took in 2000 (and wasn't running back then).

Yep, the third one is Yosemite.

Yep, the Great Karoo, looking south, towards Mossel Bay/the Southern Ocean.

The trail in Utah, is called The Shafer Trail and is scarier than any roller-coaster I've ever been on!

Good stuff Krusty, love that whole area of Utah, Moab in particular- some stunning scenery. I have a pic I took around there that turned out to be the spot Forrest Gump stopped running in the film.
Very underrated part of the States IMO. Love to go back and run some trails, the last time I was there I wouldn't run for a bus:o.

    I went to Mallow today...
I know, it's not exactly exotic, but hey. :P
I was admiring this view running downhill
    mallowview.jpg
when I forgot I was in fact running downhill off-road and ended up doing roll-overs down the hill, into a gorse bush. :o
It's a nice looping / figure 8 run of about 3km, handy for banging out some runs when time is short.

And only a few minutes outside of the town.

DMW coming down from Cruagh to Massey's. What a beautiful section of the run, especially on a sunny day and especially after the pretty uninspriring run through Cruagh forest itself.

It was Kerry for me this morning, more specifically The Kerry Way at silly of clock.
Left Torc Car Park at 06:30 and ran (walked :o) to Galways Bridge and on to Black Valley Church and back.
I was never on that part of the trail before and it is stunning, felt like proper trail running, grinning ear to ear and I was just getting back to the car as most normal people were just beginning their Saturday exercise.
A pint of Lee Strand milk hit the spot afterwards.
Easily the hardest but most enjoyable 20 miles I've ran so far.
More of that over the next while I think.
    Pictures don't even come close:

Too early for me too, but that was the only way the pass would be signed (especially with a 4 day old baby at home  and a 2 and 4 yr old as well )
I also wanted to get out and back before the sun got too hot, even coming back across the old road it was dead air.
Still, a smashing run, well worth the early start, next up (after portumna) Black valley to Glenbeigh :D

So, am I the only one with a working camera lately.

Recce 2 of the Kerry way took place in glorious sunshine in Killarney, unfortunately we were nowhere near Killarney
so we ran in low cloud and pissing rain, until it cleared on the way back:
We did an out and back for 35km with 1200+ mtr of climbing :D
Leg 2 Black Valley to Glencar
    xwvs.jpg
Really technical leg bursting rock strewn climbs and slippy descents were the order of the (long slow) day
    But the views were great.

Whenever I'm down home in Cork I always try and get out on the Scilly loop in Kinsale if I can, Its a short one, about 3km but very picturesque so I don't mind doing it a few times!

Took these pics a few weeks back during the heatwave and have been meaning to put them up since.

The loop has an upper road and a lower road, with a hill in between! I start off on the lower road by the Man Friday pub and head towards the harbour.

    9185052125_dd8b7fbc8e.jpg

Then I follow the lower road along until the walk begins and continues out towards Summercove.

    9185052087_15a92c32d9.jpg

    9187848058_7d13377212.jpg

Above you can see the start of the walk and Charles Fort on the far right of the pic. Next you pass a wooded area and then past a house with the mouth of the harbour in view

    9185045607_06488f4e24.jpg

Next the hill starts and is a steep climb for about 200 metres...

    9187842968_a26feb84fc.jpg

You then reach the upper road where you can go right to head to summercove and Charles Fort or left and loop back to the starting point. On the upper road there is a fantastic overview of the whole town and the harbour.

    9185054435_e6ac2cf9b4.jpg

Charles Fort to the left of the harbour and the smaller James Fort to the headland on the right above. Finally the overview of the town....
