The Journal.ie themselves say it's unmoderated, but it's been alleged on the comments of many articles that stuff disappears. (That's enough on that: I don't want to get an O/T ban on this thread!)

When did After Hours turn into the "Look what I just found on YouTube" forum?

I thought CVPL was for all that stuff?

Jesus christ, do you ever stop whinging about AH?

Just because an OP contains a video, doesnt mean a discussion cant stem from it, and thats the point of a discussion forum, right?

    From the charter;

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=63152622&postcount=21

It's a bugbear of mine too, people just post a link or a video and nothing else, or ask for opinions on something without giving their own.

Ah i know its in the charter, but a mod usually just asks the op to add something and then let it run on.
    eg:http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=84712483&postcount=17
I dont get why that guy above couldnt just report it to a mod instead or galloping into feedback to whinge about it.

A feedback thread in After Hours is for giving feedback about threads in After Hours, not simply for attacking another poster.

If you have an issue with my posts, attack the posts, or, y'know, you could always take some of your own criticism-

Except half the time it's not even a new video. The OP is usually just using it as a means to reinforce a viewpoint they already have.

    A moratorium on dole threads?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,954 ✭✭✭✭Larianne

I read After Hours less and less these days. :( Not entirely sure why. Less banter between posters perhaps, posters getting easily offended, the same serious threads about politics, religion, unemployment and sex offenders.
After Hours is meant to be like having a conversation down the pub with your mates - I don't see it like that anymore. (No, I'm not one for serious discussions tbh).
Not really sure what constructive feedback I can give. Maybe let silly/light-hearted threads run for longer, give more on thread warnings and less locking of threads.
Also, for posters who read/post in the forum - maybe lighten up a bit? It's meant to be a bit of fun in here!

I love AH, It is full of witty and articulate people. Some things I wouldn't necessarily agree with I'd be the same as everyone else.

Not a day goes by and I don't laugh my arse off at some of the stuff posted here. Never forget the mods of AH are posters too, it should never be a case of us and them. We are us.

We should all be making this place the best place it can be. Cos we make it for ourselves.

If you look at all the legendary threads most, if not all, are light-hearted threads.

I don't mind the serious threads, god knows I've made an ass of myself in most of them, but AH should be more about the offbeat threads.

Essentially AH should be less about whether or not Catholic Teachers are dole leachers and more about finding out how to stop your housemate from killing you.

The two often blend into one.

Yeah, that gets on my tits too. It's happened a few times over the last few days. I've no problem with videos being posted, but if it's done just for the sake of posting a video and nothing else then it belongs in CVPL. I mean what discussion, other than the usual crap is to be had from a video of a lad been knocked unconscious, or of a load of kids jumping into a river in Dublin?

These things always end up going in the same direction, with some people calling for the people in the videos to be 'sterilised' and then a monotonous war of words between 'the liberal PC brigade' and 'the right wing nutters'. I wouldn't even call it discussion... it's just the same old soundbites been trotted out by the same old people.

Threads started by a non Irish national on forced sterilisation of large swathes of the native Irish population are allowed to run freely but discussing remittance figures produced by the world bank are frowned upon as they 'may incite hatred'. Square that circle.

Any chance of a bit of consistency, no?

People who post "I don't care", "And?", "So?" to a discussion re something worthwhile (as opposed to some celeb thing) deserve a cyber-slap, e.g. someone doing so on the thread re riots in Turkey. Petty and attention-seeking.

Sometimes brief posts like that are valid imo.

I've used "And?" and seen it used on a number of occasions in serious threads to point out that someone is making an appeal to consequences or some other obvious fallacy.

It is blunt and often condescending but that doesn't make it a worthless post.

How else do you think people find old threads that get bumped up?

Sorry, I should clarify: I mean just when someone posts about a topic/issue and those comments I mentioned are posted in response - for no reason other than to look oh-so-blasé... especially the "I don't care" one.

I'm disgusted at the lack of Modding on the Cat hunter thread. Twice I've reported posters advocating violence towards cats and I've had no response. It really is appalling that people can get away with that kind of BS.

More modding or less modding. What is acceptable and what isn't.

The bulk of the comments were obviously tongue in cheek. At the end of the day this is not animals and pet issues.

If the comments were about people there wouldn't be as much uproar.

It wasn't about people, it was about cats and idiots suggesting blasting a cat with bleach or castrating it with bricks or generally abusing the animal is neither funny or an excuse to do nothing because it isn't posted in the Animal forum. Crock of crap mods, crock of crap. It would have been better if ye just fessed up that ye were all out enjoying the sun and couldn't be arsed to mod yesterday:P

see youre an example of people who probably shouldnt be in AH, everything else is fair game, but the moment someone attacks one of your personal sacred cows [or er cats] then you scream "thats not fair " ect. apply the same logic to when people joke about cats or whatever, to everything else you laugh at/let it go as a joke
