    We want your feedback!

What do you like about After Hours?
    What can we improve on?
How can we make After Hours a better place for everyone?

We'd like you to have your say.

If something is bothering you, please suggest how we can improve it rather than just use it as a thread to complain.
Please make your feedback as constructive as possible, providing examples where available.

Normal forum rules will of course apply, please be civil, personal abuse will not be tolerated.

NB: This is not the place to appeal your bans or infractions.

All feedback is welcome and will be taken on board :)

What is the point in banning certain words like **** but allowing members to write fuck?

Let a thread die itself, locking threads is gay

    That's about it really tbh.

I like it's communal feel and how noone ever argues.

You can improve on the moderators.... by firing LizT and Whoopsadaisydoodles.... :pac:

You can make it a better place for everyone by making me the malevolent dictator.

I generally love After Hours, I think its the cream of the crop on boards tbh.

A place to have a laugh, joke, or a serious discussion, it all more or less fits in here perfectly.

I do however hate the 'wannabe facekickers', as in folk who think they'll become a legend of the boards by creating stupid threads to 'go down in history' as a legendary troll or such.

I think, in an effort to combat both that, and spambots etc, a minimum post count should be mandatory before one can post in AH.

Destroy it. Destroy it before it becomes too big.

EDIT: Also, automatically delete the first two posts of every new thread. They're always unfunny, to the point of pain.

Regardless of any issues regarding access to AH, it's worth pointing out that spambots are not a particularly significant problem in this forum.

The swear filter is a site wide feature. Some threads are unsuitable and sometimes need to be killed.

    Let a thread die itself

Yeah, this, less locking of threads please. Who cares if it's a crap thread, it'll drop off the front page no time if it's really so boring.

Thanked for the swear filter bit. If it's site wide, fair enough I suppose.. but even then, the T&Cs do say nobody under 13 is allowed. At 13 I was cursing like a sailor and would have had enough cop on to evade any swear filters anyway, as lots of people do.

    No please dont do this.
The forum has standards, just because they arent as 'high' as others, doesnt mean any thread should be left open.

As for "it'll drop off the front page in no time if it's really so boring", thats crap.
Look how long that god-awful 'My news' thread lasted. :p

(Also can someone please add the missing 'i' into the eurovision thread title!)

Seeing as Dr.Bollocko told me yesterday to take my "moaning" to feedback I might as well post here.

I think some of the modding decisions and infractions being handed out have been quite soft, especially in when it comes to discussing the females or female issues. Some infractions seem to bee pandering to the overly sensitive when compared to other non infracted comments.

It's not that I overly enjoy the harshly infracted comments but I don't think AH would be as enjoyable if people have to tippy toe around.

I reckon the modding is about as lenient as it can be for a forum with this many users and no specific topic.

No way, every thread would be filled with people posting memes and thinking they are hilarious, it would kill discusions, go to the cool vids pics and links forum for that.

But some of the infractions handed out yesterday in the Angelina Jolie thread were over the top and I'm not the only one with that opinion. Dr. Bollocko seemed to be on a white knight crusade.

If you do that, you just increase the amount of spam and rubbish posts in other Forums. It increases the sitewide volume of nonsense posts as people will post any rubbish just to get their count up to the required level.

The Mods usually deal with those trolls promptly, and there aren't a huge volume of 'one post trolls' anyway.

A site ban for anyone who finds and doesn't open a safe within 24 hours of starting a thread on it.

Unemployment increased 1% after the last safe thread :p

A thumbs down button. When your thanked count drops below -50 you get an automatic ban. Might sort out a few time wasters.

Banning of all religious talk in AH would be a start. Can't get a page into a thread without a mention of the church.

    Agreed.

Abortion threads is another that I'd like to see the end of.

•Turn the ****ing Swear Filter off!
    •Stop closing so many threads.
•Allow imbedded pictures that are relevant.
    •Tumb down button.
•Anonymous "I think this guys trolling" button. 10 clicks on same post equals automatic mod review.

Dedicated threads for them, I don't have a problem with. It's when it's in the middle of a thread, someone dragging in the church or openly mocking theists, it gets very irritating.

"Thinly veiled" should be added to the swear filter.

If I get an infraction for saying something and then someone else comes along and says the same thing but nothing happens to them, then where's the consistency of that?

I'd like that selective modding sorted and for it to be more consistent.

Thinly veiled is long gone and there was a poll to get rid of it. Thing is if you keep giving into this thinking that people can get rid of anything they don't like then the list will never end because we don't all have the same sense of humour.

Everything dies out naturally, three fiddy was more annoying imo, but it died down a lot with no hassle, same as thinly veild.

Drawing more attention to it like wanting to get it banned will only spur people on to use it more.

Well give an opinion on the religious or politics forum. After all if someone starts a thread about something in Dublin it's usually swiftly moved straight to the Dublin forum.

Grammar Nazism is not allowed. When you have 20 or so posts pointing out a mistype, it really is thread spoiling. Maybe a report and we can adjust the title.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 11,139 Mod ✭✭✭✭Mr. Manager

Ban threads on the dole or have a dole forum. Just for the dole. Nothing else.

Ban posters who say stuff such as "three fiddy", "blast with...", "thinly veiled...", "your ma". Don't warn, just ban. Waste of reading space.

Keep threads open and let them run their course unless something is said that will put Boards in a spot of bother.

That would make AH unique. The last couple of times I tried giving Feedback, not in AH, have a look at what happened.

The reality is mods do not want feedback and will not take it on board - they will use every stratagem available to them to discourage it and attempt to silence and discourage the poster. Have a look at what is happening in general Feedback.

    Second most of this.

Perhaps not so much as a minimum post count to post in AH but rather a minimum post count before one can start a new thread. Might make it a little easier to spot those who simply sign up to troll. There are quite a few current threads started by very new regs that simply seem to court controversy or seek attention.

Maybe stick some of the bigger issues in to some sort of mega-thread

The amount of threads started an hour after the topic has already been discussed is another.

I'd also argue that far to many threads are derailed, they start off discussing x but end up talking about y.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭trickymicky

ban every single person who brings politics into certain discussions when there not needed and completely off topic. really pisses me off!! apart from that its all good :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,299 ✭✭✭✭The Backwards Man

Can I also suggest changing the threadtitle? You're much less likely to get any serious feedback on this thread if the title itself is, for want of a better word, ropey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,080 ✭✭✭✭Micky Dolenz

    Done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,215 ✭✭✭harney

Be a little stricter on the..."There's a forum for that folks"... button. It would be one way of reducing some of the irritating threads as people might put a little more though, and a lot less trolling into what they are typing if they are move into the appropriate forums.
