I feel that way and I think that most ppl on computer courses do also.
Poeple on network and admin courses could get the most out of that. Since we will be the ones that use it most in the industry.
Cant speek for anyone else but I recon that there is a few at min that would use it and take advantage of this. Yes ok there would be ppl abusing it but thats what admins are for. If a soc had those facilities there would be admins and thats what they would look out for. Anyone caught messin gets their acc closed. its not that complicated

1st off wtf is wrong with u? do u know sjones???
2nd he is ****ing right. as has been explained why it is usefull I am not going to bother but ur a programer anyways and so u prob dont see the advantages of these kinda things because u prob will not need them for any work you would be doing (and i said prob so dont start).
3rd its academic anyways because if NetSoc get running that will prob be one of its goals.

the point has been made but I just want to reiterate it.

I doubt its hypothetical, but u'd need to ask Ivor to know that.

This conversation is going no where. There is no point argueing with each other about this and that.
Compsoc was started about 4 years ago and as games are not prohibited by the college the lads used compsoc to play them behind closed doors where nobody was watching. It does not matter who was here the longest or who knows more about what, I think the most important thing as ciaran mentoned is the lack of funds. The union have given a ps2 but without games its not great is it. Nobody is going to give the society money by the looks of things so maybe fund raising might be in order.
I won't be here next year but I have a few suggestions if ye dont mind:
    1. The fee for compsoc is €1 as is joining most socities but if all the members payed a bit extra, say a €10, things such as portable storage devices of ear phones could be purchased.
    2. Just about everybody uses compsoc for games and in my opinion the majority rules. If people want to do other things in there let them but the majority of people have to come first.
    3. The college is not going to do any upgrades because the students request them, as ciaran said he approached computer services about things and got shot down, therefore you will have to make do with what ye have. Removable hard drives are no good as the computers in the lab don't support them (no removable bay), how about external media conected via usb for storage as it seems more feasable.
    4. ssh out and such things are not a compsoc matter, if the college banned them they must have their reasons and I doubt they will go back on them.
    5. As the machines in 307 are out of date, maybe next years elected people could get it moved to another lab, with new computers such as that business one. There is a lab in the business bloack that has 1.5 ghz PC that take removable hard drives and is far enough from everbody so that noise would not be a factor except for maybe the odd night class in the next room.
    6. As is always suggested, leagues and compititions should be started. At the start of the year when college pressures are not as bad. maybe even inter college competitions and these could be used for raising the funds by having entry fees.
    7. People should be able to prove here on boards why they should be elected to the positions they are running for and give a list of things they intend to do (things that are possible).
    8. A picture of me should be ericted in the copmsoc room and everybody should bow as they pass it and say a prayer of worship.
    9. Charles should be placed in charge
    10. Snowball should stop being so touchy and shut up

depends on what ppl want. as a COmputer society we use computers and things like ssh and linux boxes are on some ppl's ajenda. I wil prob be academic anyways because of NetSoc.

Not going to happen. I already asked and was told to go and **** my self. and CompSoc has to happen in the LRC because the science block, buisness block and the rest are not run my COmputer Services. They tent to help to fix them but acording to them its never going to happen, CompSoc has to be in the LRC.
