Reports that we may have bid 1.7 million for Amido Balde, he talks a good game. My question is how come pudders didn't know about this? Methinks pudders is a cod.

Balde is the striker.....I said 3 signings......look above. One of the others hasn't been reported in the press yet, the other has widely.

Rogne is gone. Turned down new contract offer again. Poor show given his injuries but he was offered new deal on same wages but only 2 year extension and wanted longer.

Look, I gave a bit of info. I'm not bothered if you lads think I'm a chancer.

Brentford paying £250k for friendly. A nice little earner for the club but a couple of premiership footballers have decided against Celtic for testimonials because at last the club are being paid market value (or at least near it) for friendlies.

Again, your telling people things that abit of googling does and trying to pass it off as insider information, lol

Sure we know Celtic are looking for a striker, especially if Hooper goes, and with Miku and Lassad probably not staying, Celtic will probably be looking to sign a couple of strikers. "I have info that Celtic are looking for a striker" he says:pac:, you should really be charging a premium for that kind of "info" pudders, don't be giving it away so freely:D.

"That will be the same for all the players. If the deal is right for the club and makes good business sense then we will consider that.

"There have been no real concrete offers on the table since the end of the season for anybody yet. There is speculation, but nothing concrete.

"You don't want to see your best players go, but everyone has a selling point and we're no different to anyone else."

I dont think anyone is surprised by Neil Lennon's comments today, inside track or not...

These comments and the ones from players and the manager after the cup final talking about hoping to keep Forster & Hooper with little mention of Wanyama certainly make it look like the club and Wanyama have decided he will leave. Wanyama has all the qualities to be a top player and to continue playing the SPL isn't going to help him IMO.

Hopefully we'll get a good fee for him and as I said earlier in the season, selling players on to big clubs in stronger leagues can help us when it comes to attracting decent young players. If these guys see that a few years playing for us in the Champions League etc can bring them to the attention of top clubs we can target some real talent especially from outside of Europe, improve them as players and sell them for a tidy profit.

Lennon was asked about Wanyama in the interview aswell. British Media seem more interested in reporting on English players, surprise surprise!

Wanyama said he wants to stay at Celtic next season a while ago, that doesnt sell papers.

Wanyama is the one that will fetch the biggest transfer fee if he goes, so my sources tell me.

He did say that but I'd still be shocked if he is playing for us next year, we've still decent options in the middle if Wanyama leaves so I think Celtic are happy to let him go if there's a decent offer. Hardly the first player to play along with the press when if comes to transfers.

Ledley has one year left he's more likely to be sold than Wanyama at this moment in time. Wanyama has a list of suitors that are happy to wait until Celtic want to sell him tbh & Scott Brown is now likely to miss some of Celtic's UCL qualifiers. Our options in central midfield can go from strong to weak very quickly if certain scenarios play out.

    EDIT

"We have already made him an offer - he has knocked that back, but negotiations will be ongoing.

"We really saw the best of him towards the end of the season. He looks physically in the best shape he has been in.

"He was such a pivotal player for us towards the end of the season, and his cup final performance was absolutely fantastic.

"The opportunity is there for him to go and make a good career for himself. He is very important to me."

    Lawwell and his lowballing!

I think every player rejects his 1st offer these days! :D

2 things, firstly, in that article on the previous page about the Liverpool v Celtic game in Dublin in August, it says that Celtic are "pulling out" of their SPL fixture that weekend in order to play against Pool. What do they mean by that? That it's been postponed? Funny way to put it if that's the case.

Secondly, heard Neil Lennon's interview on Today Fm today and he seemed kind of keen on bringing Kevin Doyle to Glasgow. Would be a good move for Doyle instead of playing League One surely? Chance of Champions League.

Yea, SPL clubs have the option to postpone their 2nd SPL fixture. Celtic done this last season for the Real Madrid match.

Kevin Doyle is not good enough to be a 1st team regular, a la Hooper, at Celtic. Unless the wages are low (unlikely) then it would be a bad buy for Celtic.

All SPL clubs have the option to postpone a league game to play a friendly game, Celtic are doing this for the Liverpool game and have done this each season since the rule was added. Nothing unusual about it aside from how the article worded it.

Don't want to see Doyle signed

I hope you're wrong on Ledley, I'd have thought we had a good chance of resigning him and I'd prefer to keep him over Wanyama.

Poor from Celtic, unless they are acting the bollix signing Stokes should have been a formality

They're breaking Stokesy's balls. No harm, he's talented but needs to apply himself to make the most of his talent.

If we sell Wanyama this summer for some of the fees reported in the press, do ya think getting Ledley, even Stokes, to renew his contract becomes easier or harder? Celtic wont be encouraging bids even if its the time to maximise a transfer fee for Wanyama. I doubt Celtic want to lose Ledley on a free transfer either.

A demonstration of ambition for other players to see, so they will commit to their futures to the club to see is required and progression through the qualifiers for more lucrative matches is a far higher priority than flogging Wanyama this summer, I dont see it happening unless we get into stupid money territory. There hasnt even been a bid for him yet.

Ledley, like Stokes, has expressed his desire to stay at Celtic and Lawwell has a reputation for driving a hard bargain. Again, I'm not worried that Stokes didnt jump at the 1st offer made by the club, player wants to stay, manager wants him to stay. Just a matter of time really.

We've being waiting for that since Seville!

Edit:Yes it probably makes it a little harder to keep players but the board will sell them before they pay big wages

The board isn't going to make any bold statements in regards wages or transfer fees.

Didnt say that at all but they will hold onto Wanyama until 1 year remaining than flog him for a slightly inflated fee. That makes a statement about ambition aswell

I think they made a reasonable statement of intent when rejecting bids for Hooper in January. They're threading a line. If Celtic can make it to the CL Group Stages every season for the next 5 years and get to a point where they don't have to pre-qualify, then they can develop a truly competitive European side. Wanyama in particular will not go cheap. I reckon it could take up to £18 to £20 million for Celtic to part with him.

Interestingly, I searched Ticketmaster the other day, found the event but the tickets were not yet on sale. This morning, I search for the even and get:
Sorry, but this event no longer exists in our database.

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11677/8757811/Transfer-News-Aston-Villa-defender-Richard-Dunne-an-option-for-Celtic
"We have made no formal or informal movements as yet," said Lennon in the Daily Record.

"Richard has had injury problems and hasn't played for a long time so I don't know what kind of condition he is in.

"And the way we have been signing players over the years, he would fall out of that category, but he is a player I have known a long time and have always liked.

"We have also signed guys like Daniel Majstorovic before and it is always good to have one or two experienced players in."

I have alot of reservations about Dunnes' fitness, his attitude and his wage demands. I rather Lennon focus on developing youth prospects that giving over the hill players one last hurrah.

    EDIT

    http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/spl/4955568/Hoops-eye-moves-for-Rich-n-Russell.html
“We like Russell as a player and always have done. We are monitoring the situation at the minute.”

Wouldnt mind getting Russell, decent player. Think its been said that we will match the offer thats accepted by DUTD and look to trump whoever wants to sign him. Lawwell isnt arsed sending a million faxes to Thompson!

It depends on Dunne's ability to regain full fitness, they'll obviously put him through a medical and any deal that would be done would insist on his ability to prove his fitness. If he's not crocked, Celtic could get a couple of seasons out of him where his experience at international level could come in handy in the Europe. Dunne has his money made, he would only be playing on if he wanted to achieve something more at the end of his career. Paul McGrath went on - and was still a very useful player - a lot longer than anyone expected, maybe Dunne can do the same. He'd be worth considering.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,919 ✭✭✭RoryMac

I've gotta agree with Dempsey, I'd have serious reservations about Dunne on fitness and the amount of money he would cost us. He has missed a lot of football recently and at his age it would be hard to regain his sharpness and his form.

I definitely think we should move for Russell, not the finished article but great potential. Managed correctly he could be a very good player for us.

Paul McGrath was an athlete with an incredible natural fitness to the point where he could do minimal training despite his alcoholism. You're fooling yourself if you think Dunne is in the same boat as he struggled with his fitness for years.

I rather see Findlay be promoted from the u20's than see Richard Dunne signed

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,805 ✭✭✭Lennonist

Dunne had fitness issues and disciplinary issues early in his career which he overcame. Up 'til his latest injury he looked fit and committed, his performance in Moscow was outstanding and not that long ago - 15 months maybe? He's been crocked since the Euro's which is a long time to be out, so maybe he's finished. He's worth considering in my view, depending on wages. If it's a last big pay day he's looking for he wont be coming to Celtic, he'd get better money in the MLS or somewhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,032 ✭✭✭Soups123

I think he'd do more than a job, other than this injury he has been relatively fit for a number of years, he did a great job at Villa and City before that.

He isnt going to come looking for ridiculous money and would be better at centre defense than anyone there already. It would be an excellent piece of business for Celtic

You should look closer at his time at Aston Villa, he has fitness and disciplinary issues still.

One outstanding performance 15 months ago doesnt merit signing him now and thats all he's got going for him. He's had a succession of injuries and the poor management of his groin injury at the Euros has cost him alot to the point that alot of suitors arent interested until he proves his fitness levels. The fact that we would have to gamble now rather than wait for him to proves himself speaks volumes for the risk involved. This is Craig Gordon-esque.

I could be wrong but I don't recall him having disciplinary issues in recent times at Villa? I remember he had disciplinary problems when Kevin Keegan was his manager at Man City early in his career.

He might be worth a gamble if Lennon feels he needs an older head around to add a bit of much needed experience to the set up. Celtic got badly caught out for cover v Juventus that time. Worth considering is all I'll say.
